The closest xfinity approved device to the Arris SBG8300 would be the Netgear C7800-200NAS. Both are DOCIS 3.1 cable modems combined with the hi-speed WiFi Router. The Arris box is new and therefore the comparison tables for performance characteristics are not yet available. There is a Netgear C7800-100NAS which is older than the 200NAS and also more expensive than the 200, so you need to be specific with the Netgear evaluation. The Arris and Netgear devices seem to stack up pretty close. The marketing literature for the netgear device suggests that they have a broad WiFi range (maybe because of the winglet antennas). Until side-by-side measurable comparison occurs, it could be a toss-up except for the price and 2 year warranty that points to Arris.
