Q: Does the keyboard still work when it's not attached to the tablet?
A: No, the keyboard does not work if detached from the screen.
A: The HP estimate of 8 hours for mixed usage are about what I am seeing which is 7 to 8 hours for Wi-Fi connected web browsing, email, and office tasks. Video streaming from the internet from a source like Netflix is more like 4 to 5 hours. Not sure what video playback of locally stored video is though the 7 hour estimate doesn't seem unreasonable.

A: I've noticed this as well. I would assume that the left side of the top is the air intake (since there are no other vents on the computer) and the right side is where the hot air comes out.

A: No, the laptop does not have a Thunderbolt port.
A: From what I've seen, you can only get the upgraded model from HP.
Q: Can the RAM be upgraded to 16GB?
A: The tablet portion where the "guts" are contained is a sealed unit. I do not believe there is any way that a user can upgrade the memory or the storage! You might want to check the HP Service Manual which should be available online.
