You can use wired or wireless

It might also help if you delete any of the CarPlay indicators in bluetooth connections. I believe some receivers will also default to the wired connection if you start the vehicle with your iPhone plugged in, though you would want to double check with the receiver's manufacturer to verify. If your receiver defaults to the wired connection if the car is started with the phone plugged in, that might be a reasonable workaround to be able to keep the wireless CarPlay on tap without having to go through the process of pairing again. e.g., start the car with the phone unplugged for wireless CarPlay and plugged in for wired CarPlay
