SteelSeries is back on the right track

While magnetic Hall Effect switches for keyboards have been around for the better part of five decades, the original SteelSeries Apex Pro brought them to the mainstream. It was a solid product that started to show how gaming brands were actually listening to the community, at least mostly outside of the hardcore custom scene. Regrettably, SteelSeries took a step back with the second-generation Apex Pro released in 2023. Wireless capability was nice, but the overall build quality and typing experience were noticeably worse. The company has changed course with the 2024 update, and nearly every aspect of the Apex Pro has improved as a result. A tighter-feeling chassis with foam inside makes this, in my opinion, the best-sounding version of its contemporaries, including those from Corsair, Razer, and especially Wooting. Though the stabilizers on my unit were better than the previous Apex Pro I tried, they still required a bit of extra lubrication to fully eliminate the small amount of rattling. Lastly on the hardware front, SteelSeries continues to only use the adjustable switches on the alphanumeric cluster. The function row and navigation keys are standard contact-based linear switches. The software experience has also improved, at least in terms of overall stability and functionality. It's less bloated than Corsair's iCue but not as intuitive/well integrated as Razer's Synapse. The UI also feels dated and cluttered. The whole thing could benefit from a ground-up rewrite, though what's on offer right now is more than usable. Overall, the 2024 Apex Pro shows that SteelSeries is able to respond to feedback and update their products accordingly. It's something I can recommend, but wait for it to be on sale.

    Amazing typing experience

Never tried any Apex Pros but have had huntsman te but I will say that typing on this gen 3 version feels amazing and has great software too.

    Amazing

Extremely fast. Love how customizable the entire thing is. Especially the oled screen. I can put so much information or images on display.
