Perfect HP Laptop Balance
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendBought this for my wife to use as her daily use laptop. With the Intel I5 Processor, 6GB of RAM and a 1TB HD it does a great job as a daily use laptop. At just a tad over 6lbs, it's easy to pick up and carry around with you and does not get hot or uncomfortable sitting on your lap while surfing the Internet, reading email or doing MS Office tasks. The wireless connection works well and the keyboard is really nice to type on. I have read other reviews that stated they don't like the keyboard, but I actually feel it's one of the better laptop keyboards out there. The keys have a nice 'click' or 'tactile' feel to them and the build quality overall is really good. It will be a solid computer for several years now!!

Great laptp for most users! Highly Recommend!
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendGreat laptop! Highly recommended! I’m hunting for a 17’’ laptop on the market. I’m a business man mainly checking email, web surf, using some business software like office, adobe, QuickBooks, sometimes play some small video game, watch movies. This laptop is the perfect one! I don’t like 15’’, which is so small for business use. We want to protect our eyes, reduce the radiation and keep a distance from the laptop. So 17’’ is my target at first. BTW: the big cost of laptop in the market is the screen. So big screen more value! I’m an IT professional, so I know how to get a good configuration. For laptop, I highly recommend INTEL CPU instead of AMD due to the radiating problem of all laptops. For desktop, AMD is OK. For INTEL, i5 is really a middle choice. I have a i3 desktop, which is a little slow for some web page and videos. i7 CPU is a little over my need. I think most people that needs i7 laptop either plays some fancy video game, or does design work by professional software, but the price surely show the difference. For RAM memory, 4GB to run windows 8 is a little slow, 6GB is perfectly cover the speed and not overwhelmed. For Hard Drive, I really like a SSD drive, but this kind of laptop with a SSD drive is always over $700. 1TB is enough for me for storage. Also, I want to talk about 2 in 1 laptop and touchscreen. Based on my feeling, only 2 in 1 laptop need touchscreen, which means, you can use it as a tablet. A regular laptop with touch screen is almost useless. You will see that you don’t use the touch when you buy the laptop, probably once a month? No. For brand, HP is also the No.1 brand that has the biggest laptop market in the world. Anyway, I really like this laptop and it covers all my work. I will purchase another one for my mother. She also wants a laptop. Surely, 17’’ screen is a must for her! Highly recommend this laptop.

It's big!
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendNice laptop. Feels huge but it's not that heavy. My only real complaint is the up and down arrow keys are actually one key split in half. I use these keys more than I ever realized and it drives me nuts because I keep reaching up for the up arrow and I end up hitting shift. Otherwise it's handled every one of my demands with ease.

Very satisfied with this laptop
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI've had this laptop for about a month now and, so far, I'm very happy with it. I'm still adjusting to the keyboard and touchpad but the performance is excellent and I really love the 17" screen. The CD/DVD drive seems a bit flimsy, so I'm hoping it holds up but, at least it came with one- so many I looked at don't even have one. Overall, I'm very happy and would recommend this laptop to others. Best Buy's price was the best I found and the shipping was prompt as well.

Not Bad, But Not Great Either
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI was never really an HP fan, but found a good deal on one last year, with a 3rd gen I3, 17.3 inch screen, for 329$. Well a few keys stopped working intermittently after about a month or two. Even though the keyboard is better on this unit, it's still a concern. But for the price, the specs are very good. I'll just go by pros and cons, since it's not a whole lot different than the one I had before. PROS * Built Quality is good, as with most HP's, keys do feel a little cheap as others have said. Less chicklet like, which i prefer. If pushed hard enough I think they would go down into the laptop itself. * Sound is adequate, ,about the same as my other laptop. You're not going to be blown away by any laptop speakers. But they do put out good sound if you use Media Player. With the Groove Music app, not so much. * Very bright screen, almost too bright. But that's ok, very good viewing angles as well. * I5 is good, and it's a fifth gen, even though my I3 seems(ed) faster, with just browsing. Has a lot of power for video converting, editing etc. Also boots up pretty fast. Again WIndows 10 is still buggy, and takes up a lot of memory, compared to 8.1, which most don't know. CONS * Track Pad is decent but feels very cheap, I would much rather have two separate right and left mouse click buttons. Also the whole pad clicks if you push in the middle. And it's also not the most responsive when just lightly tapped. * Hard Drive is terribly loud, and runs about 80% of the time, but overall the rest of the laptop is quiet. And Laptops this big don't run hot at all. Which is another plus. * No Bluetooth which seems to be common in nearly every HP I've come across. Not sure why they choose not to include this, but I would rather have it, then not. * Wireless Adapter isn't the best, doesn't disconnect, but hangs up to five seconds or more on certain sites. Or you just have to reload it. Could be a drive problem, which I could update. I have 50mb with 150mb Blast, so it's certainly NOT my internet. And I've worked on computers for nearly 20 years. So I think I would probably know. So overall it's a good laptop for the money, yet still considered a budget PC. Even though 500$ is a lot of money these days. Years ago this would have been more like 900$. So i guess I can't complain (to much). The size helps with not hitting the trackpad when typing, since it doesn't have an off button. Backlit keyboard would have been nice as well. SAMS actually has this same laptop (design), with the same HDD, and Processor. But 8 gigs of RAM, backlit keyboard, and bluetooth. But it's nearly 700$. So I guess saving money is a good thing. I would recommend this to someone who likes a big screen laptop, Or for someone who wants desktop replacement. Which most people don't even use anymore, alongwith good build quality. Much better than Asus IMO. One was sitting next to this with similar specs, same large screen. Which is very cheaply made, for this price range. So let's hope the Windows 10 updates don't mess anything up on this one.Like it does with so many other laptop brands today. If so, I'll just go back to my old one and spend about 250$ to get the keyboard replaced. And keep Windows 8.1. Here's hoping.

Pleased
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendGood computer. However I paid to have a lot of data transferred and Geek Square did not tell me I would not be able to open these Word docs since I did not purchase Word. Was told the HP laptop came with a similar compatible program. Fortunately I also purchased tech support and was finally able to get Open Office installed and the docs converted by a techie who remoted in. I old and no longer tech savvy which was obvious to the sales crew and Geek Squad. Please tell your folks to pay attention to individual customers and not make assumptions about their abilities and needs. Thanks
Q: Questionis the 6gb of ram upgradeable to 16gb????
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Not without removing the whole bottom to access the 2 DIMM slots, M.2. wifi, and HDD. I upgraded mine to 16GB of PC1866 Crucial along with a Samsung EVO 850 500GB SSD. Note that the wifi card is M.2 size and only has 1 antennae routed to the top lid. The computer is quite fast with the above configuration. Only wish it had a discrete graphics but HD5500 is not bad.

Q: QuestionSD and SDHC cardsDoes this computer accept SD and SDHC cards from my digital camera??? Thanks
Asked by Ivyappletree.
- A:Answer It absolutely does, albeit in a very inconvenient spot (under the USB ports, have to lift the laptop to even see the card reader). The Slot is standard SD size, so if you have micro/mini SD you'll likely need the adapter
