If you read under the Summary/Specifications area it states that this brand/style of cleaning disc cannot be used with a player with slots. Try talking to one of the sales reps. in the Audio/Video Dept. for info. about what style/brand you should buy.

It could very well be that your sony 400 cd player is not only obsolete, but that the unit is NOT COMPATIBLE for the lens cleaner. Keep in mind that department stores stopped selling CDs as of July 1st, 2018, which means that you will NOT be able to buy a new, up-to-date CD player. The only exception is that department stores might have some new, up-to-date CD players left to sell.
