Good Purchase - Meets My Needs
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My place is cleaned regularly. However, dust builds up quick perhaps cos a window is always open. As I have asthma, I was looking for a solution. For me, this was perfect and works well. Its looks ok, has HEPA filter and comes with two cloth socks to go over filer (mine were gray and blue.) Extra filters can be bought on Amazon for $20 dollars. One can also buy extra filter socks for when others are being washed.

Pretty air filter that doesn’t filter air
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I’m pretty disappointed with this air filter. I put it in my small bedroom, which is less than 100 sq. ft, and let it run on the HIGH setting (which is incredibly loud) day and night for the past 4 days nonstop and I’m still seeing A LOT of particulate floating around in the air, like literally no less than before I got the filter. I have bad allergies and they’ve not improved at all, they almost seem worse. It seems like all it does is blow the air around. I even picked it up and was holding it in the air right next to particulate I saw floating around and I couldn’t see anything being sucked in. If it can’t suck up particulate that’s directly next to it then I’m not sure how this thing is capable of cleaning the air in an entire room. Aside from its poor performance, it’s also been producing a bad smell, it’s hard to describe but the best thing I can compare it to is old paper, like a stale, old smell. It’s supposed to get rid of odors but now my entire apartment smells old and stale. The settings also make no sense, on the low setting the fan spins so slowly that barely any air is being moved, then the medium setting the fan spins very loudly, and the high setting is even louder. There should be a fourth setting in between the low and medium settings that’s actually functional but not really loud. Regardless, I could overlook the noise if it actually filtered air, but it doesn’t perform its most basic function. I wish I’d have spent the money on a better filter, I feel like I’ve wasted $120.

Posted .Many new products release a new smell upon opening and using right out of the box. This is also true for filter media. Filter fibers can absorb a smell from other materials during the packaging process. This smell and all components involved during our filter production are harmless and non-toxic. This newness smell should move through and out of the filter within 48 hours of use. If you have run the air purifier for 48 hours and are still experiencing this issue, please email info@blueair.com and we would be happy to set you up with a new filter.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This air purifier is perfect for my small bedroom. We have forced air heating, and pets, and although our heating system has a filter we still see dust and hair flying around. This simple machine is easy to set-up, being almost ready to go out of the box, and doesn't have confusing options to figure out, just 3 settings, low, medium, and high. I use the machine on low during the day when I am not around, and medium when sleeping (I appreciate the white noise). The highest setting is rather loud, and not as pleasant as others have noted. I have found this setting to be most useful when I am cleaning/dusting/vacuuming and stirring up dust. This will just clear all of that from the air, so it doesn't settle back on surfaces, which is fantastic! The dust accumulation has reduced dramatically since using this, I rarely need to clean/dust, which is an added benefit. I'm an allergy sufferer, and my sinus are clearer when I wake-up when using this. I have not yet replaced the filter, but the current cost, and ease of replacement seem reasonable for the benefits. I like the washable fabric pre-filters, it comes with 2, though I recommend vacuuming it occasionally especially right before your remove it to wash, so the dust doesn't go flying. Simple machine, but works well. My one major complaint, the supposed "night mode" which is supposed to dim the control lights after 7 seconds, is non-existent as far as I can tell, and the lights are bothersome to me when sleeping. I simply took a marker and tinted the lights, but I wish this feature was functional. As this is energy star certified there may be rebates available depending on your location.

Does the job
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't know why I didn't buy one of these sooner. I have indoor and outdoor all-season allergies and recently acquired a cat, to which I'm also allergic. I must have gotten used to feeling crummy all the time because I noticed a difference within minutes of turning on this purifier. It's very easy to set up and use and has been running non-stop in my bedroom since I got it. I feel so much better in the morning (unless the cat sleeps in my face all night), and I've noticed I don't sneeze at home at all anymore. I swapped out the blue pre-filter for the gray because I figured it'd be easier to tell how quickly it got dirty. Surprisingly, I didn't notice much trapped in it until about a month of use, but it's nice they included two so you can keep it running while washing one. I keep mine on high, and it doesn't disrupt my sleep at all. (It's nearly silent on low.) Overall, a good purchase, and I'd consider buying the other models for larger spaces.

Disappointing Performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this because this is the Wirecutter's current "budget pick" for small spaces. According to their review, it "performs impressively" (90% particulate reduction in 35 min) for its small size and energy efficiency. I suppose that I can't dispute the latter two points. It is indeed small, and I imagine that the power draw is minimal considering how quiet is when placed on the lowest setting. Now, it's possible that my expectations were too high after reading the Wirecutter's glowing review, but the Blue's actual performance has been somewhat abysmal for my use case. I purchased two units, and placed one in 154 sq. ft bedroom that belongs to a family member who likes to use his electronic vape pod indoors. I'm a little sensitive to the smell, and it seems worse when there's stale air. Well, in the 4 weeks since I've placed this inside his bedroom (running on medium 24/7), I'd say the smell has improved 10-15%. I put the other unit inside my own bedroom (220 sq. ft.), and there does seem to be less dust than usual. But the difference isn't really dramatic. Lastly, two more cons: 1) the highest setting is basically unusable (unless you like the sound of being on the tarmac at LAX), and 2) there's no automatic air quality sensor. I currently have a Coway AP1512HH in the living room and an older Winix 5300 in the loft, and both units run circles around the Blue 411. Granted, those units are twice the size (and price), but I still wish this were a better performer, especially considering how promising it seemed at first.

I never slept better
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had my doubt about buying an air purifier but I had this for only two days when I knew it was a keeper. It worked like a champ while I had my ensuite bathroom renovated. It has truly made a difference in the air quality in my bedroom.

Q: QuestionIs this machine do the same thing as an ozone machine?
Asked by Bodry.
- A:Answer No, and you do not want to run an Ozone generating machine in your house. Despite what some say, Ozone in a closed environment like a house is bad for you. This item is simply an airborne particulate air cleaner.

Q: QuestionDoes this air purifier also remove viruses? Before I purchased it I read that it does remove viruses but the box just arrived yesterday and it doesn’t mention anything about viruses. It mentions it can remove bacteria, mold, dust mites. Please help.
Asked by Sums.
- A:Answer It is designed to remove the bulk of typical air pollutants (which happens to be around the 2.5 micron) not viruses.

Q: QuestionIs this machine noisy?

Q: QuestionIs the filter a true hepa filter or is it a hepa type?
Asked by Gman.
- A:Answer The unit's filter will be less dense than a standard HEPA filter, but it will still capture up to 99% of all particle that pass through it. (For anything to be technically HEPA, it has to hit 60% efficiency). Because of the density of the filter, it will give you HEPA performance without the label.
