Yes you need WI-FI in order to answer the RING and see who is at your door and talk to them.. otherwise you will have just another ring bell.

Yes it requires WiFi to work. Ring also sells a WiFi range extender indoor chime if signal strength is a concern. The chime offers a variety of tones. Overall, it is a great product that is easy to setup.

The ring 2 will alert your phone before a person actually rings the doorbell when it detects motion and automatically starts recording. You can then look at your alert and choose to talk to them or not. It can be installed using your existing doorbell hardware too and will ding your doorbell once a person pushes the button...

This model only functions via wifi at the 2ghz range. If you have dual wifi of 2ghz and 5ghz, you can only use the 2. Still as long as you have good coverage, its great!
