Xbox Series S/X controllers use replaceable AA batteries by default. This kit includes a rechargeable battery with USB-C charging cable. If you don't mind swapping out batteries this isn't necessary, but if you'd prefer to just recharge your controller this is the way to go. For what it's worth, Xbox has been doing this same concept since the Xbox 360, and in my experience these kits are worth the cost.

I believe the battery itself is identical to the current batteries being used in Xbox One the only difference is the cable connection this one is USB-C for the new controllers.

By default the controller uses two AA batteries, and this is a rechargeable battery that replaces them. The way you recharge it is by plugging the included USB-C cable into a port on the controller while the other end is plugged into the console. You can keep on playing while it recharges, so it's quite convenient to use.

Similar to the Xbox One...the Xbox Series X controller comes with an "empty" battery area that accepts 2 AA batteries. This allows you to replace the batteries with a rechargeable "brick" in their place. You put it in the battery bay and then plug in the controller to charge it.

Yes this is a charger meant for the new Xbox controllers that utilize USB Type C. If you want to charge your controllers instead of getting batteries then I recommend getting this or other potential third party USB Type C Xbox controller rechargeable batteries

Yes it's the new rechargeable battery pack aka "play & charge kit" for the upcoming Xbox Series X and Series S controllers. Without this, the controllers require 2 AA batteries in order to be operable. If you own some rechargeable AA batteries or have a ton of normal AA batteries at your disposal than purchasing this might not be necessary but for me this is a must buy as I will be gaming and using the Series X controller frequently.

Yes, it is a battery pack that you recharge, xbox controllers never come with permanet batteries, either you have to use double a batteries, or buy a actual battery like this and recharge it with the cord it comes with or any other type c usb cord.
And yes imo it would benefit and save money in the long run.

The controllers originally take 2 AA batteries to work. The play and charge kit allows you to just plug in your controller to a USB C cable and not have to constantly replace batteries. It's definitely worth it

The controllers otherwise come with a slot for two AA batteries. This is a rechargeable battery and the cable to plug it directly into the Xbox to charge (or use) when depleted.
