Purchased this 8 months and recently, for 3 months, the product has been acting up. The web interface is slow or more accurately completely unresponsive. Can’t make any settings changes or adjustments. The wifi will simply reset multiple times a day leaving devices disconnected. I have called Arris multiple times and they will not RMA the product they simply have me walk through troubleshooting steps until we magically get disconnected and i have to start over with a new agent. I purchased this while we were building our new home so unfortunately by the time i realized these issues it was past the return date. I will never purchase another Arris product again and at this point am out over 200 dollars and still need to purchase a new modem. Save yourself money and trouble stay away from this device and Arris in general. They used to be a great product but since they were bought it they are terrible. I will never recommend their products again.

After checking online for different products I decided on the Surfboard wifi modem G36. Outstanding results as soon as I connected it up. Noticed the difference in performance immediately. Great buy.

Bought using curbside pick up which proved to be quick and efficient! The modem was easy to set up and works great! Be aware that it does use WPA3 security and is not backward compatible to WPA2. I could not get older printers with WPA2 to connect. wirelessly to internet

G36 Lost Internet Connectivity Randomly and Often

    Posted .

Xfinity dropped support for my older Arris cable modem, and with the G36 being their top-recommended gateway I went for it. It's been frustrating - it just wouldn't work consistently. I hoped that the need to reset almost daily may have been some problem with the particular unit, although Arris support said it was working fine. And Xfinity didn't see any problems on their end. I went back to Best Buy and exchanged the first G36 for another new G36. Same problems - I lost internet connection at random times of the day - this took down my home network, wi-fi, everything. I could only recover by resetting the gateway. Event logs were full of 'Missing Required Option 82' and 'Missing Required Option 24' occurring about every hour. I'm not sure that points to the root problem, but otherwise neither Arris nor Xfinity could find any problems with the G36 or internet service. After trying several tweaks that I saw on line, I could not get the G36 to maintain a steady connection. I saw a review that said the lease time should be set from every hour, to 7 days or forever. I wish I'd seen that sooner and tried it , but, then, I got tired of spending so many hours on the thing. Especially dealing with the rather poor G36 interface. The G36 did work great when it worked. And Wifi speed to my laptop was pretty incredible - as fast as a hardwired connection. I tried to return the G36, but since I took 28 days to try to get it working I was told it was outside the 15-day return period. So, I'm stuck with a $300+ unusable gateway that I don't want to try to sell to anyone else. I bought a Motorola gateway that just works and works. Thank you, Motorola. Bah, Arris G36.
