you should be able to. I read in the reviews listed here that you can do so by pressing certain numbers upon turning on the phone for activation, have not tested that myself. 
Another option is to make an appointment (to insure shorter wait time) at the verizon store for prepaid and get instructions directly from there.

You also might be able to just put your SIM phone from the old verizon prepaid, into the new verizon phone. I will be buying 2, so that my elderly mother can have a backup in case the original breaks, her SIM card can go into the new one and continue service with the same number. I think you still need to call the prepaid number to finish the switch over. 
1. Dial 888-294-6804 from a number other than your prepaid phone.
2. Enter your prepaid phone number. 
3. Press 4 (for questions or to change something),
4. Press 5 (for Store Locations or Billing Questions), 
5. Press 4 (for Customer Service Rep) and then enter your pass code for your account
