A:AnswerHello Shel,
Besides the Chromecast Google TV device, is there another source like a physical BluRay/DVD player that is hooked up through the receiver that you can try to play Dolby Digital or DTS? When playing back that source is the Center channel providing you sound?
Thank you

A:AnswerHello Multizone,
Having to many speakers on a one amplifier could potentially put the receiver into protection because of an overload. Try to put space out the speakers on the receiver so it wouldn’t be a to much of a load on one set of terminals.
Thank you,
Onkyo
A:AnswerHello ----
Yes, the TXSR494 can support a CD player. The connections that the TXSR494 supports are analog (rca connections), coaxial and optical digital inputs. It would be suggested to check the player to see what it supports to give you the best quality audio output.

A:AnswerHello Armin,
To be sure, you are mentioning that the speakers are 100 watts at 8 ohms? If the speakers are those specs then yes, the TXSR494 is compatible to work with those speakers. The TXSR494 is rated at 80 watts per channel at 8ohms.
Thank you

A:AnswerHello Tom.
Yes, the TXSR494 does have the ability of connecting your speakers via physical wires. On the rear of the receiver on the right side you have the spring clips (center, rear and heights) and circular binding post(front left and right).

A:AnswerHello Richard,
You can configure the TXSR494 as a 5.1 instead of doing 7.1 receiver. Your configuration would be the Front (2), Center (1) and Surround (2) is your 5.1. The two surround back speakers are 6 or 7.1 configuration.

A:AnswerHello ----
The TXSR494 does have a Vocal button on the remote control( located in between the volume button) that you can adjust the center channels vocals. Depending on the input source or the listening mode the Vocal function may not be available.

A:AnswerHello Humayun
To configure that receiver as a 5.1 the speaker terminals that would need to be use is as follows:
Front(Left and Right)
Center
Surround(Left and Right)
Subwoofer(Subwoofer pre out)
If you would like more information or diagrams you can refer to page 23 for the subwoofer and page 24 for the speaker terminal configuration.
Thank you

A:AnswerHello AZhermit,
The TXSR494 doesn't have the ethernet connection. So in order to perform an update you would have use the USB connection. To obtain the firmware you would have to go to the Onkyo site on the Product Page for the firmware drop down to be able to download the firmware and instructions.
Thank You
