A:AnswerI'm answering my own question - I was able to hook up his headphones to our satellite receiver audio outs and get sound for him and I can still control my volume through the receiver. Since we do the majority of our TV watching via the satellite, it works out great.
A:AnswerNot true at all. I actually hadn't tried this yet, as I've been jamming to local radio stations ,but as soon as I read your question, I put in a CD into my CD/DVD player and I'm currently jamming out to Led Zep WITHOUT the tv being on. I ran my audio out from my cd/dvd player into the BD/DVD audio input into the receiver and everything's working great...and the tv is OFF.
A:AnswerJimbo, I had 5 speakers (8 ohm) from a recent lightning damaged system that I hooked up to this receiver and it powers them very well, no problems. I used the front left, center, front right, and left and right surround connections and subwoofer. My old speakers are the Bose cube speakers that came with two small speakers connected together, one on top of the other and able to swivel in the center. My receiver signals now come from a Sony TV. It is loud enough that my wife came to check on what happened to our house when watching an action movie.
A:AnswerEven if I just use the AVR remote to turn on Bluetooth, CD or FM, it still turns on the TV. This was problematic when I was away on vacation, we must have lost power, our Echo dot restarted which automatically connected it to the bluetooth on the receiver which then turned the tv on and it remained on the rest of the vacation time till I got home.
A:AnswerHi Fanoftennis, It does provide you with the option to adjust the level of each speaker. Kindly refer to page 38 of this link for more information:

A:AnswerThe remote is a standard IR (infrared) remote and cannot work through a wood door. You could buy a Harmony remote that would allow you to put it inside a cabinet and control it.
A:AnswerYES! As long as you have an HDMI ARC connection on your TV connected to the Sony STR-DH590 HDMI ARC OUT connection everything, repeat everything and all apps that you could play through your TV speakers regardless of weather these apps are in your TV or on a Roku, Fire TV, HDMI inputs, etc. they will now ALL go through your surround sound system.
A:AnswerHi BBNickname,
Thanks for your question. The STR-DH590 supports HDR (HDR10, Hybrid LogGamma, Dolby Vision) and 4K at 60Hz passthrough, but not support 4K 120Hz. If you have a 4K 120 Hz capable TV, we recommend connecting your AV device directly to the TV then connect your TV to this receiver via HDMI ARC or optical connection.
If 4K at 120 Hz is your priority, you might also consider checking our STR-AN1000, STR-AZ1000ES, STR-AZ3000ES, STR-AZ5000ES, and STR-AZ7000ES. They offer support for 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz timings passthrough. I hope this helps.

Jess
A:AnswerI hooked this receiver up to some homemade speakers i hung in the garage tan added two realistic bookshelf speakers on another wall... Sounds great. Soon im going to add a subwoofer... Lots of speaker options...
A:AnswerHi Paul,
Thank you for the inquiry! For speakers compatibility, we based it using ohms. When matching speakers and Audio/Video (A/V) receivers, the ohm rating of the speaker should be equal to or greater than the ohm rating of the receiver to avoid a risk of hardware damage. Any speakers that feature bare wire connection will work to this receiver, as long as their impedances are from 6 to 16 ohms.
Equipped with 4 HDMI inputs, HDCP 2.2 signal handling, and a host of advanced features the STRDH590 is the perfect combination of high performance video capability and superb Sonic fidelity. High-Resolution Audio compatible.
Regards,
David

A:AnswerHi Bilt4sin,
Thank you for the inquiry! Unfortunately, the HDMI of the AV receiver is not 2.1 but it can support 4K HDR, Dolby Vision compatibility with HDCP 2.2 support.

David
A:AnswerHi John,
Thank you for the inquiry! You can connect up to 4 HDMI devices to the AV receiver. If your TV supports HDMI ARC, there's no need to connect optical cable since HDMI ARC output both audio and video. However, if your TV doesn't support HDMI ARC, you need two connections. HDMI cable for video and optical cable for audio.

David
A:AnswerYeah! Most streaming services offer 5.1 surround by default! It is up to you to decide which setting on this AV receiver sounds best to you while streaming. I am still an entry level enjoyer of Dolby tech myself, but I prefer the pure direct sound pre-set you can select on the remote included for this unit.
