“We have a heat pump, if the temperature drops below 30 degrees outside the heat pump switches over to the heat strips. My current Honeywell thermostate switches to aux heat, which is the heat strips. Will this still happen with this thermostat?”

Call Honeywell support. They are very good. Don't rely on replies posted here from guys that are taking a good guess.

The Smart Color WiFi Thermostat will switch to aux heat (heat strips) automatically if it is configured for the correct system type: heat pump with backup heat. You will not be able to select the outdoor temperature for this to happen, the thermostat will calculate it based on that information. Hope that you have a wonderful day!
