Yes, it will work on a single stage heating and cooling system. The main concern is if you have an older unit, it may only use a 4 wire cable and for this thermostat, using a 5 wire cable is the correct way for the installation. The 5 wire cable has an extra wire called the c-wire and is basically a ground for the electronic circuitry inside the thermostat. My inside HVAC unit had a C terminal on the circuit board and I was able to run a new cable and connect all 5 wires to the thermostat.

Please try again later.I can tell you that I just replaced an older mercury switch thermostat for our single stage heating and cooling heat pump system in the second story of our home, and the device works beautifully, and integrated well with our downstairs system which had been upgraded previously. Both well controlled by the App and programmable. You will require a "C" aka Common wire to provide power to the thermostat as this is not a battery powered device. We are delighted with our purchase; just a heads up on the C wire need; most heat pump and other newer systems will have one already. Hope this helps. Additional hint: Take a photo of the wiring block inside your current thermostat, and show it to your HVAC person, they'll know immediately if you have a C wire or equivalent. Example attached.

Does not work with electric baseboard heaters (120-240V) and millivolt systems. All Wi-Fi thermostats require a "C" or common wire to provide a constant 24 VAC power supply. To be sure that thermostat will be compatible, you require that C wire. For a proper recommendation, we will need to know the wires and the type of your system so we can verify compatibility.
