QuestionWill it work for a desktop computer

- Answer Yes, but not for very long. In my case, it powered the phone company "modem", an ethernet switch, and whatever box the phone company had outside my house for about 1/2 hour. I have another of these that ran my Mac mini for long enough for a clean shut down. Then I used it's power to run a led light bulb (about 4 watts) for several hours.

QuestionDoes APC offer a UPS that can filter dirty power that might be harming the printed circuit boards on kitchen equipment--e.g., a refrigerator or a wall oven? Looking for a device that eliminates power abnormalities to protect these PCBs.

- Answer APC units do clean the power coming out of the wall, however make sure you buy one with enough wattage for the equipment you’re planning on running. For example, and microwave can be anything from 1000-1600 watts.

- Answer You can buy an adapter at the hardware store that converts a 3-way grounded plug to a 2-way ungrounded outlet. If you want to ground it anyway, some adapters have an extra connector you can wire if you're experienced. It should work just fine.

- Answer I had the same issues several times. The short answer is: this unit is a piece of crap. Do like I did and throw it in the garbage and buy a model a couple steps up. This was the first time I had purchased the entry-level unit from APC and I should have known better. My last higher-end units lasted for years with zero issues. This was nothing but trouble. APC should be ashamed of themselves for producing such an inferior product.

- Answer None. This is stand alone. I would purchase one that can shut devices like a PC down safely without user intervention. APC offers some with USB and downloadable software to accomplish.

QuestionWhy does the unit not power off ALL outlets when pressing the power button? The two surge only outlets stay live. Power off should be just that for all outlets. I need to shut off all connected devices. Should at least be a programmable option. Very odd.

- Answer Thank you for your inquiry. The surge outlets would remain on if the power button is pressed off. To cut power to the surge only outlets you would need to disconnect the UPS's power plug from the wall. Unfortunately the option to turn them off would not be programmable on this unit either. I apologize for any inconvenience this causes.
