Q: QuestionWhat specific ram do I need in order to upgrade to 16GB of memory?(2 answers)
A: AnswerYou can use Crucial memory. I know that works. The spec is DDR4 3200 SODIMM. You can confirm this using the Crucial site and plugging in this ASUS model. You would replace the removeable 4GB with an 8GB. The system max is 16GB and there is 8GB soldered on board so just use the 8GB to replace the 4GB. By the way there is a piece of protective tape on the 4GB chip, so remove that and put the tape on your new 8GB chip and then install it.Answered by ralph373
- A: AnswerNot OLED. I think the confusion is that some models of the Vivobook 16 are OLED and cost more. This one is LED and I tested the colors and they are fantastic anyway.
Answered by ralph373
- A: Answeryou can not download anything that does not come from the Micro soft store. This is called the S-mode. It's suppose to be a security feature. But it can be turn off to allow installation of non MS software.

A: AnswerYou can replace the 4GB memory with an 8GB memory DDR4 3200 SODIMM. You could also upgrade the SSD. Note this SSD is not a 2.5 form factor but rather an M.2 type. By the way ASUS will not warranty the new parts of course.Answered by ralph373

Overall Decent to Great Quality
This laptop is perfect for me and overall a decent mid-range laptop. - Display: The display is fine; not great but also not bad! The resolution is decent for watching things like 1080p Youtube videos. Although, I will say that when I first got my Vivobook I was concerned because I noticed that the contrast on Youtube videos was too high, plus it was overall a bit off. I found a solution to this, though, by using the MyASUS App to alter the colors & settings. I did not know that that app existed, so I was pleasantly surprised. The screen itself has a matte finish that I like because the glare of the sun doesn't cause unwanted reflections unlike my previous glass screen laptop. The viewing angles are okay. Lastly, the screen gets pretty bright. I have nothing great to compare it to, though, since my previous laptop was around 250-300 nitts anyway. - RAM: It has more memory than my last computer (8gb vs 12gb) which definitely makes a difference for someone like me who always has at least 6+ tabs & 2 windows open. Also, it doesn't seem slow at least to me. - Keyboard & Trackpad: The keyboard feels great to me. Has a good springy-ness to it and doesn't feel cheap. It is also spaced out well *for the most part*. However, the number pad on the right is way too small which discourages me from using it. Lastly, the arrow keys are very small which discourages me to use those as well. The touchpad also is decent. Feels smooth and mostly responsive, with it responding a bit slow every now and then. Also, there was this weird thing where if you clicked the bottom of the touchpad to do a left click, it would act as a right click. Very odd, but hasn't happened in a couple days so maybe I just needed to update some stuff. - CPU: The AMD Ryzen 7 5800HS works almost perfectly! I don't do demanding tasks on my laptop such as 3D modelling, coding, or play AAA games, so it works amazingly for my simpler tasks. What I can attest to is it being able to load my 80+ page Word Document and copy & paste 1000+ cells into Excell very quickly lol. Plus, I usually have 2 windows open. On the off times that it works very slowly, I hesitate to blame it on the CPU because my wifi in general sucks and I'm often using browser apps. ;P - Chassis: The build quality is decent. It doesn't feel like it's going to break and actually feels quite sturdy, BUT I did accidentally knee the left side of the display hinge and it detached slightly... thankfully it was an easy push-back-together fix, but I briefly worried that I already broke my new laptop haha. So, my guess is that overall it won't stop working if you drop it, but try your best not to because the chassis is still plastic - and not as durable as Lenovo's. I worry the most about the hinge! Lastly, this laptop is a behemoth at 16", so be aware that it may not fit in your school bag. - Camera & Microphone: The cameras pretty good. Decent quality image for a laptop. (Laptop cameras in general are not the best so I won't fault this Vivobook's grainy quality. In fact, it might be a little better than my Lenovo Ideapad 14IAU7's, but I'm not sure and can't check.) The mic isn't that good, but it gets the job done for any Zoom meeting. You'll sound a little crunchy, but they'll be able to understand you just fine. - Speakers: Lastly, the speakers sometimes work very well and other times are just awful. I believe this is mostly dependent on the video's audio quality, but the speakers also just don't get very loud when you need them to be. Add this to the fact that they are on the bottom of the laptop, and it makes it even worse because you then have to lift the laptop to hear quiet videos. So, the speakers don't get very loud and personally I don't like the placement. Besides this, the sound quality is alright. It doesn't sound too tinny and the bass is decent, at least to me. Sound works on left, right, and can come through in the middle (I think? I'm not great at speaker review). - Battery & Charging: The battery lasts a lot longer than I expected! I saw other reviews on here saying theirs only lasted 2-3 hours which scared me, but I can say that my battery lasted about 6+ hours of near-constant usage on LOW brightness. So, if you're the type of person that does full brightness, it'll probably only last the reported 4 hours. The good thing is that it charges very quickly! Unfortunately, I didn't time how long it typically takes before writing this review. Lastly, the charger is in two parts, with the middle having this 3"x3" length & 1" wide cube. So, that part is bulky. But personally I prefer that this part is bulky and have the actual plugin that connects to the outlet be a regular 1" 3-pronged plug. The charger is also very long which is great. In summary, the Vivobook 16 is a real catch on sale and I can attest that it works perfectly for light college work. Some things such as the speakers may be sub-par, but nothing is outright bad. I would highly recommend buying this *on Sale* (below $700)

Meets my everyday purposes quite well
First up it's a pretty decent machine for everyday use (non-working purposes). Haven't really tried to leverage the graphical power of the machine yet (whatever it might be), but otherwise a very good machine with good boot speed and response times. It's also very handy, lightweight and pretty easy to carry around when traveling (very convenient especially for flights & airports instead of using a tab - including the charger). Pros: - Lightweight and fast enough to run multiple browser tabs and windows at the same time (majority of my use) - Application start-up and system boot times are pretty good for a Windows machine (I know! :)) - Holds charge quite well (probably 2-3 hours even with good usage level) Things I'm not a fan of: - The body is pretty flimsy (fully plastic and opening the lid can be a bit of an ordeal sometimes initially if you're used to other sturdy machines). But if we think about the ease of carrying it around, it makes sense to me that it's designed this way. You need to make sure to consider this point depending on the nature of usage. - Keyboard seems a little outside of my expectations for a 16 inch display/tray. Especially with how the ' . ' and 'Del' keys have been swapped and the lack of Num /Caps Lock indicator LED on the tray (it's hidden somwhere on the side for no clear reason). - Despite above cons, this might have been a great laptop if it was touch screen..falls a bit short of expectations here too.
