QuestionDoes this come with any recovery software?

- Answer Yes. WD's back up software is pre-installed on the drive and it's already formatted NTFS, so pretty much all modern Windows machines will recognize it. If you are a MacOS user, WD has instructions on how to format it to something MacOS will recognize.

QuestionI just got a couple of these and they are running between 45 and 52 degrees C which is in the Yellow to Red Zone according to Hard Disk Sentinel. Should I be worried?

- Answer Mine always run in the yellow and red. Very normal. HD Sentinel has a temperature calibration feature you can use to adjust according to manufacturers safety temps.

- Answer Yes, can be removed from case and installed internally as a standard SATA drive. For NAS software, look into TrueNAS if you want redundancy for storage and backup, or UnRAID if you're just looking for bulk storage.

- Answer Probably not, according to Amazon they only recommend 3 external hard drive models. I took this from the FAQ section of the FireTV Recast. Which external hard drives are compatible with Fire TV Recast? Amazon has tested and currently recommends three external hard drive models. They are: Seagate Fast SSD 250GB Toshiba Canvio for Desktop 3TB WD 2TB Elements Portable External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 Compatibility or performance with other hard drives isn’t guaranteed.

- Answer I typically remove the partion and do a straight linux partition. But you can mount these type of drives on a Linux system by specifying the disk format in the mount command. For instance mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /mnt/d mount -t ntfs /dev/sdb1 /mnt/d The first for a fat formated filesystem The second for a NTFS filesystem
