- Answer Xbox Series S/X controllers use replaceable AA batteries by default. This kit includes a rechargeable battery with USB-C charging cable. If you don't mind swapping out batteries this isn't necessary, but if you'd prefer to just recharge your controller this is the way to go. For what it's worth, Xbox has been doing this same concept since the Xbox 360, and in my experience these kits are worth the cost.

- Answer No, you have to leave it in to charge. The charging cable plugs into the controller, not the battery. You can also play without the battery and the cable can power the controller
