No network adapter is a huge disappointment
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I didn't realize it doesn't have a hookup for a network cable of which i needed to hook up my wifi AP. Thank goodness I still gave my old laptop to accomplish it. Not sure what to do in the future if my old laptop dies. I also didnt realize there was no cd drive which i also still use. I could have lived with the cd player but when my wifi died there is no getting around that missing in this laptop. Other than that I kinda wish I opted for the backlit keyboard. That one is on me totally. Otherwise I really like the speed and graphics and all on it

Would Buy Again!

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:DisplayI couldn't have asked for a better laptop. The screen is massive, the silver metal is cool to the touch and appears both professional and aesthetic. The camera quality is insane compared to my last ASUS, and the sound quality is out of this world! I mainly use my ASUS VivoBook for internet browsing, YouTube streaming, writing, and playing the Sims 4. It takes everything I ask of it in stride. Tl;dr: I love this laptop! (My roommate is going to buy the same laptop.)

ASUS - Vivobook 17.3" Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7 - 12GB
|Posted .Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Overall the ASUS - Vivobook 17.3" Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7 - 12GB , does what I wanted it for; internet machine, run/input code, and move simple files from machine to machine. I have a more powerful machine for videos, editing, and moving "big" files. Being a laptop it fulfills the "portability" that I need. I am slightly disappointed about the lack of IPS for the display (110 degree); I do use a dual screen though. Retail $800 minus holiday discount $200, still no "IPS display". Glad it is 17.3 inch. Great speed, solid build, LED display = low power use. Still a good purchase; its what I needed.

New Laptop for an Old Lady
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I bought this for my mother to replace her 10-year-old HP. She's a lovely woman, and relatively smart for an 80 year old woman. College degree from U of Wi, etc. But she's absolutely clueless when it comes to some things, and computers are one of those things. She's been using a computer for 25 years, and she doesn't understand how to save something to a file, or how to go into files to look for something. If she gets a picture emailed to her, that picture lives in that email forever. It's alarming how clueless she is, for a relatively intelligent person. She can do absolutely nothing except for look at websites, play a few online games, read and send email. But she does her own taxes every year on Turbo Tax! She's smart about that. She definitely knows how to navigate US tax code. But then she'll "accidentally" sign up for amazon prime, or she'll "accidentally" delete an icon from Desktop, etc. Whenever I visit her, I have a list of things to "fix" on her computer. And I do it without complaint, and without showing any outward signs of frustration. Because really, I'm not frustrated. She's just a nice person, and she's my mom. This new computer is working out great for her. The 17.3" monitor is her favorite. She doesn't detect the speed advantage of the SSD, but it's there. Her only complaint, a complaint which I share by the way, is that the letter markings on the keys are very low contrast. And they're not backlit. So depending on the lighting in the room, sometimes the markings are almost invisible. That's a big demerit. I'm not sure how the designers could overlook such a glaring flaw. (Pun definitely intended.) Thanks for all the brownies, mom. We'll be visiting again real soon.

GOOD ASUS GAMING LAPTOP WITH LAPTOP RATINGS
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5Very good laptop and very light at 5.07 lbs. which is slim and light for a 17.3" laptop. I had a Lenovo Gaming Laptop 3 years ago and it weighed 10 lbs., but had all the bells and whistles. ASUS and DELL laptops are rated 1 and 2 overall. See ratings below. I also own a DELL which I bought from Best Buy a little over a year ago-great Gaming Laptop. I would have liked to have backlit keys on the ASUS. Does not cost much to have that. And the price I paid for the ASUS was great. Some reviews on Laptops: https://www.laptopmag.com/features/laptop-brand-ratings The next time I buy a Gaming Laptop I will be looking for 1TB SSD and 16GB on the Memory. Must be 17.3"

Meh
|Posted .Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality3 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use2 out of 5Pros mentioned:PriceCons mentioned:Ease of use, Keys, SilverThe person who designed this keyboard needs to be fired. Who in the heck thought of silver letters on silver keys is a complete idiot. I had to buy a USB light so I can see what I'm typing since it's a new keyboard. The bios is about as useless as they come. You can change very little you can't really enable or disable anything and adding a new boot device is much more complicated than necessary. I really don't understand why there are USB 2,0 ports connected to a USB 3.1 bus. WHy are there 2,0 connects at all? There;s another you'll have to buy is a powered USB 3,0 hub, I needed to use my USB to Ethernet adapter which was running hot from direct connection, I used this device for about a week before I decided to keep it since my old HP was starting to fail. The one good thing is the surprisingly good performance of the Kingston SSD. It's not a bad computer for the price but there's these inexplicable design and hardware features that don't make any sense. If you're not a hardware person you'll do fine. If you are you'll be scratching your head. To those who think you can't upgrade the RAM you're wrong. You can. Look it up. There's also space for another drive but no way to connect it....It will cost you more but it about adequate for the average user,

Works well
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendIt's fine for what I need. Set up was very easy. I love the large screen. My major complaint is the silver lettering on the silver keys. Might have been better if the keyboard was back lit.

Q: QuestionDoes this laptop has a fingerprint reader to login?
Asked by Maurice.
- A:Answer That's odd that ASUS would say there is a fingerprint reader. For the model shown here there is not. There is another model similar to this one that does have one. THIA MODEL DOES NOT. The fingerprint reader would be visible as a small square in the upper right corner of the mousepad. There are dongles for them though I;ve never used one, If you are concerned about security there are USB keys that can be purchased. If best Buy has them their search is too dumb to find them. Here are some amazon search results that show what I mean as well as some fingerprint dongles. Don't know if they'll let that link through so just search for: usb+security+key+for+windows+10 https://smile.amazon.com/s?k=usb+security+key+for+windows+10&crid=3SPQQIX4SW3KK&sprefix=USB+security+%a2Caps%2C219&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-a-p_7_13
