Customers admire the camera's quality and ease of use, with many praising its straightforward installation process and wide-angle view. Disliked: - night vision has horrible quality. - Can’t turn off infrared light at night (could help see better inside the cabin) - Can’t see rear of car well. - shows a bright white light in my face all the time while driving & with the car off. Something is not compatible with the Mach E (camera w/infrared on driver side maybe?) - doesn’t look 1080p - interior cabin looks tiny and squeezed - probably wouldn’t be of any help in a rear end accident - makes weird clicking sound after you watch it live Liked: - ring app is great - recordings are mostly constant - $60 x year for 180 days of recordings is great - uploads to ring cloud - no SD card needed - quality of the front camera is good enough - looks beautiful in the car, not bulky - price is great compared to other cams - phone to camera and app connection is the best I’ve tried so far (Insignia, Cobra, Thinkware) - has its own LTE but also uses car’s wifi as backup - no glitching - best buy had no issues installing it on my Mach E - no issues getting it set up for the first time That being said, I’m unsure if I’ll keep it. I want a 3 channel view cam but also hope that Ring can make it better soon.

      Hi MaryCici.

Thank you for sharing this feedback. We are constantly working to improve our products, and we appreciate your feedback as it helps in this process. Car Cam is a security-focused device designed to quickly alert you to event activity and start recording to let you know if there is a disturbance or break-in.

Ring Car Cam offers Live View, local playback quality up to 540p, Cloud Highlights, and downloaded video quality up to 1080p. Car Cam records low-quality and high-quality versions of a file. With Ring Car Cam, you may be able to see other license plates in some cases. When playing back locally stored footage or checking in on your vehicle via Live View, a low-quality version of the video is presented to allow you to quickly preview footage. If a high-quality version is desired, it can be downloaded directly from Ring Car Cam. Video download and sharing is an added feature available through the optional Ring Protect Go subscription. Currently, you can only download 20-second segments of a drive event, which are locally stored on Car Cam.

The cabin-facing camera includes infrared lights (IR) to support night vision. However, the front-facing camera does not have IR lights. This is because when a camera faces a window, in this case the front windshield, the lights will reflect off the glass and back into the camera, making it obscured. We realize that in low-light situations it may be difficult to make out certain scenes, and we are working on future solutions to improve video quality.

Please reach out to use directly at [email protected] today so that we may discuss your experience in more detail. We are happy to help.

      All the best,
      Nicole from Ring. Ring

It took about 15 - 20 minutes to install the hardware and 10 minutes to connect it to the app. So far, it is good. The picture is good enough to see what is happening on the road or when the car is parked. However, it is hard to see license plates on other vehicles. Regardless of that, I believe it is the best setup that is available on the market.

I don’t write reviews but gaw dawg. I’ve had this for around 7 months now (booked as a pre order), specifically to catch this raccoon & stray cat that enjoy to sit on my hood. Anytime I catch the little critters I hit panic & they run away. Countless times i’ll randomly check up on the camera & there’s the stray cat, looking right into the camera without the camera ever setting off a motion alert. I completely understand that it’s more of a “security” camera than an actual dash cam. It’s extremely difficult to read license plates so on any shady encounter i’ll read them out loud. The video & audio quality is a solid 5/10. The sticky mount has given up on me twice (i’m on my last sticky mount. I love how easy it is to use although that’s not enough for me to prevent me wanting a refund, I understand that’s out of the question now.

      Hi sebastian.

Thank you for sharing your feedback on the Ring Car Cam.

It sounds like your device may be shutting down to conserve your car's battery. Car Cam has a power management system that will turn itself off in advance of ever depleting the vehicle's battery. When your vehicle is parked, Ring Car Cam goes into a low-power monitoring mode. After a drive, Car Cam may turn off once it detects a certain vehicle battery level in order to ensure you’re able to start your vehicle. The device will turn back on once the vehicle is started. To control how long Car Cam stays active between drives, you can change the Vehicle Battery Usage setting in the Ring app. This setting allows you to determine how soon Car Cam shuts off based on your driving behavior, battery age, and environment. Ring does not recommend you use Car Cam if your vehicle's battery is past its service life.

Here are a few battery life tips:
      • Vehicles need to be driven at highway speeds now and then to keep the battery charged.
      • If Car Cam turns off too quickly, raise its Vehicle Battery Usage setting.
      • If the vehicle won’t be used for a while, unplug accessories like Car Cam to protect its battery.

I'm a big fan of Ring products but very disappointed with this dash camera. I love the way it connects to the car with the ability to locate and view anywhere, live, in and out of my convertible. However, the quality is not there. I've got 2 other cars with lower cost cameras that capture images so much better. In a serious incident, I don't know if this camera will help.

Pretty good camera for what it is,once you figure out the correct settings ,cons it’s not a security camera so don’t expect that it’s a dash cam first! My problem with it is that sometimes after a long ride I will park the car and the camera 10 mins later will shut off to conserve battery my battery is good and new sometimes it does it sometimes it don’t! Overall it’s a good product and I recommend it

Great Security Car Cam, not dashcam

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is a great SECURITY CAMERA to have. You can see what is happening while parked which many dash cams do NOT have that feature. Simply tap in while in the mall and see what’s going on. ANY VIBRATIONS or sudden MOVEMENTS to the vechile it will alert you. I took one star out as I thought it would detect anyone person close to car, but not until the cam senses movements but still it’s a good SECURITY CAMERA. The name should have been “Ring Car Security Cam” not dash cam. It does lack some clarity and license plate reading, while moving it does get blurry as it’s trying to focus on the object. I’ll get a dash cam for that but overall I am at ease while my vehicle is parked! I have a Jeep Wrangler so the windshield is not slanted like ordinary cars, so I decided to use this magnetic mount from bulletpoint mounting solutions and it works wonderfully.price should NOT be $249. It should be $99 due to its quality and having to lay a year $60 to have this security camera.Ring should also have the option to add to OBD PORT OR C PORT ON portable battery pack. This does not, it HAS TO be plugged into the vehicle the or it WON’T work. Video quality needs to be improved , see pictures it gets blurry when cars are shown. Otherwise I do recommend to be able to tap in any time any where.

I have a convertible with 2 vandalisms (window smash and grab and slice soft top) to it in office garage in last 9 months. Bought this Ring car camera as deterrent and potential evidentiary medium for vandals and would-be vandals. Interior camera is wide angle and captures entire interior of car and outside surrounding area visible through side and rear windows from interior, as well as a portion of the front window above the camera. It was easy to install, relatively small and unobtrusive and, so far, performs exactly as I had hoped for my intended purposes. I don't use it at all for the forward-facing camera, but the quality of that picture when I have viewed it appears fine. I would recommend it to others who are intending it primarily for the same purposes as I mine. Only suggestion would be to make the top light on the camera flash more regularly to improve its deterrent effect on would-be vandals.

Its a ring, so the app works like you would expect. The video quality is not what you want, especially when you need license plate info. The camera simply does not pick it up. I wish it had a rear camera. The cab camera is ok. You cant see someone coming up on you, so if you were to need it you would be sol. The night vision sucks. If you get a notification thats cool and all but you cant see what is going on because of the quality. The camera turns off to conserve battery life. So there is a lapse in protection due to the camera not functioning. It takes five or more voice commands to get alexa to start the traffic stop recording feature. The audio isnt great but to be expected when the camera is in the vehicle. I do like that it flashes periodically. Hopefully it acts as a deterrent. Ive had a Garmen dash cam that wasnt great also, this definitely beats it. Ive also used my gopro as a dash cam and that came with its own issues. Ill keep searching for the best dash cam. This sadly isnt it.

The ring cam is a good first production model in the car cam space. First the install is the easisest of any dash cam installation as I have installed many over the years. The live view with the LTE connection is a really nice feature. The only real down side is the installation location is not the best. Especially for people that want tye camera hidden from view. Overallits a decent camera that has some cool features.

Easy to install and easy to use. Trying to get the perfect settings set is a bit of a pain, but that is more of a personal issue and not an actual issue with the camera. It did take a bit to get used to having a camera in the middle of my windshield, but now I forget it’s there. If you are on the fence……give it a go. It may not be for everyone, but maybe with some tinkering you could get used to it. I love my ring ecosystem.

Way too grainy and not enough clarity in its video definition, looks less than 720p. There are zero license plates to be read on this so if you get hit and the other car is going to take off then you better read out the other vehicles license plate and descriptors for the audio recording. For the interior cam, I can even make out the facial features to my rear passengers. The fish eye rear view will easily show someone standing at your drivers window or passenger window. The cloud recording, 24/7 recording of your vehicle especially while you’re shopping, potential for gps, still have me interested. But, I still haven’t figured out how to locate my vehicle through its gps features yet, so it could be more user friendly. I downloaded the front and rear camera recordings and the definition did NOT get any better, still can’t read license plates and reading those huge overhead freeway signs are difficult to read as they are heavily pixelated. And downloading videos are proving to be a little tricky because it will only download small segments, I still need to figure out how to download longer segments and specifically how to pinpoint what time frames that I want to download, but there’s instruction on how to do this (yet?) Hopefully this advances and its features are made known how to access easier. If you already have a dashcam on your car, you better keep in place for a little while longer because mine at 1080p are far superior in recording definition and it’s easier to pull recordings as those segments run for 10 minutes at time versus the 21 seconds a piece this Ring is offering so far. I’m still trying to figure out how to get the “Alexa Record” feature to work, I’m on day #2 with this so far. Maybe some YouTubers will help out when they post videos about theirs and how to work it, but there’s no literature to cover anything in the instructions. It’s new, I’m disappointed, but still hopeful this will get better. It was super easy to install, easier than my 3 prior dashcams.

Currently, you can only download 20-second segments of a drive event, which are locally stored on Car Cam. Here's how to select a specific segment to download:

      • Open the desired drive event (or select it on your Event Timeline).
      • Select the start location of the clip.
      • Click More (...) » Download » Agree & Continue » Wait for video to process.

Your video will be processed, and the Ring app will notify you when the clip is ready for download.

With Traffic Stop, the feature is turned off by default. To enable the feature, select the Traffic Stop tile in the Ring app and toggle it on. Once enabled, just say "Alexa, record." to begin recording a critical event.

We appreciate your input, and we are working on additional improvements to video quality that we'll release in upcoming over-the-air software updates.

Please reach out to us directly anytime, so we may assist you further at [email protected]. We are happy to help.

      Thank you,
      Alexis with Ring Ring

I’ve been using the Ring Car Cam for a few weeks now, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite additions to my vehicle. With dual-facing 1080p HD cameras—one capturing the road ahead and the other monitoring the cabin—it offers a solid layer of protection whether I’m driving or parked. The setup was surprisingly simple. It mounts discreetly between the dashboard and windshield, and the connection to the OBD-II port means it stays powered even when the car is off. The video quality is crisp, and the wide-angle lenses ensure nothing important gets missed. I especially appreciate the privacy shutter that disables the interior camera and mic when needed—smart and respectful. What really sets it apart is the integration with the Ring app. I get real-time alerts, can view live footage remotely, and even use two-way talk if someone’s in the car. The LTE connectivity (with a subscription) adds a layer of always-on access that’s hard to beat. That said, the price is on the higher side, and many of the best features—like cloud storage and LTE access—require a subscription. Still, for anyone already in the Ring ecosystem or looking for a reliable, connected dash cam, this one checks a lot of boxes.
