I purchased the Arlo Q to use indoors with the Arlo Pro system (4 cameras). They all work great together as long as you don't mind the power wire for the Arlo Q. I was very pleased with the quality of the picture and sound (you can talk to someone through the camera using the Arlo app. I'm buying 2 more tomorrow. Great product and easy to set up. The first camera (Arlo Q) went into my garage.

Nice Not Having to Replace Batteries

I needed a 5th Arlo camera and having it wired (Plugged into 110V outlet) for power was perfectly fine in the new location. This camera works great and no batteries! The only thing I don't like about the Arlo Q is that you can't use it to trip the other, wireless, cameras to record like you can with Rules and Modes for the rest of the system. It seems to be independent of the other cameras with it's own Modes and Rules. Hopefully a Netgear update comes out fixing this but it's not really a deal breaker since I can easily work around that issue. Oh, and the power cord is awesomely long. I have it up at the ceiling level and it easily reaches the outlet. My walls are close to white and the cord runs down close to a window trim so it's hardly noticeable. If someone was going to run it down the middle of a dark wall it would be pretty ugly. Of course you might be able the paint the cord with some kind of flexible hobby paint to match walls.

Its a pretty decent camera if you just to capture a clear image of general movement, but for being a 1080 camera it cant read the plate numbers of cars 50 feet away, so detail is not there. I cant recommend it if you really need identifying information but as a general camera sure.

It was amazing! For the first month that we had it then exactly 30 days later the 2 way audio stopped working. The night vision works well and the zoom feature works well. When I open the app to look at the picture it takes a good 4 minutes to refresh and load :( I guess I got my money’s worth I wish we would have bought the more expensive cameras.

I installed this in my first bedroom window to catch views out my front door. Tons of different mounting options as it has a removable mounting base and great swiveling neck. You do have to play with distance, and angle to not pick up glare off the glass at night. The microphone works really well as I can hear outside sounds even though its inside. Now I want 3 more to get a full 360 view around the place.

Awesome Arlo Q Security Camera from NETGEAR

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I’ve received this item free to review and test for NETGEAR’s First Look Review Program. It’s great to be part of this Program and will be giving all honest reviews throughout my participation with this program. ~First Thoughts~ When I received this package in the mail from NETGEAR I thought it would have been in a bigger box but it wasn’t. As I opened the package I enjoyed the way it was packed within its own box and felt like they want the customer to have a great experience with opening it. I find myself saying Arlo from times to times because it’s very catchy jingle. ~Setup~ The installation for the Arlo Q Security Camera was easy just had to find the right place for it in my home to watch the front door and the rest of the house. I used the wall mount included with the camera but didn’t want to screw the wall mount into my wall at the moment of install so I used heavy duty Velcro strips to place the wall mount onto the wall. The set up for this camera was easy took less than 10 minutes with the application on my android phone. I measured the power cable to this camera and runs almost 10 feet so you’ve got plenty of room move the camera to where you want it. ~Features~ Best features within a single camera at 1080P! The Night vison works great for this camera and the audio it picks up from the camera sounds very clear. The Motion and Sound detection works like a charm and with the Free 7 days of recordings work great for these cameras but upgrading your plan can help if you own more than one. The camera also supports 2-way audio so you can communicate between the people at your house. ~Performance~ The performance for this camera is great with only a 5 second delay from the time you watch it on a live stream to your device. The picture comes in perfect along with the audio. Everything is synced together when you review the videos with audio. ~Did Product meet my expectation?~ Yes it did! As with every product that comes from NETGEAR every customer should enjoy the quality that NETGEAR puts into the production of every single item that they make. ~Price-value~ The price of a single camera comes in at $219.99 so it is a hefty price at this price range for just one camera but the quality of these are great and you won’t regret it. ~Would I recommend this item to my friends and or a family member?~ As always I recommend this to any one that is looking for great product from NETGEAR. “I’ve received this Arlo Q Security Camera free from NETGEAR’s First Look Review Program”

Great wired home monitoring HD camera

    Posted .

I’ve used and liked Arlo in the past and I was pretty happy to try out the new wired version. First off the camera is solid. It looks like it’s made well and with good materials. Setting up an Arlo Q camera is very easy. The app takes you through a quick setup where it asks you for Wi-Fi info to create a QR code that you let the new camera take a picture of to join your network. Simple idea, but pretty cool. Once connected the camera updates its firmware and you’re up and running. When the picture first came up, I was surprised that my entire body was in the picture even though I thought I was out of view. To say the least, it has a very clear picture and a pretty wide viewing angle. I was even surprised by the night mode quality. It’s obviously not as clear as a daytime view, but in pitch black settings it still has a clear picture where I was able to make out everything I saw. The only thing I feel was missing was the ability to use the ArloQ outside. I’ve seen the Arlo app go through a couple of iterations. Since the beginning it’s gotten more stable and navigation has consistently gotten easier. It’s now divided into three sections. The “mode” section lets you customize motion/audio detection settings throughout the week. It starts recording, sends you a push notification and/or email if it detects something. This is great for emergencies or if you just want to know when someone has gotten home. I like how the “Cameras” section lets you customize your cameras. It lets you watch/listen live, record, take a snapshot and a couple of other things. I used it to have a conversation with my wife. It’s not the same as talking over the phone, but it still worked well. The “Library” tab has all of the recordings broken down into a calendar. You can download your videos from there as well. Overall the Arlo Q went above and beyond what I was expecting in a wired home monitoring camera. I’ve already recommended it to a friend and I’d say the price is about right based on the feature set.

The camera alerts every movement even though I've designated a certain area to be monitored. I receive about 50 false alerts a day. For instance if I selected just my yard to be monitored but someone drives by on the road I get an alert. I'm not really satisfied with this camera.

    Exactly what I wanted

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have been reading reviews for months before I picked out this camera. I wanted a nest cam since I have a nest thermostat and smoke alarms however while I liked everything else about the nest cam, I did not want to pay $10 a month for recordings, and without paying that $10 a month there was no way to record anything that happened, even if I was watching it as it happened on the app. All I wanted was a camera that could capture video when motion was detected while we are away on vacations or more than a few hours, or to check in on our puppy that we are soon getting. I don't want one that stores the video on a memory card as a thief could just remove that on their way out. This camera is perfect. For what I want at least. It was easy to set up. It has a long enough power cord to place it where I needed it. No batteries to replace. And it immediately stores the video clips in the "cloud" when it detects motion and these are viewable for seven days. There is no monthly fee for this and the app allows you to download the clip to your phone if you need to keep it longer than seven days. The video picture seems fine and I had no problem connecting to our Wi-Fi and setting it up. It is easy to arm and disarm it through the app. I can run through the room and within five seconds I get an alert on my phone that there was motion detected. I can then view it on the app or wait about 30 seconds and Arlo emails me a link in my email that goes directly to the video that was recorded. I thought it would cut off me running through the room since I did it so quickly however it started recording about five seconds before I ran through and therefore captured everything. I set it to record 30 seconds when motion is detected but you can pick from 10 seconds up to two minutes depending on your preference. The status light on the front of the camera can be turned off easily in the app so the camera can be hidden more easily if desired. I tested out the night vision briefly and while I don't have anything to compare it to, it seems like it worked well. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and like that I don't have to pay a monthly fee.

I was very impressed with the quality of the video and especially with the HUGE amount of the field of view of the camera. Easily connected to my Arlo system and I love how easy it is to monitor from my phone or other remote device and the quality of the video is superior even when using it remotely. The only knock I would give (slightly) is the audio has a lag when you talk through a remote device but that is to be expected, just like on Skype or something like that so I couldn't give it less than 5 stars.

Exceeded expectations, app a little buggy.

This little camera has exceeded my expectations. The setup was incredibly simple and worked without a hitch. The power cord is plenty long without being overly long. The picture quality is fantastic, and on my network, the delay of the live stream is about 2-3 seconds which is excellent in my experience. There are a number of very negative reviews on the Best Buy website for this product and they made me a little nervous at first. Of course, with a 2 week return policy at Best Buy, I figured that I didn't have much to lose other than a little time setting up and returning if it didn't work out. My fears were unfounded, however. This has worked beautifully and the flexibility of the app really surprised me. Very good app design with more options that I expected. I realized that I only have it set at 720p resolution, but that was more than enough. I haven't tried setting it to a full 1080p, so I can't speak for the performance of the camera at that resolution. Nevertheless, the 720p resolution is more than sufficient for my purposes of office lobby security and monitoring. I just set up my iPad in my office next to my computer with the Arlo app streaming a live feed of the lobby. It's perfect. My only complaint is that the app has crashed 2 or three times inexplicably. I imagine they'll keep working on ironing out those bugs. But for now, my overall opinion is that it performs at least as expected, and better in some areas. I would definitely recommend the Arlo Q for a single camera security solution.

I tried out a few cameras before I settled on the Arlo Q. Very easy to set up, great 1080p quality in light and at night, motion and audio detections that notify me via text and email and my favorite, geofencing. Geofencing is when I leave or arrive at my home, it turns the camera on or off automatically and notifies me via email or text. I can record for up to 3 minutes for each detection for free for 24 hours, which works well for me. Of course you can subscribe to longer services. Extremely pleased with this product and highly recommend it.

    Better than Nest

We looked into this one and the nest indoor cam that we could use as a baby cam and then as an indoor security cam afterwards and are glad we chose this one. This one has all the same perks as the nest indoor cam but the camera itself can also swivel left and right. The nest cam can only go up and down! The Arlo Q also comes with the ability to record up to 5 mins automatically when it detects motion or audio and you are able to receive notifications when there is motion and/or audio FOR FREE. They do have upgrade options that will allow additional recording as well, but we declined those options. We have been testing this out on our dog when we aren’t home and it has been working great. The video and audio quality are top notch! Depending on your WiFi connection there can be a delay, we timed ours out and it was about 5 seconds, so when we used the 2 way audio we had to keep that in mind. We got this with the Best Buy Black Friday price, which was $10 cheaper than the Nest Cam and are very happy with our choice.

I have 2 Nest cameras and several Arlo cameras. I prefer the Arlo cameras. The biggest think is Arlo gives you 7 days of free cloud recording per camera. Nest only gives you 3hrs (unless you pay additional). The video quality is quite good and I don't seem to get false motion triggers. The cameras are real easy to setup via the app. Also Arlo is working on integration with a number of other services for your smart home so that is nice.

Love Our Puppy / Security Cam!

A few months ago, I had a few BestBuy gift cards that were burning a hole in my wallet... my wife and I decided that we've always wanted to see what our pets do when we're gone, and having a security camera was an extra bonus :) Pros: The simplicity is amazing! Setup was a breeze, and the camera was up and running in no time. The camera has a lot of great features, video quality is great, and motion and sound detection works well. The infrared night camera mode works perfectly, as well. Cons: I did experience a few bumps with the GeoFencing app configuration, where it wouldn't detect me arriving or leaving every now and then. To remedy this, I simply opened the app, then it corrected itself. Also the sound is not stellar, but we never use this feature, so it wasn't a dealbreaker. The Nest Cam does have better sound, and seems to have slightly better edge on video too, but not enough to be a detractor. Conclusion: A solid alternative the Nest Cam if you don't have other Nest products to integrate with. Fun to watch your puppy bark at package deliverymen from behind the door, and also knowing your home is being watched for any suspicious activity. We love our Arlo!

While traveling home from winter vacation last year our. we were notified by our house checking neighbor that our basement was flooded with 26 inches of water. The process of remediation, ruined water heater, washer/dryer, and a rebuilt furnace blower and new circuit boards were overwhelming. I decided that we needed some sort of visual or audible alert system to monitor the basement in those periods when the neighbors aren't checking the house. We researched vision systems that we could monitor while on our travels. We decided on the Arlo by Net Gear. The sales person at Best Buy was extremely helpful and guided us towards the Arlo WiFI. As long as we have power at the house (which we should because of a generator set up) and stay connected thru the router we can view the basement as long as we are accessible WiFI. Not a techie type person Arlo was truly easy to set up. Mounting plate and screws are include. The clarity of the picture is extremely good. There are other options that can be utilized such as audible,, which we don't use. Every time there is movement in the basement in the vicinity of the camera view, I get a text message alert as well as a mail notification. The $200.00 spent may seem pricey, but the piece of mind from a basement flood more than covers the cost. I would recommend this product to anyone requiring a camera/ audible system.

I got this to monitor my interior house basement that has recessed ceiling lighting. I tried out the Ring Stick up and this Arlo Q. Hoping this review will help someone who doesn't know which to chose, similar to my situation. Due to the build of the basement on my Ring camera, the lights drew a yellow tingy appearance that was a bit difficult to look at. The Arlo Q for whatever difference, did not have that issue. The scope on the Ring was a hair better (fish-eye view or whatever they call it) but for the trade off- the lighting issue I was having, it wasn't worth keeping the Ring especially since prior to buying the Ring I did not realize you had to purchase a subscription to review any footage. What is the point in having any of these home security monitoring cameras unless you can go back and pull footage? If you didn't need the footage it would be because you were home, if you were home 24-7 you wouldn't need the cameras! It amazed me that no one in BB told me this prior to purchasing. Anyways, the Arlo-Q COMES WITH FREE 7 DAY LOOP RECORDING FOR FREE. NO SUBSCRIPTION, NO MONTHLY PAYMENTS, NO CURRENT CHARGE HITTING YOUR CREDIT CARD. That is why I chose to keep the Arlo-Q, in addition to the lighting issue. The only thing I do not care for is that you have to review footage that is stored in 2 minute intervals and not a straight 24 hours through which is annoying but with Ring it was the same way. It was super tricky to set up and I had to call customer service BUT I have lost power and internet multiple times and the streaming comes right back up without having to reset it. Ring was easier to set up but seemed to drop off more and had to reconnect constantly. Nothing I would do about where my wifi router was and where I needed the cameras. I needed it ASAP and so far so good for 2-3 weeks I've had it.
