Easy Setup, Avg functionality, Poor monitoring
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Here are my thoughts on the device. 5 Stars for Setup - can't get any easier than this. 5 Stars for complete wireless setup - absolutely no wires 3 Stars for wireless distance good reception, works well up to 50-60 feet, after that connection drops quickly so does video quality. 3 Stars for video quality, I would not call high-definition 1 Stars for field of view - states 130, but real world view is 90 two cameras barely cover 180 - see pictures 1 Stars for dependable recording - you must have a good internet connection that is up all the time - ONLY records to the internet, nothing local, if Internet is down, so is your monitoring. 0 Stars for other use - these cameras will only work if you have an arlo account, internet access, and the cameras connect to the base. 0 Stars for motion recording - motion recording only sets off when action crosses FOV, delay from motion to start of record, usaully equals activity has already moved out of FOV, or just get few of activity. 0 Stars for more than 5 cameras - you can only record to the cloud, more than 5 cameras you have to pay subscription. 0 Stars for monitoring - cannot actively monitor without running the batteries down very quickly. NO 4 camera constant monitoring, unless you want to spend $25 on batteries every 2 days. 0 Stars for simutaneous monitoring and recording - if you or someone else is viewing the camera feed live, it will not record any motion detection, the viewer would need to select record. 1 Stars for logging and viewing - takes about 2 minutes to get to live video feed. Far to slow to catch something in realtime 0 Stars for stated battery life - based on using the lowest video setting and very limited motion detection (5 mins per day)- no one ever would buy a HD camera only to reduce it the lowest settings. 4 Stars for Indoor Battery life, these perform well in a constant temprature. 0 Stars for Outdoor Battery perfomance indication, well below freezing tempratures, batteries will quickly report low or out. Must climb ladder, and re-seat batteries, to reset low battery warning. 2 Stars for Outdoor Battery life, iinstalled in Mar where temps -0 Batteries have lastest 1 month in a camera effected by pet traffic. 2nd camera seems to be holding up ok, 2 months. I have tried multiple WiFi Cameras, these work comparitively well, much easier to setup and use. After trying many WiFi cameras was going just bit the bullet and get a lorex, swan, or q-see system, then saw the Arlo. Wish I just went with my original choice of a wired system. This system is perfect for the NON-serious security monitoring. Not meant to replace a video recording system.

GREAT PRODUCT
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought these cameras for my vacation condo in Florida which doesn't require constant video recording like i have at my primary residence. These do a great job and allow me to check in while I'm away. Running wires in a condo would be a nightmare. These cameras are completely wireless, which is perfect for my needs. I like the fact that when i leave i can setup the cameras on their magnetic mounts inside the condo and when i am staying there i can remove them. Reduces the Creep factor (don't like being watched in my own home). I can't give you solid feedback on battery life yet i haven't had them long enough but initial impressions are very good. Issues-Recording on motion sometimes doesn't trigger fast enough. Eg. when i walk out of my elevator into the condo the system snaps a picture and emails to me along with starting video recording(10-60 seconds) and sometimes nothing is there. i am hoping this will be fixed with a software update . 8/10 times it works perfectly. Setup is super simple. Image Quality - 7.5/10

Great basic security camera setup
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Arlo Smart Home security system is a great option for those who don't want or can't set up a wired system. The options for outdoor use and wireless capabilities are the main reasons I opted for this system. Yes, that means some limitations such as quality (not as good as Nest) and a little bit of lag time between motion detection and recording, but those are issues I'm willing to accept given the low-cost and ease of setup. There are some bad reviews for Arlo, but one needs to research the capabilities of a system and its limitations before purchasing and becoming disappointed.

Easy setup
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After searching for a complete wireless home monitoring system I FINALLY came across the Arlo system online on their website. I had no idea that the system was sold in stores until I went to Best Buy in search of something else. I bought the 4 pack camera set that came with the hub. This was the easiest system I have ever set up. It took maybe 10 minutes to sync the 4 cameras. The hanging brackets are magnetic which makes hanging them and adjusting them as well. I have only had them around a month so I am not sure about the battery life yet. I have it set to send texts and emails on a set schedule when motion is detected in which it then automatically records 10 seconds. You can also go online or the app and view and take still shots. I can't tell you how much I love this system!!!

Simple, Great - what I was looking for.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These cameras, although they have no sound, we're extremely simple to set up, extremely easy to place ( and the magnetic mounting against any metal object is a great touch ), and work fantastically. Yep it's pretty good, the notifications are fast, and the video is very good quality. The fact that they are wireless, and only require changing batteries every six months is their main differentiator. This aspect alone makes them an excellent choice for someone looking to put a camera up (or cameras) without the hassle of wiring. If you can live without sound, this is the camera set up for you.

This surveillance camera is awesome and great.

Easy to Install
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very easy to install the delay for recording is a little to slow. Batteries are to expensive, I expect to pay 80.00 to 100.00 to keep the camera's up and running for a year.

Expensive, Unreliable & roblematic Customer upport
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Are you excited to have completely wire-free camera system? I was too, until of course I was spending $40-$50 every other month on new batteries. Since using about 2-3 sets of batteries I decided on buying some authentic rechargeable batteries (made for arlo cameras only). They were excellent and couldn't of been happier with my $90 purchase for 16 rechargeable batteries. Since using these cameras about 8 months I've discovered the motion detection works, sometimes too often but always too late. They won't even triggered when I'm standing directly in from of camera. So, after reading how they work, these cameras only detect new objects coming in to the screen from sides. Weird but seemed like a cheap software. But, my main concern is when checking these motion notifications or the live view via Arlo mobile app. Every single time I attempt to view these cameras in live view or check out the motion alerts is that the camera can't stay connected more than 5-8 seconds, as you can see for yourself in my photos. Not only do I seem to have connection issues with the app, the cameras are literally only 15-25 feet away from the base station. I just deal with the issues every day and try not to let it bother me, even after 2 or 3 attempts. No customer should need to worry, especially if there's someone lurking around the home. The worst thing to encounter would be connection failures if something were to happen and you missed it. Lately these Arlo cameras haves been OK since the new batteries, but the newest issue is that I've now been plagued with the pink camera issue. A well known issue from Arlo support blog. I just randomly got it and luckily I am still under 1 year warranty and they were able to send a replacement and told me that we waived shipping costs for your replacement, LOL. Wow, I'm feeling blessed up to this point. But wait there's more. After receiving the replacement camera fairly quickly from FedEx, I open the package and see multiple scratches and dents on the outer casing of my new replacement from Arlo. I thought for sure they would send a new camera, but I was 100% wrong. I'm simply upset to say the least and after doing plenty research on outdoor cameras, Arlo was definitely not the 1st or initial pick, but we decided to go with Arlo during a holiday deal for about $350 ish. Like the saying goes "cheap is expensive". But, actually Arlo pro products are simply outrageously priced. Now the saying doesn't make sense, or are big corporations again taking more advantage of the general population. Oh I forgot to add that when I opened a case regarding my pink camera, I didn't hear anything back for almost two weeks & then decided to check up and get the status. After calling in it was discovered someone had closed my case and the issue was somehow resolved. Man, good thing I got back to them before my 1 year manufacture warranty expired. Be careful and do your research. That means checking reviews on multiple websites, not just the websites Arlo pays people to submit reviews on. Overall, I'm now reluctant to return my new camera for a refurbished one. I guess I have no choice this time now that I'm in the hole for more than $400 with everything. But, I certainly have a choice next time when shopping for outdoor surveillance systems and I'll likely disregard any/all Arlo coupons or deals at this point. No more headache and I work too hard for my money to just spend it on same products year after year. I just want a camera to last me at least 3-5 years before having to upgrade. All the best to you folks. PS) Do not put a review unless you've taken the product home and used it for at least a few months. My god!

Q: QuestionHow dependable are, and how often do the batteries require re-charge or replacement. Is there a low battery indication transmitted in this event?Battery reliability..
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer I have 6 cameras. I bought them more than 1 month ago. All the batteries are still working. Some have faced intensive use (20 to 200+ videos a day) and are down to 1 battery bar, whilst others are still at 4 bars. For example, the one above my front door records only 4 to 16 videos daily of 30 secs each. It is still showing 4 bars. The one facing the garden is picking up the wind, clouds, sun, blowing grass, birds, and cats all day long. It has only 1 bar left. My advice is as follows: Lower the sensitivity from 100% to 70%. This means moths, birds and falling leaves are less likely to trigger a recording. Reduce the recording time to between 10 and 30 seconds. Turn on geo localisation so it does not record when you are present. Point the camera at places where movement would be unusual or infrequent. Don't point it at a busy high street, or it will record everything running down the batteries quickly and using up your Arlo data allowance. For that kind of use you would need the Arlo wired camera and a paid Arlo data plan. The ideal use of these cameras is to pick up special or unusual movements, so they are perfect to monitor the inside of your home when you are on holiday, but if you want to monitor a place with lots of movement, I recommend getting the wired version.

Q: Questioncan it be easily stolen
Asked by suspious.
- A:Answer If it is mounted outside and you are using the magnetic mount, then YES it can be stolen. You will have to place it up high or purchase a different type of mount for it that screws into the camera, then you attached it with screws to a wall or something.

Q: QuestionCan you turn off the camerasI'd want to put on inside my house but do not want it to record us, only when we are asleep or away can you turn them on and on individually if so is this done on app or on device?
Asked by lora.
- A:Answer Yes, you can set them up on a schedule to only record at certain times. Essentially, the part you are scheduling is the motion detection. They're always on (but in power saving mode). The cameras aren't technically on unless you're actively looking at them through the app. When motion detection is on, it will be looking to trigger the camera to turn on. That's how he batteries last so long.

Q: QuestionHas anyone used the cloud storage to review stored video? Is there a fee?I want to ve able to review events recorded somehow, and it says "Cloud storage Lets you save recent activity to view at a later time." Has anyone used this feature? Is there a specific cloud storage app? Do you have to pay a fee to store the video? How many days of storage does it handle?
Asked by Porkys.
- A:Answer I use cloud storage to review recordings, and 2 GB of data is free. Anymore, and you will pay for the cloud storage. I can typically record 5-6 days with cloud storage. I have a 1TB hard drive and I just download video that I want to keep on to that device. You can also save to a thumb drive or any other external storage device. The system will also send an email notification when your cloud storage is almost full.

Q: QuestionDoes this system require a wi-fi system?I am looking for a system that can use a cell phone app to view and check, but doesn't need a Wi-Fi system installed to make it work.
Asked by Ron.
- A:Answer Yes it runs off of your home network (WiFi) but you can view the cams using your smart phone and you do not need to be on WiFi

Q: QuestionAre the Batteries a Standard Size/Type, or Proprietary? Rechargeable?I really have two questions: 1.) Are the batteries a standard size/type, or proprietary? If proprietary, then replacing them every few days or weeks would become cost prohibitive. 2.) Are the batteries rechargeable? If they are rechargeable and a standard type, then the only inconvenience would be placing the cameras where they could be easily accessed and maintained. Thanks in advance for any responses!
Asked by Decider2.
- A:Answer Cr123a batteries are closer to $2 per battery (not $5-7) and even cheaper in bulk

Q: Questionwhat is the battery life
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer It's really going to be dependent on how you set up the "rules" for your camera. For instance, I have my motion sensors on and the sensitivity set to 100%, so anytime something goes by it records; 24x7. I also have the duration set to 1 min; it can record up to 2 mins. With those two combinations, I probably get 100+ notifications a day. My batteries last about a month. Hope this helps.

Q: QuestionCan camera be mounted behind glass to monitor outdoor activity?I have two crazy neighbors who trash my car and garden, stalk and follow me in car. The police said to install surveillance cameras but the co-op president says it must be mounted inside the windows. I park my car on street [at night] and there may be glare from street lampposts and window.
Asked by criminal mischief.
- A:Answer I bought this for a similar reason. I have only had it for 2 days, but I am having no luck with having motion detected through glass. I have walked back and forth over a large range, waved, etc and no motion is detected. I followed the instructions, but no luck. Of note, I get a perfect picture all the way across the street (200ft), if just viewing. I can see cars and people clearly. Problem is It just isn't detecting motion and recording even at 5-6 ft away (through glass anyway).
