The communication technology (Z-Wave, Zigbee) allows the signals to be relayed from one device to the next. You will never need more than one hub. I have a large home and all of the devices work flawlessly. NOTE: The initial setup of a device will need to be done near the hub, like with 20 feet. Once it is connected to the smart network, it will communicate through all other devices to the hub.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I've not had an issue with devices that where 45 feet away from the hub, not sure what the max distance is but it's going to depend on how clear the line of sight is from the hub to the devices. You don't need a 2nd hub to extend, just buy a Samsung smart outlet since it has a built in range extender.
I would recommend:

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, you can not use multiple hubs in the same location.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.depends on a number of factors but generally I've seen it work over a distance of about 50 feet. But it also creates a mesh network which increases the range
