• The 5th gen i7 should support 16gb according to intel specs. There's at least one manufacturer that makes a single 16gb ddr3l chip. I've used it in a few dell's with only one slot. Since this has another chip not user accessible I'm not sure if it would work. Oh and it's very pricey.

• NO, mine has two slots already filled, and I believe soldered in but have not looked.

• HP's site says there is "1 user-accessible" memory slot. But I don't know what the maximum supported RAM is for this system; surely it's higher than 8GB.
