“is it advisable to connect hard drive(external hard disk) to USB port to watch movies”

i tried viewing movies thru a flash drive. that works well. i haven't tried using a portable external hard drive, nor an sd card.

Not if you're driving. Don't think video is capable unless you have the vehicle in park and/or with parking brake on.
