This is coming from someone who has been playing Destiny since the alpha. Yes, Destiny had it's flaws. I'll admit that the game isn't for some people. But what I will say is that this game has a lot to offer for people who will utilize it's content to its fullest potential. How is the PVP? Solid. How are the Raids? Incredible! Story....eh not so much, but they are working on it. If there is one thing I can say for certain it's that Bungie is truly listening to it's players and makes (almost) weekly updates to the game to make sure that it is the best it can be for it's players. With the 2.0 update and this Expansion, the game has changed DRASTICALLY from the way it used to play. Grinding for gear just to level up is gone. It's all XP based now. It uses Item Level just like any other MMO. The UI made major changes so quests and bounties are organized, easy to do, and can be finished from the menu. Why am I saying all this? Because if you haven't played Destiny, or maybe you have but you gave it up, The Taken King is your reason to get back into it, or into it for the first time. This is Year 2 and boy is it different. ( By all means don't just take my word for it, or the word of some other person who is sour about not getting his Ghall. Do some research yourself and look at all of the new changes being made, then come up to your own conclusion. Watch some streamers or check out youtube videos to see the new content in action.)

A fun but flawed MMO FPS Shooter

I first played Destiny when they released their open beta years ago and I really enjoyed it, but when the game was actually released I only heard negative to mediocre reviews about the lack of story and unpredictable, inconsistent loot system. After The Taken King dlc came out though, I heard it was the content that revived Destiny and I grew interested again. So I played the demo again and decided to buy the game. While TTK does improve on Destiny's story, add more cutscenes (but really only to the taken king missions), add more activities, and from what I've heard improved the loot system. That being said, the story is still pretty lean, the loot system is still weird (like being the highest performing player on your strike team but not getting anything after the mission), and there's still no matchmaking for Raids which require 6 people to complete. There are communities, websites, and apps to find other players to help find raid parties, however it's kinda sad that the Destiny community needs to do Bungie's job for them. It's not all bad though, there are a lot of grear points of Deating that make it well worth your time. Gameplay is amazing; music, sound effects, and graphics are incredible; I like customizing my guardian and have fun using the different subclasses, and the story though very barebones is still passable and opens to really cool lore, which you can learn more about if you read the Grimoire (codex that can be found through the game and viewed on Bungie's website or Destiny's app). Overall, I think Destiny is a grest game with flaws that Bungie is working hard to fix. Bungie knows shooter since they rewrote the book on FPS shooters with Halo so the mechanics are solid. It's kind of fun meeting other Destiny fans and playing with or against them, so if you think you would enjoy what I've been talking about then you should play it. Download the demo and play it for a few days to see if Destiny is your type of game, just realize that early story questions will not he answered in this game, but maybe in the sequel.

Actually, I would have given this 2.5 stars if I could. Bungie knows how to make a fun to play shooter, it looks great and the mechanics are fantastic. But that's not enough, there are two points I'd like to address. First, if you like a good, or even competent story in your AAA games, walk away from Destiny. Yes, the Taken King edition has added some late game story elements that are interesting, but it's all to brief, and if you want to get the most for your money and play the game from the beginning you are still stuck with the original story which is painfully bad, when it's even there at all. Second, since the story is so bad the game lives and dies on how much fun it is to play. The great mechanics make it a blast for the first two thirds, but they are hampered late game by the fact that you need to participate in multi-player raids and PVP to advance. If you don't have friends playing this game good luck with that. Bungie has done a horrible job in assisting "noobs", there are no chat channels, or in game areas where a first timer can go to start his first raid. Oh, you can use matchmaking to jump into one, but be prepared to have the more experienced players get angry at your lack of knowledge, or drop out because why waste the time explaining anything to the new guy. That is not fun, it's embarrassing and frustrating. The PVP Trials of Osiris is even worse in that you simply can't play it unless you have friends playing the game so they can form a Strike Team with you. I guess I'd recommend this game if you have friends interested in playing with you, you'll still be frustrated by the story, but at least you'll be able to participate in the full game. Otherwise, there are much better games, and specifically better shooters on the market.

I absolutely love this game and a lot of the Destiny community. I hear a vocal minority complaining about the 'grind' of everything they have done and about bungies changes. The 'grind' is playing the game and I love it. I don't play strictly for the loot, that's the bonus. When they change the game I find a new ways to play and approach the different weapon choices. I feel that the game is always changing for better overall. I have put many hours in and I still don't have many items, and I have been dropped the same weapons many times and its not a big deal. So if your high strung, and always want the best of everything right away, and want the game to never evolve, and want the same predictable results every time, don't get this. If you are someone who likes a one player shooter with a outer space theme, original environments, pvp and pve variety, then get it, because I don't believe you will be disappointed especially since those who don't have the prior versions are getting the best deal by getting all of this for less than I paid for the total up to today. I have gotten my monies worth though. About 19 cents an hour.

BUY NEW!!!! There is a code that come with the game that you need to access everything this game is advertising. If you buy used, most likely that code is invalid. This game be very confusing at first. Especially for someone who isn't a bigger gamer. So if you have a friend that already has the game, they can show you the ropes and what to do. You will also want to have the PS Plus membership to get the full effect of the game. I bought this game at the end of June and I haven't played another game since. I have never been a 1st person shooter fan and mainly play sports games but this game is very smooth. There is so much to do on this game that it never gets boring. The maps can be repetitive but you are doing different things on the map. You can have friends help you with your quests. I can go on about everything you can do with this game but if you are a newbie when it comes to gaming and 1st person shooters like I am, you will love this game once you get the hang of it. FYI... A new expansion to this game comes out in September called Destiny: Rise of Iron. If you are thinking about buying this game, I would buy the Destiny: The Collection for $60 and it will give you every map and be current with everyone who purchased Destiny a few years ago. I paid $37.00 for Destiny: The Taken King and just recently pre-ordered the expansion Rise or Iron for $30. So look at all your options before purchasing the game.

The game play and mechanics are good, and the game is fun, but I'm tired of all the connection issues that arise every single time there is an event, and there are quite a few of them. Right now there is the sparrow racing event that goes on for about a month, and the servers have been junk the entire time. Same goes for the Iron Banner every time it comes around, and it really interferes with the Raids. It's an online game, yet the servers are trash every time there is a big event with a lot of people. This has been going on since the game released. They don't mind taking your money for the expansions and such, but are never as quick with fixing issues. This problem isn't specific myself either. I've played with many people who all experience the same issue at some point or another. And the player vs player portion of the game can be fairly unbalanced as well. Also, the people that bought all the expansions, but not The Taken King have been locked out of a decent amount of the content they already bought. And microtransactions have been introduced into the game, and as of now they are mostly cosmetic, but they've added a level boosting item to get a new character to level 25 instantly. Although it isn't really any sort of advantage, but I can definitely see them adding more items to the list later that do actually give players advantages over other players, like armor and weapons. The day they do that I'll be done with the game.

I originally bought this game when it first came out (Vanilla Version). Then, the game had so much potential and was a little annoyed to learn that I had bought what felt like a bare bones game. Don't get me wrong, the game worked (you could play multiplayer, the missions worked, etc). It just didn't have any story and was pushed as an FPS (first person shooter) with MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) RPG (Role Playing Game) elements also with DLC (downloadable content). Fast forward to now and the 3rd DLC is now out but as a seperate game and again for sale as $59.99. It really didn't justify another release with the upgrades to the story and weapon management systems. The Vanilla Version also had some weapons that were only specific to that erase that can no longer be purchased, however the developers have tweaked those weapons to the point that they've become useless. It definitely makes the initial purchasers of the game feel betrayed when they've stuck with it and played those grueling hours just to get a randomly generated special weapon. I would only purchase this game when the price point drops below (I did through a price match). Then it makes a little more sense considering I also get the other 2 DLC that were overpriced ro begin with. Although it's an addicting game before this expansive edition, it doesn't justify paying ANOTHER $60 just to play it.

The disk you get packaged in the box is Destiny (year 1 release). Both expansions from year 1, The Taken King expansion, as well as a weapons pack, are all in the form of redeemable codes you can use through the PSN store to download the content. While the total value for the package you get is decent, I was a little disappointed by the way it was presented. I'm the type of person who prefers everything disc based, in the event I decide to delete now and reinstall later, I'll still have the entirety of the content. Hard drive space is hard to come by as is with only 500GB. And not everyone has the extra money to invest into external drives, etc. The game itself is great, especially after the changes Bungie implemented into the gameplay, questing, story, and multiplayer. If you are a new player to Destiny, as was I, these changes work retroactively beginning from start of the original campaign, creating a smoother experience than those who started playing Day 1 (so I hear). While grinding levels isn't terribly difficult, a consumable is available from the Postmaster located in the Tower (home base for your characters) that allows you to upgrade one of your characters to level 25 right away, unlocking The Taken King story line.

I encourage new players to get it for this price it is no brainer considering the 3 DLCs, when the crota and POE DLC cost about $35 - $40. However, for me personally I am on the border line to get the TTK DLC for $40 alone. I have done almost everything in Destiny and have it all except Grimiore for Rumble, kill VIP targets and combined arms. The new DLC basically will be like POE + Trials DLC but includes new sub-class abilities for each guardian. I wish it was sold for $20 - $30. All my friends are also not purchasing it. I will just wait and see. I might skip this DLC and buy a bundle that includes more for cheap like this one here for new destiny players. IF money is not an issue buy this but becareful this game can be addictive, I skipped PVP but started it when Trials of Osiris arrived to get the better weapons. Guns in POE are useless. Buy this game wont regret it

Taken King makes a Good Game... Great

Taken King is an amazing game that fans of Science Fiction, Role Playing Games, and FPS will enjoy. It fixes many of the issues from the original destiny with regards to loots, matchmaking, and leveling up. Destiny is a fun game to play, but hard to master. However, its not quite an excellent game. To truly enjoy this game you need to have at least 5 other friends able to play to truly enjoy the content of the game. Furthermore, though there is more of a story in Taken King, it is still lackluster and is poorly delivered. The game also doesn't give you many clues how to play so there will be a lot of trial and error. To its benefit the structure of destiny allows people to enjoy in the game without partaking in raids or multiplayer, but it also does nothing to actively encourage people to do raids or make it accessible to do the high level content of games unless you find a group of friends. Sometimes you will get lucky and can find a good group that you can do raids with, but you will need to rely on websites or reddit to maximize your experience. Overall its a great game that allows for people who are casual to hardcore to enjoy.

Graphic style and gameplay are like halo. Grind is like WOW with better gear/weapons the more you level. Early on free to play becomes a solid grind with no ability to play with teams/do raids/special events/PvP without paying for/already having ps plus. Free to play becomes very limited and imho almost not worth buying the game since you get 10 missions but 9 require ps plus to complete. That 1 is so you can progress the main story, which is fairly lacking and follows a," I don't have time to explain how I don't have time to explain" type of story. So much content relies so heavily on having ps plus that it's technically like Halo and WOW had a "keep paying me" baby that makes me feel silly for getting the expansions included. Overall I was sold on the aspect that it was marketed so heavily as a high graphic quality FPS with friends, however I must have missed the fine print about how it's more of an MMO and plus needed for friend play and most all game modes. TLDR: It's a Halo grind MMO, emphasis on MMO. Play with PS plus or it will be a lonely, incredibly limited game with almost useless expansions.

    You're paying for an update

    Posted
    TheTakenBling

Considering the amount of game adjustment they've done, and the current track record of the lackluster previous DLCs, you are paying for a mandatory paid update rather than a full DLC. When a game like this rolls out DLC and with it comes such significant changes it tends to feel more like being flipped upsidedown and shaken for your change than it does a serious addition to the franchise. The subclasses will make it worth it, mainly because who is going to want to be the one in the party without them? No question that old players will be at somewhat of a disadvantage until they upgrade and even with that considered, season pass holders don't even get a discount. 10 years ago a $40 DLC would have gotten you tenfold of what it does now in comparison. ...but I guess that is becoming the nature of multiplayer DLC. You either have the money to upgrade, or a new coaster. Overview: changes that are coming far too late with most of the most game-changing being free to begin with anyway. Should be <$40

With Destiny, the folks at Bungie have put together an excellent shooter with great mechanics and crisp gunplay. As a Day 1 player, I was somewhat put off by the fact that they tied purchasing this update into the legacy content. That being said, the new content is a lot of fun and the voice acting (particularly Nathan Fillion) provides a more immersive story than Destiny Year 1. Admittedly, lack of endgame content is somewhat of an issue or I would give this game 5 stars. You can only run through the same missions so many times before they lose their luster. Finally, Destiny is much more fun if you have a lot of friends who play the game. The lack of matchmaking for raid missions almost makes this a necessity, as the raids themselves require (to some extent) coordination and defined roles that are not easily explainable to randoms - though there are third party sites (destinylfg) that can help find people to play with.

I love this game. It's a combination first person shooter and role playing game. It has elements from Borderlands and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Lots of customization with gear, weapons and special powers. A lot of the game can be played solo, but there are some missions that require 2 or more players. Not a big deal, since the game gathers them for you in necessary. You can also gather your own teams for just about any mission you want. The co-op missions are actually a lot of fun, especially when you have players who know what they are doing. The multiplayer (PvP) option, also known as the Crucible, is also a blast. I should mention that this is an online game. It requires Playstation Plus for some elements of the game, mostly dealing with multiplayer. This is pretty much where games are headed these days, so I would recommend getting a Playstation Plus account anyway. It's reasonably priced, so it's not a deal breaker.

If you've waited this long to buy Destiny do yourself a favor and pull the trigger. I originally played the beta and was pleasantly surprised. But for some reason I didn't get it at launch and then after hearing everyone loving it but finding the story a little lacking, weeks turned into months and then I thought it was too late to jump in. Then I thought I missed the train, but when The Taken King Legendary Edition was on sale for $29 I went for it. I'm glad I did. The story is a little lacking but everything else makes up for it. The loot, the gameplay, the online multiplayer MMO aspects, the random aiming assists that make you feel like a pro, all of it makes it feel accessible and keeps you coming back for more. So much so that I really don't want to use The Spark of Light item that takes you straight to level 25. I want to earn it. That's a lot coming from someone who generally doesn't like playing shooters online.

I am glad I took the chance. After playing the beta, I wasn't convinced that it would be all I wanted from a bungie game after the halo series and lost all interest. Many changes have been made to the game and its contents since then. So after a year of not giving a chance.. I finally did.. And I do not regret it. This is a complete collection of the DLC available and it is worth the money. Most of my friends have played it for actual days worth of time and still get enjoyment out of it. It's always an excitement to get new gear and compare it to what you have or meet a new and interesting friend online. My favorite game to play online for the PS4. Great game to play alone.. Even better game to play with friends. If you're looking to meet new people and try new things.. Go to a new country. Or buy this game. Whichever is easier. (online connection and ps+ required for many features)

I figured it was going to be just a simple add on of a couple of quests and a few more mobs to kill. But in reality its was a lot more than that. Just when you thought you were done killing the main Boss the second day in, you figure well game over....Well not so...that's just really the beginning. so don't get discouraged. theres plenty more to follow. but a helpful hint...I am solo player by nature...some of the end quests DO require some help from others...so make friends...very good friends because you will need them....:) over all if you liked Destiny...you will love the Taken King. and if you didn't like Destiny...there are some really cool features they added that make playing a lot more fun. the exotic blue prints for one is cool. the infusion of armor and weapons is nice. and the quest turn in, is nice too. so yeah ...I enjoyed and still am ...

But I still recommend it to anyone who enjoys Call of Duty PVP shooters, because you are not expected to live long in PVP. A 1.0 KDR is satisfactory. If PVP isn't your thing...than I can still recommend this if you enjoy MMO's. MMO players understand that grinding is apart of their game. It isn't ideal, but it is a necessary evil. Destiny TTK has fixed a lot of the gear issues originally released with the game, but I cannot say it is perfect now either. As far as solo pve content goes, I have been playing daily for the last month because there is always something to work towards, secrets to be found, new missions to unlock (10/07/2015 New mission unlocked today). If you are a completionist...you will scream at this game, but if you want a great shooter, average story, and an amazing community of players. Destiny is the game I would recommend.

OK, I can rant on and on about Destiny. It comes down to this - buy this game. Destiny - The Taken King is a huge jump forward from the original game. The leveling system is clearer, the stories are better and the weapons make a lot more sense as well. Plus there are new extras besides the game expansion - new weapons, new items, new 'thing' you can wear (rings, bangles, etc that increase your Light) and, frankly, one of my faves are the new emotes. I've always loved the fact that I can make my character dance but now I can make my character play air-guitar, or hit his head in frustration, or sardonically clap. I know it's silly, but it really adds something to the game for me. My overall rating for this game is really 4-4.5 stars, but I give it the full 5 stars because it's such a great improvement over what Destiny started as.

Listen, all these people that are complaining about Destiny is because their precious Gally, Thorn and Last Word are getting a debuff. Don't listen to any of them, they just don't know how to play if something isn't OP. This game is a great deal of you have the unlocked Gamer Card. You get all DLC for around 50$. Better yet, trade in your Destiny copy, get credit toward this and save 20% with the gamer unlocked card and your getting a heck of a deal!
