A good alternative to your phone

It does what it needs to, but requires updates pretty often. Also I recommend getting a friction mount as it's much easier to use this way.

The GPS just switched off in the middle of navigation causing us to get lost - and we've had it less than a month. We've connected it to our computer to try and resolve the issues but it only stays on for a few seconds, the screen looks odd, then it turns off. Complete rubbish - will be returning to the store.

I apologize for the experience and I am sorry to read that it was not clear to you that a smartphone and data connection is required in order to receive TomTom Traffic. The packaging of the GO states that it is "smartphone connected'. I'm sorry it was not immediately clear that this meant you had to use your phone's data connection to receive traffic.
We have chosen to make live traffic the standard for our new devices, as we believe the difference in coverage and accuracy is substantial, when compared to the RDS-TMC solution on some of the older models.

The screen is a bit difficult to see and I like the graphics of the old Garmin better but the new ones have the same problem as the TomTom.

I love to travel and have gotten plenty of use out of it already. Its locations are dead on and it also gives you the options to avoid tolls, unpaved roads, and it also gives you different options of the route you would like to take. My favorite feature to this device is when it separates the lanes on the highway (i.e. It will tell you how many lanes are available for your exit coming up). The TomTom Go 69 is one of the greatest investments for travelers yet.
