Does What It's Told to Do

Great Lens. Desperately wanted a wide angle lens for a trip I was going on but didn't want to break the bank, especially because I still use a rebel camera. After looking at many options including some Rokinon manual lenses, I settled on this. My only draw backs when purchasing was the design was nothing to write home about, and then the f4.5 aperture. True its not the best looking lens, but its bigger then the kit lens, and much larger than my 50mm 1.8, yet is as light as the prior. The reason why f4.5 stings is that it is tough to get a shallow depth of field, and get nice bokeh. However that isn't really the purpose of any wide angle lens, so as long you adjust the shutter and iso respectfully the f4.5 shouldn't be a problem. The field of view covered on this lens is amazing, if you haven't used a wide angle lens, I insist for you to atleast try. Image quality is great, really no complaints. I little vignetting wide open but atleast for me personally makes the image look a bit more dynamic.

Sweet wide angle lens

I had been pricing a wide angle lens for my Canon T2i and they were all in the $500-$600 range. When this lens was offered for $300, I jumped at the opportunity. It is a perfect match and also offers the auto-focus and image stabilizer features the same as my 18mm-55mm lens. What a great new offering from Canon at a great price at Best Buy.

Great glacier shots

Bought this lens for our Alaska vacation and am so glad. Awesome shots that require a wide angle and my wife could use this lens right out of the box. Great quality. Perfect addition to the 18-55 and 55-250 lens. Be happy to share the pix.

Love This Lens

I purchased this ultra wide angle lens for my job. I needed a lens that would give me great quality, wide angle shots for interior real estate shots. I am very happy with the lens. As always Canon provides top quality products that I depend on in my business.

Great for all levels

I purchased this lens specifically for real estate photography. I have used it on multiple sessions outside of real estate and found it to be a workhorse worthy of everyday carry.

Very affordable wide angle lens
Posted by: rayguy24 from: Los Angeles, CA on
I've had this lens for a week now and am confident to say that it is an absolutely great lens for what you are paying. Let me first start by saying that do not get this lens expecting the most durable, weather-resistant lens. It is not. It is made entirely of durable plastic, and plastic mount. So I definitely do not recommend it for landscape shooting inclement weather, but for nice weather (like Los Angeles all year round) or indoor photography, this is a great lens to consider. The focus ring doesn't have any stops, but I didn't really find it to be that big of an issue.
While this lens may be a bargain in price, it's no slouch with image quality and performance. While the F-stop only opens up to 4.5 at 18mm and 5.6 at 10mm, I didnt not find it to be an issue during most times of the day. For night shooting, it may be limited but a tripod and remote trigger/open shutter bulb mode should be your shooting method anyways. Having IS is really nice to have and definitely helps if you plan to use this as a walk-around lens. Lastly, the STM feature is amazing. The AF is really very silent.
Oh one last thing, this lens really really shines in taking video!

Great for landscape or group photos!
Posted by: Harmony from: on
I love to take landscape photos but my family often asks me to take photos of events and parties so I had been using a 50mm 1.4 lens for a while but had a hard time getting everyone in frame for group shots. I wanted a flexible lens that allowed me to take great landscape photos but also would be good for capturing group photos. This lens does both very well! It's also fantastic for night sky photos as well! It's very light weight and pretty quiet!

Great lens for a great price!

I just recently got into real estate photography. After a ton of research I decided to go with this lens. I couldn't have picked a better lens!! It performs just as good as, if not better than, the Canon EF 10-22mm for less than half the price. I've watched a lot of reviews comparing the two lenses and this one wins not only because of less chromatic aberration but also for its price. This lens is perfect for real estate photography because of its extremely wide angle. It can take a very small room and catch almost the entire room. My pictures look amazing thanks to this lens! On top of all of that, this lens also includes the STM focus system which allows you to record video and have the lens focus almost completely silent. There are only 2 negative things I can say about it. First, it's made of mostly plastic. It doesn't feel really cheap but it does feel less durable than a more expensive lens. This was probably one of the ways that Canon was able to keep the costs down. Secondly, it's not a very fast lens. It only does F/4.5 at best so it's not great in low light. I used a tripod for my darker shots so this was not an issue for me. I wouldn't recommend taking handheld photos in dark areas without a flash.
Relatively Low Price
Very wide angle
STM Focus Motor
Mostly plastic build
Only F/4.5 (Not great in low light)

Great Ultra Wide Angle Lens

This lens is great for capturing "more". I have used it for taking pictures of an entire room, family group shots, etc. In the example picture in this post, this is a tall sailing ship that we had a chance to cruise on in Norway. I was able to capture the entire ship from dockside. Highly recommend.
