Bought this particular unit for the increased resolution over the other models. Voice commands are very helpful, but sometimes are triggered by just random talking that sounds nothing like "Ok Garmin" - which can get annoying. I bought the "parking" cable as well so I could have Best Buy install it, hide the cable, and never have to worry about charging a battery: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/garmin-parking-mode-cable-for-garmin-dash-cam-45-and-55-cameras-black/5791504.p?skuId=5791504 By default, it's configured to record in parking mode, which I later found out is a terrible feature. Parking mode videos are counted as "saved" videos and the camera will start erasing your actual saved videos to make room for more parking videos. Parking videos should be classified the same as "unsaved" videos and be the first to be deleted based on oldest age first. I got a 128GB Samsung EVO card for this and it took about 2 weeks for the card to fill up with the "parking" videos and warn me that it was going to start deleting saved videos to make room. The two cons being parking videos are classified as saved videos, and the voice commands randomly triggering for things that sound nothing like "Ok Garmin", I've been very pleased with the camera. It's such a small device, that it was easy to conceal in my 2017 Mazda CX-5, which has a rather large footprint taken up by whatever they have mounted to the review mirror (probably a bunch of sensors). I don't ever notice the camera except for when it turns on and off with the car. My first trip out of Best Buy after having it installed, somebody swerved into my lane, causing me to swerve off the road onto the shoulder for a second, so I'm glad I have it now, and not some cheap Chinese brand like you find on Amazon. I wanted something reliable that I knew would get updates from the manufacturer. Everything I read for reviews indicated that Garmin was responsive to customer issues and actually pushed updates because of their responsiveness, fixing critical bugs. You won't get that kind of support from the cheap brands you find everywhere. Video quality seems solid, I can make out license plates, and it does well in low light, so not much else you can ask for with video quality. Picture quality isn't as good, but I still find myself trying to save video and pictures of just interesting things when traveling.

I have been using the Garmin 55 for 4 months now everyday in my car. This was my first Garmin Dashcam after 5 other cheap dashcams over 3 years from the A site that had to be returned, broke, or refunded under the extra warranty. Don't mess with those, I wasted so much time--just get this one. These things are complex and have to be top quality so you have video when you need it. In Los Angeles it is mandatory that you have a dash cam because everyone practices their “story” when they are in an accident—it will always be “your fault.” This Garmin is far superior to any others on the market--it's in a class by itself with the best resolution, size, weight, and menu operation. Garmin thought of everything including the great micro size and weight. It also comes with: Forward Collision Warning that works very well. Lane Watch: It over alerts because it is not connected to your turn signals. Traffic Moving Warning: It's a bit too sensitive. You can turn all of them off if you want with the menu settings. It’s also easy to snap a photo while you drive—the button is right on the camera. I mounted my camera right in front of me at the headliner and the cord is very long to wire all around. Buy a quality 64 GB micro card for it and put the settings on 60fps for the best resolution. The default is 30fps. I recommend buying the Best Buy extended warranty. These things running all the time in the sun with vibrations are subject to problems. In sum, you may have tried the rest...now try the best and get this one and stop worrying—you will have them on film. PS Here is a clip of Video from the Garmin I recently shot: https://youtu.be/TKzlRA5-ycs

Garmen 55 Dash Cam: Good News and Bad News

I purchased the Garmen 55 dash cam and had it hard wired by Best Buy. Good News: The installation was very good, the employee was very polite and cordial. The camera is small, the mount seems secure, and the wire was long enough for a hard wire installation. The Bad News: I have a 2017 Prius, and the install didn't work well with the Prius electric grid system. The charger was not recharging, resulting in a dead camera. Apparently the car was not supportive of the install, at least at the site that Best Buy did the actual hook-up. The "application" and process for viewing the saved or "non-saved videos" is complicated and labor intensive. You have to open the ap, get the camera to the correct page, open your phone wifi, get the camera to connect to the phone via the camera's wifi and the process is time consuming and has to be done a number of times each session...as the camera disconnects easily. I have yet to be able to download a full video file of my travels to my android phone. Bottom line: I took the 55 back and received a full refund. I then purchased a 45 from Best Buy and installed it myself keeping the cigarette lighter type power source and plugging it into the power source of the Prius. This works. It does not drain the camera's battery, and keeps it recharged. I miss the voice activation of the 55, where I can say OK-GARMEN, Save Video...and not have to touch the camera button to save the footage currently running. Since the camera is so small, it is difficult for the driver to reach over and push the bottom button, without disturbing the view of the camera. With the 55, the voice activation is great. The picture of the 45 is not as good as the 55 either. I was able to buy a 45 at the store and have to wait 2 weeks to get the 55, but..I think I will return the 45 and go back to the 55 without the hard wire install. I like the camera, it is a shame that the application isn't more user friendly. Worth a try if you are looking to buy a decent dash camera.

The dash cam is great and is easy to use. Very easy to setup also. Setting it up to pair with your phone after downloading the app is also easy to use but after that first initial phone pairing it tend to be combursome to pair with the phone again. It doesn’t just pair by itself like you would expect. Video quality is good and I like that this now records audio unlike the days cam 35 I had prior to this. But overall I like it. My fiancé has the 45 and she loves it.

Love the unit...small size, good video, voice commands work....but...had to add the parking cable for 38.18 after tax, and no fuse taps in the box, so 12.00 for taps at the parts store.....$50 extra if you want to use the parking mode, for cables and connectors that other cams include in the box....something it would cost Grmin very little to include....still, once installed, a great unit

Great dashcam, great picture and easy to use. My only complaint would be the collision warning etc, way to sensitive. When you are in traffic it keeps alerting you even when not needed. I turned it off. The voice command feature is awesome. Only sometimes when using your bluetooth or words from the radio make it save things you didnt want because it mistakes the command .

The Garmin Dash Cam55 (1440p HD) functions extremely well, is easy to operate, and for its small size produces excellent video. The high definition model is well worth the extra cost. I had it installed at a local Best Buy store technician for a total of about $75.00. This was done in a very professional manner, with virtually all the wiring hidden behind the car panels -- well worth the cost.

I bought the Garmin Dash Cam 55 because I drive a lot and because of the size. It works very well and let's you know when you cross over the white or yellow lines. The only complaint I have is the volume is not very loud for the warning tones. Other then that I would still purchase one.
