Putting all my hopes in future updates
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Disliked: - night vision has horrible quality. - Can’t turn off infrared light at night (could help see better inside the cabin) - Can’t see rear of car well. - shows a bright white light in my face all the time while driving & with the car off. Something is not compatible with the Mach E (camera w/infrared on driver side maybe?) - doesn’t look 1080p - interior cabin looks tiny and squeezed - probably wouldn’t be of any help in a rear end accident - makes weird clicking sound after you watch it live Liked: - ring app is great - recordings are mostly constant - $60 x year for 180 days of recordings is great - uploads to ring cloud - no SD card needed - quality of the front camera is good enough - looks beautiful in the car, not bulky - price is great compared to other cams - phone to camera and app connection is the best I’ve tried so far (Insignia, Cobra, Thinkware) - has its own LTE but also uses car’s wifi as backup - no glitching - best buy had no issues installing it on my Mach E - no issues getting it set up for the first time That being said, I’m unsure if I’ll keep it. I want a 3 channel view cam but also hope that Ring can make it better soon.

Posted .Hi MaryCici.
Thank you for sharing this feedback. We are constantly working to improve our products, and we appreciate your feedback as it helps in this process. Car Cam is a security-focused device designed to quickly alert you to event activity and start recording to let you know if there is a disturbance or break-in.
Ring Car Cam offers Live View, local playback quality up to 540p, Cloud Highlights, and downloaded video quality up to 1080p. Car Cam records low-quality and high-quality versions of a file. With Ring Car Cam, you may be able to see other license plates in some cases. When playing back locally stored footage or checking in on your vehicle via Live View, a low-quality version of the video is presented to allow you to quickly preview footage. If a high-quality version is desired, it can be downloaded directly from Ring Car Cam. Video download and sharing is an added feature available through the optional Ring Protect Go subscription. Currently, you can only download 20-second segments of a drive event, which are locally stored on Car Cam.
The cabin-facing camera includes infrared lights (IR) to support night vision. However, the front-facing camera does not have IR lights. This is because when a camera faces a window, in this case the front windshield, the lights will reflect off the glass and back into the camera, making it obscured. We realize that in low-light situations it may be difficult to make out certain scenes, and we are working on future solutions to improve video quality.
Please reach out to use directly at amazon.advocates@cs.ring.com today so that we may discuss your experience in more detail. We are happy to help.
All the best,
Nicole from Ring.

Buyers be aware
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don’t write reviews but gaw dawg. I’ve had this for around 7 months now (booked as a pre order), specifically to catch this raccoon & stray cat that enjoy to sit on my hood. Anytime I catch the little critters I hit panic & they run away. Countless times i’ll randomly check up on the camera & there’s the stray cat, looking right into the camera without the camera ever setting off a motion alert. I completely understand that it’s more of a “security” camera than an actual dash cam. It’s extremely difficult to read license plates so on any shady encounter i’ll read them out loud. The video & audio quality is a solid 5/10. The sticky mount has given up on me twice (i’m on my last sticky mount. I love how easy it is to use although that’s not enough for me to prevent me wanting a refund, I understand that’s out of the question now.

No visible wire after it is installed.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It took about 15 - 20 minutes to install the hardware and 10 minutes to connect it to the app. So far, it is good. The picture is good enough to see what is happening on the road or when the car is parked. However, it is hard to see license plates on other vehicles. Regardless of that, I believe it is the best setup that is available on the market.

Looks better than it works
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a big fan of Ring products but very disappointed with this dash camera. I love the way it connects to the car with the ability to locate and view anywhere, live, in and out of my convertible. However, the quality is not there. I've got 2 other cars with lower cost cameras that capture images so much better. In a serious incident, I don't know if this camera will help.

Q: QuestionI have a Ring Doorbell subscription. Is the Ring Car Cam also covered by the same subscription?
Asked by Junpogi.
- A:Answer Hi Junpogi. Good question. No, your Ring Protect Pro subscription covers Ring alarms and home security cameras in your home. To get coverage for Car Cam, you’ll need to subscribe to Ring Protect Go separately. A Protect Go subscription costs $6 per month (or $60 per year) for each Ring Car Cam. You can try a 30-day trial of Protect Go when you set up a new Ring Car Cam in the Ring app. You won’t be charged for your subscription until your trial is over. At this time, Protect Go and Car Cam are only available for customers in the United States. Q: QuestionHow does the device store video? Does it require a data plan to be able to use while on the road to upload to a cloud or does it have a built-in memory? If a cloud use is required, are there fees associated with using the cloud recording service?
Asked by eljps.
- A:Answer Hi JP. Thanks for asking! Video is automatically stored on the device at no charge and loop records as needed. Ring Car Cam does not require a subscription. Certain features, such as Live View and Two-Way Talk, will be unavailable without Ring Protect Go unless you are connected to your home wifi.Cloud highlights are also only available with Ring Protect Go. With a Ring Protect Go subscription, your videos are stored in the cloud for up to 180 days. You can view, download, or delete your videos from the Ring app. A Ring Protect Go subscription is $6 per month or $60 per year for each individual Ring Car Cam device. Q: QuestionWhat are some of the reasons a vehicle may not be compatible? I was wondering if there was a way to check ourselves. And not have to wait for the list to be updated? Thank You
Asked by Satellite60.
- A:Answer Hi Satellite60. Good question. The Ring Car Cam plugs into your vehicle’s OBD-II port. For safety, only use Car Cam in vehicles where the OBD-II port is on the left side of the steering wheel. The Ring Car Cam is not compatible with OBD-II splitters or pass-throughs. Even if your OBD-II sensor is in a compatible location, there may be other reasons the Ring Car Cam is not compatible with your vehicle. Our support center provides a list of cars that are not compatible with Ring Car Cam and cannot be used with the product. Q: QuestionSince Rng no longer sells a dash cam what is the closest to it? I love our ring.
Asked by Dave.
Q: QuestionWhat if I have a fuel manager already pluged into port? Can I hook it up to anything else?
Asked by AnthonyS82.
- A:Answer Hi AnthonyS82. Thank you for asking. No, the Car Cam cannot be powered using an alternate power source. The Ring Car Cam is powered by connecting to your car’s OBD-II port. Most vehicles built and sold in the U.S. after January 1, 1996, were required to be OBD-II equipped. Q: QuestionMy vehicle is a Ford F-150, and is compatible with the Ring Car Cam, it is connected per the directions, however it only records inside the cab and not on the road driving. What do I need to do to get it to function to where it records on the road?
Asked by Depchief.
- A:Answer Hi Depchief. Great question! Drive events automatically begin recording at the beginning of a drive and are always stored locally. The video clips are defaulted to show the interior-facing camera view upon opening. To change the view to the forward-facing camera, click the camera icon at the top right of the screen while playing the clip.
