“I have read the following on a different site, is this true?: If you are using a dvd player to play cd's you can't play the CD through this system without turning on the tv.”

Not true at all. I actually hadn't tried this yet, as I've been jamming to local radio stations ,but as soon as I read your question, I put in a CD into my CD/DVD player and I'm currently jamming out to Led Zep WITHOUT the tv being on. I ran my audio out from my cd/dvd player into the BD/DVD audio input into the receiver and everything's working great...and the tv is OFF.
