• Yes you could use it outside as long as it doesn't get wet.

• I installed it indoors but think it'd be ok as long as it doesn't get wet at all. If there is a chance of it getting wet long Ethernet cables are cheap and can be used to connect your modem to your router and your router to most all modern equipment.
