• It reads the apps straight from your phone that Apple play allows you phone is plugged into the radio no downloading.

• You don’t install apps on the device. CarPlay “plays”the apps you have installed in your iPhone. But Apple limits those that will come through to CarPlay. You will have guessed then that apple allows Apple maps to display in Carplay but not google maps or Waze . Having said that I have been using Apple maps for around a month now and it works pretty well . Not at all the poor app that it was years ago. The iOS 11 update improved it immensely. You will have to plug the lightning cable into your phone even to get Apple maps. That also allows waaay better music quality than using the Bluetooth connection . Hope this helps.
