A laptop that’s good enough for a pro
|Posted .Intro: After searching for a perfect laptop this fell into my lap. This may just have everything I want or need. In the box: HP Spectre x360 laptop, Power adaptor, Case, Instructions and Manual. Appearance: The HP Spectre x360 convertible has a beautiful design. It is a piece of art because it is well designed with quality in mind. I know it can easily out do or go toe to toe with any of the top competitors. Setup: The Spectre x360 comes charged so you can just power it on and start your setup. It is about 10 minutes for a complete setup. Performance: The Spectre x360 is a 8th generation Intel Core i7 processor and 256GB drive. This is a powerful laptop and it already have the windows 10 installed. I can do anything that I want from quick web browsing to working on a project. I continue finding new features as I dig in. It transform from a laptop to a tablet now how cool is that. This is touchscreen so the possibilities continues with this 13.3 Spectre. The touchscreen is smudge resistant because after using it my screen is still looking great. Everything seems easy to locate and if you are having trouble finding something you can always ask Cortana. Price: It might feel like it’s expensive but you get what you pay for in this case. If you spend the same amount with something equivalent in price you will not get the features and power that this have. Most of the competitors are still not using i7 processor. Features to like: Facial log on, laptop to tablet, Bang & Olufsen speakers, Backlit keyboard. Closing: I love this laptop and I cannot say anything negative about it. Everyone have their own expectations but I will suggest giving the Spectre x360 convertible a test drive. I do not think you will take it back or have any remorse after knowing how good it is. This feels good while handling it and right underneath your fingertips you have a powerful HP x360 that help you get just about anything done.

Best 2-in-1 on the market
|Posted .I recently received the HP Spectre x360 laptop. Below are my thoughts. Design: This has to be the coolest looking 2-in-1 laptops on the market. The silver finish and sharp edges makes this a slick polished looking computer. The hinge design on the display works pretty well but I do wish it was a littler stiffer to not allow as much movement. Another thing I like is how thin the computer is. It measures 12.03 x 8.58 x 0.54-inches making it the thinnest and lightest 2-in-1 computers on the market. Display: The 13.3-inch full HD display is bright and colorful and looks fantastic. I really like the thin bezels around the screen. Performance: The Core i7 processor and 8gb of ram makes the computer fly. Multitasking and watching movies was a breeze. The computer comes with an intel HD graphics card that gives you decent gaming capabilities. It's definitely not ideal for full time gaming. Battery life has been fantastic on this computer. I'm averaging about 8 hours using the computer during the day for work related activities. Audio: I love the quad speaker setup by Bang & Olufsen. It delivers crisp and clear sound. Keyboard/touchpad: Keyboard is well designed and works very well. The touchpad is a very good size but I noticed that there was not a left or right mouse buttons. That is a huge bummer. Overall this is a great computer with an excellent design, screen, and performance.

Very nice laptop
|Posted .Overall this is a decent little computer. The size is good if you're looking for something small to carry with you or hold comfortably while you work. The screen folds smoothly and rotates automatically when you change positions. It seems stable when positioned in an inverted V as well. However, when you pick it up in the traditional position the screen is prone to folding back which makes me worry about how well the screen will retain the ability to stand up straight over time. The fan is quiet and unobtrusive. The keyboard will light up, but isn't excessively bright, which is helpful when I'm working in the dark with someone trying to sleep. I miss having a number pad, but there isn't room and to include it the keys would have to be uncomfortably small. As it is, the keys are a good size. The mouse pad has a good feel and is responsive, but has no buttons which makes scrolling difficult without using the touch screen. I find it awkward to go between the two. Having directional arrows helps. The touch screen is a nice feature for when you are using it in an inverted V, or as a tablet. It's very reflective (as you would expect of a tablet), so there's a glare on it at all times. I like the metallic feel. It gives it the impression that you are holding something of substantial quality despite its comfortable size and weight. The software is very familiar to me as I have another computer with Windows 10. It does include some bloatware; mostly games. The sound isn't great. It is workable, but has a tinny quality, even with the bass turned all the way up. I would recommend headphones for anyone doing a lot of listening, or anyone who needs good quality sound.

Nice
||Posted .Specs were great fit for me. battery life seems fine. It is light weight and quite thin. Very compact. I seems to run a bit hot when kept on lap. Fan is not loud most of the time. When I took it out of the box it had several scratches on. The top is not very sturdy and even though it is matte it is a finger print magnet. Overall it is a very nice laptop for a daily user.

Fast, light, and beautiful
|Posted .This is my review of the HP Spectre 360 late-2017 version laptop computer, model # 13-ae011dx. . I have owned the 2015 version of the HP Spectre for 2 & ½ years and I must say that it is a superb machine and the newest model is even better. I also own an HP desktop, the Elite 700-414. I have been extremely happy with HP’s computer products, especially the Spectre series. I have not had to contact HP for any reason and that tells me that their products are built well; they are reliable; they are low-maintenance; and they will work for me until I am ready to get a new one. I have the Intel i7 chip in the 2015 version and 8 gigs of ram. The new model that I own has the latest generation of the Intel i7 chip, and it also has 8 gigs of ram. Even though it has the equivalent hardware it runs much faster. Also, because it does not generate as much heat, the fan does not need to run as often so it conserves power, runs quieter and the battery life is much longer. In the older model Spectre the fan kicks on a lot more and can be a little disturbing at times. I fell in love when I saw the ads for the Spectre back in 2015. It is a sleek, thin powerhouse. The newest Spectre is even lighter and more compact. By taking the active screen almost clear out to the edge of the lid they cut the length and width down by a full 1/4 inch the whole way around, making it smaller and lighter as well as thinner, without sacrificing screen real estate. The Spectre is a 360 machine, meaning that the lid can swivel all the way around, disengaging the keyboard and essentially turning it into a tablet, making it very convenient in certain situations. I like to stand it up like a tent to watch videos and listen to Spotify. The Bang and Olufson speakers are on the bottom of the body, but when you have the Spectre standing in tent fashion or fully open in tablet mode, they are facing you. The sound is good no matter what position it is in in the newest Spectre. They sounded a little like they were inside a can in the older model, but not in the newest version. Both Spectre models I own have a 1080P HD touch screen and that is perfectly adequate for my needs, but you have the option to get 4K because the Spectre is customizable. The HD screen is crisp and clear in both models, each using Intel’s integrated graphics 520 and 620 respectfully. The 2015 Spectre has a card reader that fits a standard XD card, 3 USB-2.0 ports and a charging port. The charging cord on the older Spectre is what I would call a standard setup. It consists of the wall cord and then the adaptor with a charging cord that goes to the charging port on the left side of the laptop. It is sort of bulky like most laptop chargers, but together the cords are about 6 ft. long. The new Spectre uses a type-C thunderbolt to charge and it is fast. The charge cords are about 8 ft. long overall. At the wall plug end it is set up similar to the Mac Pro. You can use one cord directly or you can change the plug setup and use both cords to extend to the full 8 ft. From 15% power it only took 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach 100% power on the new Spectre! The older Spectre takes about 3 hours. Plus, there is another type-C Thunderbolt port for data or media. Not only is Thunderbolt faster, but you can insert the connector in any direction. There is no shape that must match up like with the standard micro USB, or USB 2.0, or USB 3.0. Also on the back-left side behind the start button there is a USB 2.0 port. More towards the front on the left side is a micro card reader that is great for folks with an Android phone that use a card, or someone who films and shoots pictures with a drone. I almost forgot, this Spectre (2017) also came with a pen and it works great with the new Windows 10 fall upgrade. The newest HP Spectre 360, model # 13-ae011dx is overall a faster, quieter, smaller machine than the 2015 version. Again, I thought the 2015 Spectre is light, but the new Spectre is a lot lighter, no heavier than the 12.9 iPad. I own a Surface Pro 2, a Surface Pro 3, a Surface Book, a Mac Pro (2015), and the HP 700-414 desktop. Out of all of them I use the Spectre as my travel computer. It holds a charge much longer than my other laptops and is thinner and lighter as well, and it has a touch screen. Also, it has proven to be more dependable, and my newer model has been even more reliable than the older Spectre. If you consider that I have owned the HP desktop for 3 years, and the Spectre for 2&1\2 years and I have never had any issues with them, this testifies to the quality of the HP products. I highly recommend you consider the HP Spectre 360 if you are looking for a quality laptop that looks great too. If you cannot find a model that suits your needs, then customize one. (The Spectre is a higher-end machine so I cannot testify to what the quality of HP’s cheaper machines is.) I believe that you cannot go wrong with that decision in my opinion and you will be glad you made that choice now and 2 years from now too.

Fast, Powerful, and Fun 2-in-1 machine
|Posted .After the initial adjustment period, which Is there with any new laptop (new keyboard layout, etc.), I've come to absolutely love this HP Spectre x360. It is less storage than I'm used to, but as I looked at what I had stored on my old drive and what I actually needed I realized, for example, my photos/videos could stay on network storage, and a lot of apps I had installed I just never used. In the end, I loaded it up with everything I regularly use, and then some more, and only used up about 1/2 of the available storage, which leaves plenty of room for breathing. It feels like the smaller disk will force me to keep the disk 'clean' and not overload it with stuff I don't need, will cause me not to 'hoard' as it were. With the NVMe SSD, this computer boots up very fast, and runs real smooth. Even things like windows system software upgrades (which there has already been one or two major ones) go VERY fast, compared with my previous system which also had an SSD (though not NVMe) and an i7 (4 generations older). I'm of mixed opinion on the sound quality. For one, this laptop is thin, very thin-- so there is not much room for the speaker to generate sound. Given the space it has it generates decent sound, but compared to my last (much fatter) laptop the sound is a bit tinny. But it does get loud enough, and I noticed when I played back home movies on the laptop the sound wasn't that bad, but for music the sound quality was mediocre. When you flip this thing over into tablet mode, wow, it's incredible. I love reading online web-books (through a subscription I have with safaribooksonline) in portrait mode (tall) and it feels like I'm holding a giant e-reader. Also, I have a texture magazine subscription, and once again in portrait in tablet mode it is an incredible experience being able to read magazines at near original magazine size (in some cases, bigger than the original magazines ever were). The Pen is a pretty nifty feature. I tried it with the New York Times Crosswords app - not included - (let's ignore that I'm not good at them), and found that I could hand-write answers into the crosswords - it would recognize my handwriting and fill it into the puzzle as typed letters, which I thought was very cool. This actually could force me to work on my handwriting which I get very little practice with too as I can see where it misrecognizes poor handwriting. My one "complaint" about the pen, if there is one, is that there's no place in the laptop to store the pen, but my HP Spectre came with a storage/carry sleeve which had a place for the pen, and as long as I always have the sleeve with me (probably will) it shouldn't be a problem. If there's one negative to the sleeve, it doesn't accommodate the power plug like a traditional laptop bag might, however with the claimed battery life on this tablet that may be a non-issue for most daily use -- for extended travel I can just throw the charger in luggage. It's pretty cool that this charges with a USB-C charger, I never thought I'd see the day where the same kind of plug (not the same charge itself) goes into my cell phone and my notebook. The fingerprint sensor makes signing in easier (when it works, it may take some training or practice), but I wouldn't say it improves security - the reality is you always have the password/pin options you're not eliminating them, you're making another way in. Overall, Do I like it? Well, I just outright replaced my old notebook with this (it's been unplugged/turned off for 2 days) and went out and bought the three year care-pack (accidental damage protection) on this HP after only 2-3 days of using it, because frankly it's just that much better than what i was using.

Beauty and the brains
|Posted .I love this laptop. period :) Now, let's get into the details. Performance: With intel i7 8th Gen processor, 8 GB RAM and 256 GB NVMe SSD, this little guy is able to handle anything that you throw at it. Multi-tasking is a breeze on it. I am a software programmer and I am able to run my IDE and dev server along with 20 browser tabs with no issues at all. I don't think this is suitable for graphics heavy games though. I haven't really tested it in that mode though. Keyboard: Love it. The keys are big enough and have a nice mechanical keyboard feel to it. I really like the column towards the end which hosts home, page up/dn etc keys and the up-down-right-left keys at the right bottom corner. The touchpad is big enough and smart enough to not move the cursor when it is touched while typing. It is also smart enough to understand left and right clicks. Audio: It has a quad speaker setup and delivers optimal listening experience in all modes. Ports: It has 1 USB 3.1 type A, 2 USB-C with Thunderbolt 3 and power delivery, 1 SD card reader and 1 finger print reader. This should cover all your needs. Design: It has a very striking design and feels very precise. It has nice hard edges on all-aluminium body and the polished sides provide a great highlight accent to its smooth brushed metal finish. Display: 13.3 glossy full-HD display with super thin side bezels. It's bright and colorful. Everything else: It comes with a stylus. I haven't used it that much but it seems good. The battery life is good. It also has a web-cam and Windows Hello is able to recognize me in all kind of light settings. This is really neat as I dont have to enter my pin or password. I like how it converts into a big tablet and I am able to use it as a big eReader during my commutes. As it is light weight, I am able to hold it in one hand and read books in tablet mode while commuting in Subway. Bottomline: I am really impressed with this laptop. It has a gorgeous slim design, speedy intel i7 8th Gen CPU, fast SSD, quad-speaker setup, wide touchpad, clicky keyboard and bright display. It is ultra-light and portable. The only issue that I have had with it is the heat management. I think for some reason it gets hotter than usual when I am using it on my lap over a blanket.

Powerful laptop in a compact package
|Posted .After having some time to interact with this Spectre x360 which I am actually using to write this review, I am pretty satisfied and impressed with it as a laptop and the ease to transition to it from my wife's MacBook. I've been using IOS on the MacBook primarily and was concerned about changing over to Windows 10 OS but it has been an enjoyable journey. The Cortana windows assistant has also helped with making things easier. This HP came in a beautiful packaged box so I expected the device to be just as beautiful, it was. This is a very sleek, clean lined, and compact convertible laptop. It feels very nice but a bit fragile because it is so thin and tapered which is not really a drawback because that is one of the reasons I like it for its portability to be able carry it anywhere I go. The screen has very minimal vertical bezels on the screen and the common bezels horizontally to accommodate the web cam, mics, and to give a sturdy mount for the 360 hinges. The hinges seem to be sturdy enough to withstand the vigor of rotating the screen thru all of the modes (laptop, tent, display, and tablet). The concept and capability of the convertible laptop is nice but I don't see myself using this as a tablet. It does not feel comfortable to hold as a tablet as I am constantly pushing the buttons of the keyboard which are open to the back when in tablet mode. To watch movies in display mode or tent mode is nice but the sound from the speakers is directed away from you. Watching movies in laptop mode provides the best experience for both sound and picture. The speakers are really nice and the best I've experienced from a laptop. This HP comes with Bang & Olufsen sound system which provide a full sound with great volume with little to no distortion at the highest level. I'm listening to the Pandora app as I write this review and it sounds great. There is also a simplistic audio equalizer that you can use to make slight adjustments but I felt no need as it sounds good to me. It does not have that overwhelming tinny sound that is common from laptop computers. The video is full HD and the resolution is very pleasing to the eye. I watched Rogue One from the Netflix app and was very pleased with video and graphics performance. The on board fan and ventilation of this laptop keep the heat to a minimum and I can't even hear the fan operating when it is on. Very good for plane flights or road trips to have this laptop sitting on your lap without getting over heated. The keyboard is very satisfying in the way it feels when typing. The keys are a good size and spaced very well even though the overall size of keyboard seems a little tight but nothing to complain about. The backlight feature for they keys is a one push button on/off with no brightness adjustment. In certain lighting when the backlight is on it makes the keys difficult to see because of silver color of the keys and the led color of the lights, but if you know how to type well that will not be an issue if you are familiar with your keyboard. I continuously used the term laptop because that is what I see myself primarily using this for. I will most likely not use my wife's MacBook anymore since getting this and it will quickly become my favorite go to device for laptop duties and movie streaming on trips. This HP is very powerful and much quicker than I expected. On startup it takes seconds to power-up and be ready to sign on. It has fingerprint and facial recognition as a security sign-on feature which is somewhat accurate even-though not perfect. But it also offers a pin as a back-up in case of misreads. Everything I have done to try and bog down the cpu it has passed with flying colors. It works fast at loading and opening every app and web page while multi-tasking of streaming video or music. It also comes with a stylus which I do not use much as I am still getting accustomed to writing on a screen. The screen is touch enabled which is really nice when I am being lazy and do not want to use the touch pad which is wide and very nice. The things that I find to picky about are just because I'm transitioning from and a MacBook to this windows HP and it is just an adjustment period that I am sure I will overcome. I can say that I definitely prefer the HP Spectre over the MacBook for performance visually, speed, and in audio. It comes with 2 usb-c (thunderbolt) ports and a two length charging cable, 1 usb-a port, micro sd slot, and 3.5mm headphone jack. The battery life is very good although I do not know the exact hours that I've used this laptop. I charged it fully and have used it for 3 days streaming videos, music, web browsing, and a little word processing. I still have 23% battery life remaining on day three with intermittent use without charging. Overall the HP Spectre x360 is a power packed, beautiful, universal machine that will quickly become a favorite in your smart electronic device collection. We will see how it withstands the everyday use of the bump and grind. It does come with a leather-like notebook carry case that will help protect it. Definitely a worth while purchase.

Q: QuestionWhat is the difference between mobile processor and normal processor, please explain and why mobile processor used in laptops
Asked by Sridhar.
- A:Answer When processors run they generate heat. Lots of heat. Because mobile devices are considerably smaller than computers, the heat generated by a running mobile processor is often amplified and can seriously harm components, or even melt them. Therefore, the developers and designers of the devices limit, or throttle, the speed at which a mobile processor can run. This means that if a processor is getting hot, it will limit its speed, which equates to slower performance. Because of this throttling, the processor on many phones will actually run slower than the advertised speed. In fact, the advertised speed of mobile processors is normally the maximum. Compare this to most computer processors, where the advertised speed is usually the average running speed, and you begin to see why computers are more powerful. The second big difference is connected with performance. If you take a computer and compare it to a mobile device with the same speed of processor, the computer will usually be able to do more. This is because the processor is limited in what it can do by the other hardware components, like the RAM, Graphics Processing Unit, etc. Computers have more space, so they can fit more advanced components, and are consequently able to do more. That being said, processor and other mobile technology is advancing at a blistering pace and it is highly likely that mobile hardware will continue to increase in overall power, and eventually be able to compete more effectively with larger computers.

Q: QuestionWhat is the battery life?
Asked by Regasaurus.
- A:Answer During regular use (atom, sublime text, python, ruby, javascript, chrome with 50 tabs), I get a good 8 hours. I'm not sure what the battery would be like if I were streaming video for a full charge, but I have easily gone a whole day of regular use without charging. I just opened it from being asleep for 5 days from the previous charge and I still have about 80% battery. HP's site boasts 12 hours, and I'd say that's close enough to accurate for me. There were reports of terrible battery performance on a different model, but the 13-ae011dx has been great to me.
