worked for a few weeks and then died for no reason

I had a little trouble getting it to connect to my PC at first... this surprised me since bluetooth is a pretty well established protocol and most devices pair with minimal effort. in any case, once I got it working, it worked fine for a few weeks. then a few days ago I was attempting to get it working in Maple Story and couldn't. the controller itself was still working, Maple story simply didn't want to use it. the next morning, for some reason, the controller no longer worked. I google searched and attempted to find a way to fix it... it still said it was connected in bluetooth but when I turned it off or on it no longer made the disconnect or connect chime it normally makes... similar to connecting or disconnecting a USB device. In any case, I tried everything I could from the google searches I did and nothing worked. I found posts on forums and reddit from lots of people having this same issue! One of them was even a post of a support email response... I followed those instructions too and no luck. When I wrote up a support request of my own, I very specifically detailed all the steps I took to troubleshoot the issue, including using CC cleaner and uninstalling the steelseries engine with it and then cleaning up the registry. When I got a response from support, it was as if they didn't even bother reading what I submitted, as they asked me to do exactly what I told them I already did. in fact, the steps they asked me to run were a direct copy/paste of the same steps in the reddit post I had followed, same formatting and everything... it is precisely what I told them I did. So I, of course, responded that I already did all that, as per my original submission. the next day I receive another reply saying I need to RMA it... ok, fine, whatever... but wait... it demands that I show them my computers time and date when I submit a copy of the receipt? excuse me? talk about invasive... you do NOT need to see my system tray... and thus everything I am running, to validate a receipt that clearly has my purchase date on it. here is the exact verbage: We need to clearly see the current date on the taskbar of your OS. Please use a Windows or Mac computer for these screenshots because we cannot verify mobile screenshots at this time. this is completely invasive, unnecessary, and just plain stupid given how easy it would be to photoshop in whatever time/date I want. this will be the last steelseries product I purchase... partly because of the poor support, and partly because, from reading various posts, this has been an issue many people have had for a long time and apparently they can't be bothered to fix whatever is causing it.

What a wonderfully built controller placing the joysticks where they should be in my opinion. I bought this controller very excitingly after debating between it and the Xbox One controller for my surface. I made the wrong choice Positives: 1) Build quality is superior to my old Elite Controller 2) The software after upgrading isn’t anything special but does the trick. 3) The sensitivity is amazing. Cons: 1) Firmware was OUT OF DATE out of the box. Cool, I’ll just plug it in and update it right? No micro usb cable included so I had to track one down. You have to them unpair the device, re pair it and then restart and do the same procedure all over again. 2) Will it stay connected? Maybe if you’re lucky. Mine kept disconnecting from my Surfacebook 2 which has no other issues with Bluetooth. 3) The software is so so, the customization options remind me of my elite controller but with slightly different options. There could be huge strides made here. 4) No haptic feeedback...this is the finishing move for me to return it to Best Buy. I can buy a $10 cheap Xbox One controller and have haptic feedback, why can’t my high end gaming controller? I’ll give it another go on a newer version release if they include haptic and fix the sketchy connection issues. (Please note that I’m a Sytems Archtiect so my skill in IT is far superior to many, so the connection issues aren’t on the user here...trust me).

      Great controller

The best part of this controller is the dinput/xinput which is the standard that xbox controller uses meaning it's compatible with the vast majority of games that support xbox controllers out of the box. I am coming from dualshock 3 with scarlet crush driver and dualshock 4 with inputmapper or ds4windows but both controllers started having issues in less than a year so i am done with sony controllers. As for the xbox controller well i prefer the analog sticks together like the dualshocks and the required dongle was a deal breaker and I was not about to wait around for the xbox one s controllers with BT. Also I am using energizer 1500 mah recharchable betteries which I also purchased from best buy and works great with the controller so far. The software will not allow you to remap the buttons which I knew before hand and don't really care about but some readers need to know that. Right after I installed the software a critical firmware update popped up so it was the first thing i did. The website also has OSX drivers. I have not yet tested it with linux yet but i can only assume it will work atleast for basic function for emulators. If this controller survives atleast a couple of years with my long gaming sessions then I can finally stick with 1 brand but only time will tell. Also If you are looking for the software it's on the steelseries.com page click support then downloads.

Be understanding that everyone has different computer capabilities such as (fast, slow, old, new) hardware and software. It took my 2010 amd quad-core pc some time to process the drivers. I immediately opened the box with excitement without reading the instructions. It may require you to update the firmware...so....READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! After doing so, the controller was recognized by the computer. My computer is old and slow so it takes time for it to be recognized every time I turn on the controller, but I do not regret this purchase. I just need to update my computer! Handling the controller was initially awkward, but it grows on you, conforms well and becomes comfortable within several minutes. Some may not appreciate how the R/L toggle buttons because they are a bit flush with the R/L triggers buttons. Although the transition feel is a bit seamless, it is not difficult to become very familiar with the feeling. It's not not frustrating to use and will easily get used to operating.

The controller is hefty and solid, but not uncomfortable. It's very easy to switch between devices with, as I have it Bluetooth'd to a Nexus 9, Notetab 7 and a Galaxy s7. Unfortunately, in the games I've tried it on, I have either got unexpected performance or none at all on some of the buttons. The app will display X for an action, the X and maybe some other buttons won't work from one game to the next. (X is an example, could be A, Y, whatever) It's not the hardware, that's fine, the same button will work in another game..something on the software side. I understand the issue could be app side. As a consumer I was kind of hoping for a more complete solution right out of the box. So, if you're intending to use this for an android device, there are some apps on Playstore that can help, though they require a bit of know-how and understanding of a technical nature, with most requiring root to begin. I'd have given it 4 stars if steelseries had their own support application and 5 stars if it also worked more reliably with less configuration required.

Im p'd off $60.00 for a controller with documentation that only tells you how to turn on and pair , what the lights do? Thats it! The website support ask a question, is broken "submit a ticket". There is no phone number. Im using this for android, I want to customize the buttons but you cant. You can adjust the sensitivity on the sticks via a program. The program downloaded is .exe and doesnt open in Android. Great! Just great! What is the charging port for in the battery compartment? Im sure it is not to charge my device from the controller because you need 2 AA to turn the controller on so 2AA charging? I doubt that! There is no app "steelseries controller " or " steelseries" in the google play store for 'mapping'. Why is this worth $60.00 is beyond me. Does the program you have to use a PC to open, program the controller via USB cable? Where is the cable? Not worth it.

Android Flash Windows controller I've had for a few days now actually had to return the first one because it was glitching on the L1 and L2 buttons but the second one seems to work great on Modern Combat 5 haven't tried it yet on GTA or any other games but have found out there is a very small amount of software available to utilize this Bluetooth controller and the ones that do 90% of them are super basic one or two buttons only so that being said if you're looking for a familiar style controller to play Android games on do some research to make sure the games that you want to play are going to work with this and if they will then you're in luck because you can now go out to Your favorite Best Buy in Orvine Ca. and pick a steel case xl controller to utilize this awsome, hi-quality, well built, device to dominate your favorite Android games.

For $60 I was expecting a built in rechargable battery, fully functional vibration, and durability like a console controller. However, the battery it included is quite long lasting which is nice. It promised over 40 hours of battery life and so far it's been over 100 hours of casual gaming. The controller does not support vibration which is quite disappointing because I was expecting it to vibrate like other console controllers. The design is good for persons with big hands but after a week, the R2 button started to squeal whenever I press it. Overall if you are planning to buy this controller because of the compatibility in both Android and Window, there are other cheaper ones. For this price, it should be able to vibrate and have built in rechargable battery.
