- Answer The optical drive is powered thru the USB port, but I doubt the head unit has the drivers or is set up to operate a free standing CD reader. Connecting one may be the best or only way to find out.

- Answer If you have the game in CD or DVD format, this should work to play it. It might be slightly slower because it's an external drive, but I never noticed any problems when reading or writing to the drive.
