This Chromebook is wonderful, with only one issue
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendOverall, I love my Chromebook. They keyboard is very well spaced, the keys have a nice travel time and there are a lot of keys that make web browsing a more positive experience that aren’t on a “normal” keyboard. The trackpad is one of my favorite things about this Chromebook. It’s very responsive, it pushes back against your finger nicely, and I also love the drag-to-scroll feature. It’s spacious and definitely the best trackpad I’ve ever used (Apple computers included). The screen is clear and almost seems to have a matte finish, which helps reduce glare. The screen, of course, looks best on full brightness, but I usually keep it on a lower setting to save battery life. It still looks great, nevertheless. The Chromebook feels well-built and nothing feels cheap. The material used, however, will become darker in areas where your hands sit, which makes the Chromebook look a little dirty. These spots are hard to remove immediately, but usually go away on their own soon enough. The material doesn’t pick up fingerprints easily, but like I said, when it does, they’re a little hard to get rid of immediately, and these don’t seem to go away on their own like the hand spots do. This Chromebook is extremely light, which I love as a student. The battery life is impressive. I get about 8 hours with pretty heavy usage. My last computer, in its prime, would get around 3-4 hours. It’s definitely important to mention that this isn’t a traditional computer (for those who still don’t know). You can’t install third-party software on Chromebooks. In other words, you can’t directly get Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), iTunes, etc. Pretty much everything you do, you need to get an app from the Web Store. It’s actually pretty easy to get used to, and it’s not as big of a change as you might think. I got used to it quickly. More and more apps are becoming available, which is nice. Also, because of this, you have to get a specific type of printer that is capable of cloud printing. This is because you can’t install normal printing software on the Chromebook. Many printers have this capability nowadays, but it's an inconvenience for me because I just bought a printer a few months ago that is not capable of cloud printing. I’m not sure if these printers tend to be more expensive, so that’s something you’ll want to look into. I should mention there IS a way to use Microsoft Office online through apps in the Web Store (for free). It works well and fits my needs as a student, but it doesn’t have all the same features you'd have if you were to actually buy it and install it on a normal computer, of course. The alternative to this is Google’s version on Microsoft Office - Google Docs (Word) , Slides (PowerPoint) and Sheets (Excel). I was a die-hard Microsoft Office fan (still am), but Google’s version is good, too. There is one thing that I’ve had a major problem with. Within two weeks, my first Chromebook was restarting on me randomly. I thought it was just a bad egg and exchanged it. Unfortunately, the exchanged Chromebook just randomly restarted on me today, too! Is anyone else having this issue? I don’t know what to do to stop it. There is no CD drive, but you do get an HDMI port, 2 USB ports and some sort of card reader. And, of course, a charger port and headphone jack. The speakers are loud and sound good. The webcam isn’t the best, but not the worst. It’d be fine for things like Skype (yes, you can Skype on a Chromebook, but I prefer Google Hangouts). Shutting down takes a second or two, and starting up (from being completely shut off) takes almost no time at all, which is one of the Chromebook’s signatures. Another signature of the Chromebook - SPEED. It’s very, very fast, even with multiple tabs and windows open. And, you only have to shutdown to install updates once (when you first start it up). Other than that, it installs updates itself in the background. Netflix works great! Every once in a while, it will skip, but my last computer did the same thing. It could honestly be my Internet connection. Same goes for Spotify (available in the Web Store). The size is perfect - not too small, not too big. Chromebooks don’t cost much at all, especially if you catch them on sale, as I did. Overall, as I said, I love my Chromebook. If I didn’t have this issue of it restarting randomly, it’d be perfect!

Surprising
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI came in to get a new laptop for my wife. I never imagined I'd be leaving with a $199 dollar bill. I remember when Chromebooks first came out. They were cheap feeling, slow as molasses, and worst of all there was virtually no support for the device. Boy have things changed. My wife had an i5 processor Samsung computer with 8GB of ram and a 1TB HDD. It was huge, heavy, and cumbersome. It had a horrible trackpad that never sensed scrolling properly, and it was just time for it to go. Ironically, this computer is faster. With just 2GB of RAM, I wasn't expecting much. Ok, I was expecting ANYTHING. But websites on our 5GHz connection load up in a snap. I had a friend over, and he put it best. "It looks like a site loading on a computer in a movie. It's just there". It's really light, but doesn't feel cheap. The brushed metal look has a thick texture too it that almost feels like wood grain. It has HDMI out, two USB ports, and even has an SD card reader. It doesn't have an optical drive, but we never used that anyway. The 16GB of space is plenty, especially considering I can use SD cards and USB thumbdrives. Additionally, you never have to do any updates on this computer (all done in the background) and thus will never "get old" and slow down. No virus software to worry about either, so the speed you get is the speed you have in the future. Nice. The trackpad IS A DREAM. Scrolling, clicking, ... all feels of Apple quality, and that says quite a bit. Overall the OS is simple, lightning fast, and is a WHOLE lot better than Windows 8. Oh I can't tell you how happy she is to not have to deal with that train wreck of an OS any longer. It has decent support, from the latest mobile games, Spotify, and even chat-only Skype through Outlook. No, not everything is supported, but if all you really do is surf and shop on the net, check your email, and play a few mobile games with Spotify chugging in the background, this is MORE than enough and SO worth it for the price. What it lacks in Skype support you gain in Hangouts support, and the camera built in is really impressive. Oh, the speakers are of impeccable quality for a laptop. Very loud, and sound really good for Youtube vids and Spotify music. It makes an excellent laptop for the couch. Doesn't heat up and is whisper silent. As a power-hungry PC lover, I can't believe how much I love this computer. She loves it even more. I actually am thinking of getting one for myself.

Chrome Book
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendIf you are looking for something to surf the web and use for online purposes only, this is not a bad little machine. It's light weight and has a big screen. The keyboard is not backlit, so you will need to use in a lit room and is not something you are going to be doing any kind of gaming on... other than that, it's a nice little machine.

Good Machine at Price
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI've really enjoyed the Asus so far. The display is clear, and I was glad to find a chromebook larger than 10". I prefer the larger size. The battery life has been incredible. It's a pretty responsive machine. I am the type to use a large number of tabs researching different things, and it will freeze for a minute and close the window after collecting a good 15-20 tabs or better. However, it will restore everything as soon as you open the browser back up. I haven't used the apps a lot, but I have enjoyed what I have used. This is definitely all you need unless you're programming, designing, or handling specified programs for some reason.

Great for school work
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendGreat for school/office work for the price, although if you're unfamilar with the Chrome OS model you might have a little hard time adjusting to this. Nevertheless, it's a good buy for the price. Not recommended for downloading movies and games by the way, just for netflix, browsing and writing papers. Also this DOES NOT have MS OFFICE and you'll be using Google sheets, google docs etc.

Great Computer. Easy to use!
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendMost have a limited opinion about Chromebooks and don't see much use for them. This is a great product that is extremely fast, effective, and great for simple tasks and web surfing. AC WIFI is great and quicker than anything I have seen. Highly recommend

Excellent Chromebook
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis was my first Chromebook purchase. Regarding the device itself, I love that it's super-light, and that the screen size is 13 inches vs the common 11 inch size that most Chromebooks are. It seems durable enough, and looks better than I'd expect for something in the sub-$200 range. While I'm still getting used to some of the nuances of Chromebooks, I'm very happy so far. I like having all of my files stored online, where they are accessible through my phone, tablet, or other computers at work or home. The operating system has been very easy to navigate and understand. I will buy Chromebooks in the future as well.

good device. does what is asked of it
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI used to have a little notebook. All I really used it for was using the Internet. So this is a much better device for my purposes. Big screen, fast, all around a good little Web browser. The screen is kind of picky in that you have to look at it straight on for the best picture. There's a noticeable decrease in quality otherwise, but it is livable. My favorite toy after my ps4. You can connect it to you pc wirlessly, for remote control. Buy one.
Q: QuestionWould this be a good laptop for school?I am planning to go back to school and I like to get a nice yet reasonably priced laptop for research papers, projects, etc. I also would like to use it for checking email and browsing the internet. Should I consider purchasing this Chromebook (laptop)? Thanks!

- A:Answer Yes. I bought one of these laptops for both of my twelve year old daughters who live on it since getting it. They use it for research for school and do a lot of searching the internet as well as you it for social media. They have not had a single problem with them and love the fact that they can use wireless mouse with it and a flash drive.

Q: QuestionCan itunes be added to this?adding a application
Asked by luis.
- A:Answer I don't think so. iTunes is an individual, executable program. Chromebooks are basically strong netbooks built around Google's construct. So you could access iCloud since it's on the internet, but you shouldn't be able to download programs such as iTunes. It does bear apps such as Play Music, etc. for music playing. However, these won't sync to your iTunes nor allow you to import what's stored on your iTunes library.

Q: QuestionHow do you brighten the screen display?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer There are two buttons on the keyboard that control brightness. They are at the very top, and are the seventh and eighth key in, starting from the left. They look like a small and big sun.
