Just a very good sound bar and subwoofer system

Quality5 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:Bass, For movies, Set upThis JBL system is a great balance of performance and simplicity. Having used another rented Sony sound bar/subwoofer system the past couple of years living abroad, I was frustrated by how difficult it was to understand dialogue depending on the show or movie (I had my AppleTV box with me so was watching the same type of content I was before and now am back in the U.S.), and would constantly be switching through different sound presets the Sony offered to get the best results for whatever I happened to be watching. The JBL, with no optional sound presets other than bass level, sounds great no matter what I’m watching. Dialogue is clear but doesn’t feel “thin”. Movies via Amazon Prime or Apple have the “cinematic sound” and the 5.1 surround effect is more effective than I would have expected. Somehow, this JBL system gets the frequency tuning just right out of the box. I don’t need a bunch of different sound mixing presets to make different programming to sound good. The instructions and set-up are almost strangely simple; a power and HDMI connection, turn it on, and it’s ready to go. My favorite thing beyond the sound performance is the remote. Including the power ON/OFF button, there are only 7 buttons; simple and no nonsense. The only mild complaint I have is a slight latency in the muting after pressing the MUTE button. I’m used to it now, but it was noticeable to me at first. The JBL 5.1 sound bar doesn’t have a lot of frills and options, but then again, that’s probably because it doesn’t need them to deliver satisfying and high-quality sound performance.

Quality1 out of 5Value1 out of 5Ease of Use3 out of 5I purchased this item at the end of June and it’s malfunctioning now in October!! Of course I can’t return it now... I guess the extra warranty is always the best thing to add! The previous Gen JBL 3.1 lasted 7 years so I thought this one would do the same? I guessed wrong!

Very worth it!

Quality5 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:Bass, Sound qualityI shopped around and had to return a few other soundbars including brands like LG, Sony, Samsung, even Yamaha to finally cave in and fork out the extra cash to get this JBL soundbar. Fortunately it was out on display to test out and it blew every other soundbar out of the water. This has superb bass and fantastic sound quality at every volume level (low, mid, LOUD!). It is a large soundbar so be sure to have space for it width and length wise, the subwoofer... is HUMONGOUS so be sure to have space for it. I am very picky so I am very satisfied on this purchase! (Took awhile to find the right one). You pay for what you get!

Great sound bar for our living room

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:For movies, Sound qualityAfter wanting to upgrade my Vizio 2.1 for a while I finally went with this jbl 5.1 I was blown away by the subwoofer. I'm a guy that likes to feel the rumble in action packed movies. It makes it that more exciting. If you're not into that overpowering rumble you also have an option to lower the bass. The sound on soudbar is good not great. I wish the highs were a little better. Overall I like this 5.1 its definitely a great upgrade from what I had. Movies are so much more exciting to watch and didn't break the bank purchasing it.

Best soundbar for bass heads
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:Bass, Sound qualityHas very good sound quality, bass is the best out of all the soundbars ive tried out, def booms nicely with its 10 inch subwoofer which i keep on its side cuz if i keep it upright the down-firing sub speaker rattles my TV stand as you can see in the pic i posted. Plenty loud enough but i use for my average sized aaa bedroom, not sure how the loudness would hold up in a large living room. Has good build quality, nice and sturdy, attractive sleek appearance. The side firing speakers do a pretty good job for a virtual surround sound effect during certain situations like high action movie scenes, but of course isnt as good as actually having rear speakers. For the cost i would expect more customization for the sound tho and for this reason i give it 4 stars instead of 5, only sound mode for everything is the one they give which does sound good tho it would be nice to have options. And lack of EQ control is disappointing can only tweak the bass, but when listening to music i just use the 6 band EQ in Spotify. Pros: Good sound quality - great booming bass - decent virtual surround sound effect - good build quality Cons: Lack of sounds modes - lack of EQ

Hooked this thing up to Samsung 55" Premium UHD 4k 8000 series TV in about 5 minutes and cranking theater quality sound throughout my apartment. Even my neighbors enjoyed the sub on high lol.

Q: QuestionThe subwoofer has been super underwhelming, I have it turned to 5 and it’s just not deep, punchy or rumbly like my Bar 3.1. Am I missing something here? I was excited for the signature JBL powerful bass and was disappointed when setting it up today.
Asked by Christian.
- A:Answer Same here. When we hook it up to the PS4 it has good bass, but not great. When hooked up to the TV, you can hardly tell the subwoofer is on. There is minimal bass even after the firmware update and turning the bass to level 5. We have watched movies that had good bass in them and still the subwoofer isn't nearly as good as the reviews. We checked the settings on our Samsung TV, reset the soundbar, repaired the sub, replaced the HDMI cable, hooked it up with optical cable, moved the sub around etc...and still VERY underwhelming bass.

Q: QuestionWhat is the ethernet hook up used for on this soundbar?
Asked by Sidneyjr.
- A:Answer Firmware updates. When I first set up my sound bar, it had three levels of subwoofer output to choose from (low, medium and high). Then it updated the firmware and now there are five levels of subwoofer output to choose from.

Q: QuestionDoes the 5.1 soundbar have the same bluetooth issues as the 3.1? With the 3.1 anyone can connect to it. I found at at 5am when a neighbor intentionally hooked up to it & put it full blast. Not very fun. So does this soundbar solve that issue?
Asked by Clean240.
- A:Answer I used to own a 3.1 and feel your pain! The 5.1 half solves that issue in that the soundbar needs to be in Bluetooth mode in order to connect to it. On the 3.1 you could connect to it with Bluetooth no matter which mode it was in. The flip side of this is that on the 3.1 you could connect an Alexa Echo and just tell it "connect to the Bluetooth speaker", and it would connect away and start playing. You can no longer do this on the 5.1, as you would need to deliberately switch its mode to Bluetooth. The 5.1 still doesn't have a default Bluetooth password that you need to enter. If you leave it in Bluetooth mode then I believe anyone could connect to it UNLESS your existing Bluetooth connection to it is still active. On the 3.1 I had mitigated the issue by plugging an old tablet in and connecting it to the soundbar's Bluetooth permanently. Since I never used Bluetooth otherwise, it prevented others from connecting. The 5.1 is moderately better than 3.1 in this aspect, but still no real security.

Q: QuestionHow do you adjust the settings and volume if there is no remote? Confused
Asked by Jim.
- A:Answer Our JBL Bar 5.1 Surround volume can be adjusted using the remote. The soundbar also has volume controls on the top panel that you can use to adjust the volume. If you've set up remote learning, you can use your TV remote control to adjust the audio.
