Best VR I have ever experienced

After having owned a Vive, I can tell you that the Playstation VR is a better experience. Even though the Vive has incredible room-scale with hand controls that are accurate within millimeters, it is also very uncomfortable to wear. This discomfort breaks immersion. Believe me, I tried multiple ways to adjust the headset to make it more comfortable.
The PSVR feels like a baseball cap whereas the Vive feels like tight swimming goggles that might slip off if you tilt your head the wrong way.
The other advantage of the PSVR is that the high frame rate definitely makes a difference. The smoothness of animation is absolutely amazing.
Finally, and this is the most important thing for me, the PSVR games are polished. The vast majority of the games/experiences for the Vive feel like unfinished projects. In fact, a lot of them are titled "early access."
I don't mean to bash the Vive. It produced some amazing experiences and has enormous potential. But the PSVR produces highly developed games for a much lower price.
PSVR will have some challenges to get the tracking right, not just for the controllers but also for the headset. You will also struggle with occlusion where tracking is lost due to the lights being blocked from view. But if you look on Reddit, you will find a whole community that is solving these problems together.
I can't wait to see how Sony develops software and hardware refinements. I suspect that they are producing controllers that are specific to VR as we speak.
This system performed WAY beyond my expectations. I am very pleased with it.

Where do I begin? I have been researching vr systems for the past 5 or 6 months. I own the gear vr and was pleased with what it had to offer. I couldn't wait to see Playstation surpass the performance of what Samsung brought to the table. Much to my dismay, this wasn't the case. After unpacking what seemed like a thousand cables and finally getting it set up after a half hour, I didn't even have the chance to download the update required for the unit before the lenses fogged up. I can't enjoy a game when I'm wiping the lenses clear every 30 seconds. Sony needs to go back to the drawing board to make this a more practical product.

I first tried this at a Best Buy though an in-store demo opting to try out the Shark Dive demo. It was cool but it was very blurry which had me worried. However I knew some of that must have been from having the Sony rep putting the device on me and not allowing me to fully fine tune it since they are tying to get people though fast. I was going to pick this up some time next year possibly after getting a PS Pro. Starting last week the reviews starting coming out from press with review units and I got swept up in the hype and checked out my local store on the way home from school and was able to snag a unit without a pre-order on release day.
The product has a lot of cables and takes a little while to set up. The headset is of a nice build quality and is very comfortable resting on the forehead and having the strap come around the base of the skull. The google part can slide in and out to get the right focus for the user.
Good:
You get an amazing sense of presence. The aha moment for me was the the London Heist part of VR Worlds (the game that comes with the bundle). When you are in a van on the highway and you can open the door and look back and shoot at the cars behind you. There are points where you will attempt to reach out for something that isn't there. At one point you are sitting at a table and I went to put my elbows on the table.
A decent launch lineup that runs the gamut from little downloadable experiences to full games.
Bad:
Screen is only 1080p which creates a screen door effect. It is very noticeable when the screen is mostly a single color however, once you get sucking into the action you don't notice it.
Some games look bad. I would say try the demo that comes with the system before buying any of the more expensive games. Driveclub VR looks very bad, like PS2 level graphics. It seems to be more of an issue with taking a big budget AAA game and making it work in VR with the limited power of the PS4. The PS4 Pro should allow for better graphics.
So far despite the fact that this isn't a perfect product, I am having a blast with it. Just realize that you are getting in on a new thing in gaming and the technology will improve. If you have the cash to blow on this and don't mind buying a new version in a couple of years then go for it. While I see this being compatible with the PS5 whenever that comes out, I would bet there would be a new version with higher resolution. Also remember that the simpler games will look way cleaner and more involved games will have to sacrifice image quality to properly function in VR at the required frame rates.
I would say go find that friend of yours that has it and give it a try first if you are on the fence.

The Best Choice for VR

(TRIED AT PSX)
On top of being ridiculously comfortable and super attractive, PSVR is hands down the most refined and consistent VR experience out there. The technology is top notch, with a beautiful display, top notch positional tracking, and a lightning fast 120hz refresh rate. However, the real value comes from the fact that this headset is plug and play, making it super easy for people who have never tried VR to get started and feel comfortable. You've really got to try VR before you judge it, and I'd say that PSVR is the best product to get started.

So the low star reviews have either not tried it or just mocking it because it's Playstation and they are probably upset that Xbox does not have anything like this. But let's put that to the side. What you have is VR. The Helmet is light weight and unlock other VR units, can be adjusted if you have glasses. Yes it does require the PS Camera for tracking hence the blue lights on the front of the VR helmet. Not every game will require the PS Move controllers. Some will allow the Dual Shock 4 controller (hence the blue light on the controller) or the new PS gun with a built a ps move type controller built in.
Instead of mocking the device, let's actually get a sense of what is going on. Playstation is bringing VR to the masses. With 50 vr games out buy the end of the year. Until Sony announces more bundles, there actually maybe a shortage as Amazon sold out in 8 seconds.
Try this link to find a demo unit near youL

No one said the unit was going to be cheap, for for $399 for the unit it self or the $499 bundle that comes with the vr unit, camera, 2 ps move controllers and vr worlds is an actually good deal come to think about it. And remember, every PS4 game can be played on the VR in Cinema mode.

This device is absolutely incredible. It is going to change gaming for sure. The headset is very comfortable, sturdy, and very well made. While the resolution isn't as good as its competitors, once you're in the action, none of that matters. There is no screen door effect unless you're actively looking for it. For 500 bucks, this is a steal, you will not regret it.

I had the luxury of trying the PS VR during the demo days this past weekend 07/08-07/10 at the Bloomingdale, IL BEST BUY and I can tell you this, it's awesome, especially for a price tag of $399.99. The demo I chose to play was EVE Valkyrie because I wanted a space experience and oh boy did I get one. No latency, I didn't get sick so the refresh rate isn't in question..... The only thing I could see that was a negative, there was a slight screen door effect, and I'm not sure if that has something to do with the screen technology but it was noticeable a bit but it DID NOT take anything away from the experience.
I almost sold my PS VR Bundle pre-order a few weeks back because I just had this feeling it was not going to be as good as the competition and am I glad I didn't do that, they employee at Best Buy was even asking if I wanted to sell my pre-order to him, lol, I said NOPE. The demo solidified my decision to keep it, it's the real deal, yeah it may not be as powerful as the Oculus RIFT or the VIVE but at least one thing is for sure, it's for GAMING.

To start off I will say I was hooked the moment I tried it. Its pretty affordable compared to the other VR headsets, its also pretty comfortable. It truly feels as if you're in that world. The immersion is so intense that you could be smoking a cigar in the game and you'd think you're smelling an actual cigar (due your mind playing tricks on you). Its also great for playing regular games, especially if someone else wants to use the TV.
It does have many cables that you have to plug in (about 4 hdmi cables) which starts to become a mess of cables. The quality is lower than the Oculus or the Vive, however you are getting what you pay for.
Overall it is definitely worth it. If you have a ps4 then definitely get one. You wont regret it.

Great VR for the Players, But Some Shortcomings

PlayStation VR, it is the least expensive of the VR headsets out there right now and it does a great job for what it does, but with some caveats. First of all, this is like bringing the big screen to your home in a compact form. Sure, the screen is amazing, however it is a 1080p screen divided down the middle. You're not getting full 1080p delivered to each eye. It still looks good though, and this is what helped bring the price down for this headset. The response time is perfect, the comfort of wearing it is perfect. It's perfectly balanced and it shows in the wear of it. The games out now like Batman VR and PlayStation Worlds are quite amazing. The level of immersion is unreal! The only downside with this headset I feel is price. It's still very expensive clocking in at the price of a new console or more when it's an accessory for the PS4 console. If you can look past that, it's a well built and classy looking piece of hardware. It's functional and you can even use it to watch your regular content without disrupting others. It's a worthy purchase, just be aware you're spending premium money on an accessory for a console that costs less.

Great deal for VR

PlayStation VR has proven to be a very solid headset so far at several game oriented events. This bundle includes everything you need to enjoy VR right out of the box. The headset, by itself, retails for $399 with tax, so for only $100 more you are getting two controllers (about $50), a camera ($60) and a game (will likely retail from $40-$60), so this bundle is quite a deal for anyone that does not already own the required peripherals. I do not think this bundle will disappoint.

For those like myself that wanted to see what all the hype was about without getting one of those $700 setups not including the PC this is a great entry level device. I have astigmatism and over 10 years ago tried out the very first VR only to have headaches and a lack of seeing the depth while using the device. Well, now I have to say I have no headaches from using this device and can see the 3D without an issue. This is.. out of the 3, the most comfortable from everything I read. And I understand why, it's where the Sony VR puts it's pressure, on your forehead instead of the crown of your nose. Now I also wear glasses and it works awesome. Now the bad, maybe it's the games I am playing but the issue is that distance items become a complete blur and that breaks some of the immersion. But I now know I can handle the VR without headaches and with glasses ect. And the unit is fun.. I found myself often wanting to push the buttons in the VR world with my hands. But I will now save up for the second Gen device for PC when that hopefully arrives. I don't know how much I am allowed to type so I am cutting this short. I recommend Eve Valkyrie it's allot of fun! Playstation VR Worlds was a bit lackluster and could have been allot better at a higher resolution. The pixalation there really broke allot of the immersion. I would still say this is a great first step to VR before you go spending 1k or more on a PC/VR setup.

I was fortunate enough to handle the actual finished product at Sony's GDC 2016 PS VR event. My review is based on that experience and I will attempt to share my experience.
PlayStation VR isn't a wild reimagining of the VR headset, but it's one of the most attractive efforts that i've seen so far...
The head-mounted display or "HMD" screams minimalism with a tag team of black and white matte plastic finishes. This completed version sported seven blue lights that the PlayStation Eye picks up to track your location and head movement. It's a pretty appealing and accurate head-tracking solution.
The design of the PlayStation VR's strap looks good and thankfully, also felt extremely comfortable.
Inside the headset is a 5.7-inch OLED screen with 1920 x RGB x 1080 resolution, which comes out to about to 960 x 1080 for each eye. The PlayStation VR offers a 100-degree field of view and a 120Hz refresh rate.
Thanks to the event at GDC 2016 I can now say that I've tried full-on games. The experiences varied in levity from casual, playroom escapades to hyper-intense combat and even a horror game for added measure. It did seem that the more intense the gameplay the more likely I was to start feeling nauseated. I experienced similar nausea effects with 3D initially. After sometime of use, I no longer felt the motion sickness effect and I'm hoping PS4 VR yields similar results eventually.
The games I played:
Morpheus Castle: Morpheus Castle is a smack-'em-up title that served to demonstrate how Move can be used so brilliantly with PlayStation VR. By pressing the back triggers you'll curl your fingers into a fist. Extend them rapidly and you'll throw a punch. Your target? A hanging dummy. Complete the task and you're rewarded with your first weapon, a sword. This was a smooth, seamless experience and gave me hope that the Star Wars game we've always dreamed of – the one where lightsaber duels are not only plausible, but an enjoyable part of the game – are within arm's reach.
RIGS: Mechanized Combat League: The best way to describe RIGS: Mechanized Combat League is by labeling it as a Titanfall-esque shooter imbued with the adrenaline and setting of a professional football game. During a brief demo, two friends and I took our RIGs into the arena to test the mettle of opponents in a three-on-three battle royale that had us blasting each other to bits, picking up the pieces and then jumping through a hoop in the middle of the map to put points on the board. It was fast-paced and highly detailed – probably a bit more than the PlayStation VR could handle. A limited field of view made it hard to see everything happening in my peripherals, and the fast-paced nature just about resulted in me tossing my cookies.
Those were the only full games I was able to experience at the show.
Sony has said to expect over 50 games to become available sometime this year for the system, some of which will be developed in-house, although many will come from indie and third-party studios.
Sony has also claimed there are over 200 developers with developer's kits who are actively working on titles to supplement the first 50 games, and that gamers could expect to see a good mix of genres when the unit ships.
Finally, and this is important, the PlayStation VR requires a PlayStation Camera to function, I highly recommend picking up this bundle. Some games also require a set of PlayStation Move controllers.
My conclusion:
For now it's an excellent, if not absolutely perfect, experience that will be fun to show off to friends or play with yourself, in half-hour increments. It might not be the best for long term use, but that's a decision we can visit again when the PlayStation VR comes out in October.

Good enough to be completely emersive. I was very impressed with the Eve: Valkyrie demo. The hardware was impressive and even running at 60 fps felt smooth. The graphical limitations are from the console, not the headset meaning that the PS4K will allow for better graphics and framerates. If I had a complaint it would be the field of view being a tad small but not too bad. A lot of potential if and when true full fledged VR games are developed.

Just wow. PS VR delivers. I tried a demo at a local Best Buy, was blown away, then bought one. I can't compare it to Rift or Vive since I haven't seen or tried those, but...PS VR is legit.
I agree with the other reviews - the resolution isn't super sharp, probably comparable to 480-720 depending on the game. Don't let that sway you. It doesn't take away one bit from the amazing VR experience.
Each game on the demo disc was incredibly unique and impressive, and really showcased the potential of this technology. It's the next generation in gaming and more.
I encourage gaming enthusiasts to look for a PS VR demo near you and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
