“All I need is a camera to alert me when it detects motion and sends me alerts. I don't care much about storage because I have another set of cameras with an NVR so that takes care of the actual recordings. Would you recommend this camera for alerts only”

YES !!! They are excellent for that purpose. The notifications are received in about (3) seconds, and rewind to about (5) seconds prior to detecting the sound or movement.
