Good Printer

Quality5 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5Since I bought this printer it has been working well for me. It connects wirelessly and end product is superb. The only problem I have with it is that at times, it is a struggle to get my MacBook Pro to connect to the printer wirelessly whereas my devices like iPhone and iPad connect easily. I am still trying to figure out what could be the problem. Apart from that, it does precisely what it supposed to do.

NICE PRINTER (VERY FIRST IMPRESSION)
|Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality4 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5Pros mentioned:Print quality, Set upCons mentioned:Toner**Disclaimer - We've only had this printer for a week, thus I can only explain the pre-purchase thought process along with initial printer setup. I'll update this in the future with whatever good or bad news I have to add. Once I decided to replace our old Epson inkjet printer with a color laser I figured THAT decision alone was the biggest mental hurdle to overcome - until I started researching and comparing color laser printers (trying to find the best choice / best price was tough). One example: Printer "A" says it supports mobile printing from a phone or tablet but doesn't actually say "Air Print", while, Printer "B" claims the same but adds "via our printer app" Both required digging/searching the mfg. website(s) for verification (This is a big deal for us because we've bought Wi-Fi printers previously that were a pain-in-the butt to print from an iPhone/Pad using a mfg. App and wanted to avoid having those same issues after buying an expensive printer. The purchase price was also important, and unless it's a major Holiday or similar sales event (Black Friday) try an hold off from buying one so you can save $100 (or more). Toner cost is/was not a huge selling point for us. We've always had a printer in the house for personal use and depending on what we had going on it was possible we wouldn't need to print more than 0-10 pages per month. Low printing volume was always an issue with inkjet printers, having the nozzles bugger up & causing wasted ink & paper running the mfg. head/nozzle cleaning utilities. I don't for see looking for replacement ink for at least another year. What did matter was whether or not it was possible to print something if only one cartridge was out of ink/toner, and according to Canon support it will still print (with varying quality). So a $10 +/- price difference between mfg branded toner wasn't enough to sway us either way when deciding what to buy. Main "wants": 1. Laser Printer 2. Color (not monochrome) 3. Document scanner (via feeder AND flatbed) 4. Wi-fi 5. Air Print 6. Duplex printing 7. Reasonable sales price This model has everything we wanted and after comparing brands and reading a lot of reviews (here and elsewhere on the web), we pulled the trigger and bought this printer. From-the-box-to-first-print: This is a heavy printer (60+ lbs) and this weight was the only issue I had while deciding what printer to buy. Several competitors had models that weighed less than 50lbs. but did not meet other expectations. Once again - it's HEAVY, so make sure you have a strong cabinet/desk to place it. We lugged the box over to the printer stand and began the unwrapping. The whole process was super smooth, taking only about 5-10 minutes from start to finish. Everything was preinstalled (toner / rollers / tray / etc.) so all I had to do was pull all the packing tape off/in the printer, plug it in, and turn the power ON. Wireless setup was a breeze. I configured it via the control panel and had it printing through our home network in under 10 minutes. Printing via an Apple device was seamless, as was setting the printer up on our Win10 computers. I sometimes scan old radio magazine / catalog’s so I was interested to see how easy it was to use the flatbed scanner function. It worked great. I scanned from the printer directly to my PC and it created a folder under Documents and stored the scans there. There you have it (for now). I’m staring this off with a 4-star review and will update it “down the road” after we’ve used it for 6 months or so.

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:PriceI was dreading getting a printer clunky slow expensive toners but due to covid19 and working from home I had no other alternative. It was the more affordable a little on the larger side but works great via wifi. I have it on a small night stand that matches my decor.

Happy thus far for 330 bucks...

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use3 out of 5Can't speak to functionality (fax, scan, email), only to print quality. It's excellent. Can speak to set up, though. It's needlessly complicated because no one really lays it out for you what needs to be done. We are an Apple (OS and iOS) and Chromebook home. Can only speak to set up of those two worlds, but here it goes. Printer comes with Google Cloud printing (for Chromebook) and AirPrint enabled, by default. That's good. Macs: Download print/fax/scan drivers (one of each) from CanonUsa. Install on each Mac you want to print from. Go to system pref, Printers/Scanners, and add the 743 you see that says "Kind: CNMF741c/743c-Airprint". And that's it. You don't need to enable "Share this printer on the network." Macs and iOS devices should all see this printer ready to go whether they choose to print or airprint (mobile). Chromebooks: Add this as a google cloud printer, for now. Google stops supporting this end of year, at which time there will be direct connectivity options. But for now, they're appear to be none (to my knowledge.). The first two recommended to me by Tier 1 Canon support do not work. Tier 2 then told me to use Google Cloud only for now. That's about it. Mine is ethernet wired to the router that all these devices talk to. That's preferred over a wifi connection between printer and router, if you can swing it

Q: QuestionNo photo capabilities are listed for this printer. What does it mean ?
Asked by Leo.
- A:Answer I've had laser printers before. You can't print on photo paper. I haven't tried it on this one, but won't take the chance. The laser toner doesn't adhere to photo paper, so the toner goes all over the inside of the printer if you do use it. Photo paper works with ink jets and it worked with my wax cube xerox printer.
