Yes, as long as the controller is initially connected to your computer through the program that the instructions indicate to download.

That is what I purchased this for - steam games. And it worked fine. I had to do some controller mapping, but ultimately decided to go with an Xbox 1 controller. Works with the controller-enabled steam games I tried it on, including Fallout 4 and No Man's Sky.
