If You are removing the face plate to check information from the back, taking a picture of the wiring or reset the Wi-Fi connection you don't need to turn the power off before but we do recommend changing the mode on the thermostat to Off before removing it. Make sure when you schedule that you are mindful of what mode you are in. Either "group days" for all the same settings for each day of the week or in "view individual days" mode which requires separate settings for each day. Also make sure the fan is not in circulate mode as this circulates only the fan every 15+- minutes and does not turn heat/cool on, a nice feature to prevent stale air or circulate wood heat. And, if you make a temperature change you must select "permanent hold" or it will set back to default temperature after a prescribed duration of which I am not sure.
