Best Bang for your Buck Security System
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've recently been in the market for a home security system and after countless hours of research I decided to go with SimpliSafe. First off, I'm currently renting my house and don't want to go through the hassle of drilling holes in walls, running wires, for a house I don’t even own. So weighing all my options from the big named security systems it was obvious that Simplisafe was the perfect match for my situation. The setup process was super easy. The SimpliSafe system arrived neatly packaged with clear instructions. While I consider myself pretty tech savvy, you do not need to be a technical expert or need professional help to get it up and running. All the components are wireless (minus the camera), which means no messy cables to deal with. Within 30 minutes, I had all the sensors in place, the key pad mounted and the Keep Watch 24/7 Camera. Pairing the hub along with the simpliSafe app was super easy and had no issues whatsoever when pairing everything into the app. Just follow the easy step-by-step instructions in the app and you are good to go. The SimpliSafe system is highly customizable. I set up motion sensors near the main entry point and strategically placed door/window sensors for the most likely spots an intruder would try to enter and placed the Keep Watch 24/7 Camera by the front door. The ability to customize the system to my home's layout was a big plus. Controlling the system through the SimpliSafe app is incredibly convenient. I can arm and disarm the system remotely, receive instant alerts, and even view live footage from the Keep Watch 24/7 Camera on my phone. The interface is very user-friendly, making it accessible for everyone in my household. The SimpliSafe system has proven its reliability. It's triggered without fail when a sensor is tripped. The loud alarm is enough to deter any intruder and alert me, my family, and my neighbors. The Keep Watch 24/7 Camera provides crystal-clear footage, even in low-light conditions, giving me peace of mind that my home is always under surveillance. Another major selling point for me was the affordability of the SimpliSafe system. I initially was expecting a hefty price tag for this level of security, when compared to the other big name security companies where the monitoring service alone was more than I was willing to pay a month and you needed to sign up for at least 2 years. SimpliSafe is surprisingly budget-friendly, with the monthly monitoring coming in around $17 a month (as of writing this) and you get to own all the sensors, and camera, so when I do decide to move I can bring them with me to my next home. There are no hidden fees or contracts, and in my opinion this is a no brainer, Although I haven't had any major issues, and haven't needed to call them for anything or have someone come out to my home so, I can not attest to their response time, but that can probably vary by where you live. In conclusion, my experience with the SimpliSafe 8pc Indoor Security Kit and Keep Watch 24/7 Camera has been great. It's super easy to set up, highly programmable to your needs, and provides reliable security without spending a fortune. If you're looking for a user-friendly, effective, and affordable home security solution, you can't go wrong with a SimpliSafe security system. It certainly has given me the peace of mind I was looking for.

Great simple wireless small home system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my 2nd system to install at my house. So adding on a 2nd system is somewhat easy. Lessons learned from the 1st system install are as follows... -do not mount anything yet.... -set everything down on a big table -begin the pairing process -have your cell phone with you and refresh at each location as you set up a sensor Mind you that the base station HAS to be in range of sensors. The sensors will NOT tag onto wifi to communicate back to the base station. Only items that tag onto wifi are the cameras. This means if you have a sensor far away from the base station or if there are walls that have plaster or are too thick to penetrate it will give you bad readings or not communicate back to the base station correctly. Also if you have windows that are double hung meaning both the upper and lower panes slide you will have complications with setting the sensors and you may need a double set sensors for both sliders. Also another location sensors are hard to install are doors. If you have molding around your doors, it will nearly be impossible to install at an exterior door. So I opted to use a motion sensor near the door. This particular system is enough for a small apartment or a small house. If you have a larger dwelling unit you will need a bigger system with more sensors etc. Also if you have an upstairs you may or may not be able to pickup the sensors upstairs due to floors and walls being in the way. So.... With all of that in mind, and with trouble shooting and trial and error I was able to set this up in ADU. Base station took about 20 mins to install due to updates and all. I also had a little trouble adding a 2nd base station and 2nd location to my account. But got through it. The new interior camera was a bit more challenging to setup. I had to use the keypad to install it and then the app updated. It went through an firmware update and had a hiccup. It eventually paired. I really do like this indoor camera. It has an alarm, and a privacy shutter so know that it is not spying on you. If you want to save recorded material you have to sign up for their monthly service. Just an FYI. Other than that the system functions fine after all the setup was done. It took about 2 full hours to get everything dialed in. App was/is easy to use. So no complaints. For what the intent is which to have a security system that is not hardwired and tied to a traditional company this is they way to go. For those reasons I would recommend this product with the understanding of the limitations I have listed.

Top Notch Security System
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great packaging of the SimpliSafe home monitoring system. It was all organized in a compactly fit box. When I first opened the SimpliSafe box, I noticed the quick setup sheet. It said to download the app and I did. The app literally walked me through the process of setting up system. When the home base is in setup mode, it automatically finds the device I have activated. I did the activation one at a time by removing the battery tab and pushing the small button on the device I’m adding. All the devices were very easy to install except for the smart indoor camera. After several attempts of troubleshooting the camera with a SimpliSafe service representative it’s still not resolved. The best thing I like about the SimpliSafe security system is the ease of use. It was well thought of by the company. So often I would forget to arm my alarm but with the app I can just do it on my phone from anywhere. It’s been years since I’ve had an upgrade to my home security system before my new SimpliSafe. It’s come a long way since then and I’m happy with all the improvements. I have yet to have an emergency situation but I feel confident that SimpliSafe will get me the help I need. No contract to commit to and you have a few options for all budgets. I use the SimpliSafe plans according to what fits my needs for the time being. So far I noticed that this base station provides more range than my older alarm system. I’m now able to use the door sensors for my sheds which allow me to get a better piece of my mind. So much to like about this SimpliSafe system. I can create pins and assign them to individuals that way I don’t need to give my master pin. I can view logs of events in the app. The light up keypad is perfect for me at night or early morning when I’m disarming the alarm. Great alarm system for the price and any customer can customize their system by adding the devices that works for them. I will recommend the SimpliSafe to anyone looking for an affordable wireless alarm system.

Everything you need in a box
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For people who don’t want the big name brand security companies and the contracts and all the hidden fees for home security, this is a great find. Simplisafe is a well known company and has a good tried and true product. No professional install needed. If you have electricity, Wi-Fi and a screw driver you will be able to install it all yourself. I do suggest watching a YouTube video to understand each piece of the puzzle. I like the design and color is the collection. You have the home base and all of the sensors and the keypad. Make sure you properly place each sensor in an area that is easily accessible just in case you have to relocated move it adjusted so that the sensors work correctly. Make sure to clean them off every 3 to 6 months as this can affect the sensibility. The keypad I’m not a fan if it looks huge, hunky and very obvious so if you want something sleek and functionable, the keypad is not it. Overall, I like to set it is everything you need if you have a smaller home with just a few windows in a couple of doors this will keep you safe. Monitoring is east as well

Quick install, reliable sensors, expandable
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have security cameras installed outside our home to monitor our property and while we do get motion alerts, they won’t contact emergency services in the event of a break-in, fire, or medical emergency. The SimpliSafe Indoor Home Security Kit helps us fill in that gap with sensors and contract-free subscriptions that we can enroll in and cancel at any time (month-to-month). This kit includes a base station with built-in siren, keypad with panic button, two indoor motion detectors (Gen 2), four door/window entry sensors, and a yard sign. While this particular kit doesn’t include any recording equipment, the system can be expanded to include indoor and outdoor cameras as well as glass break sensors and hazard detectors for example, temperature, smoke & carbon monoxide, and water. Each sensor has a small pairing button on top that you’ll need to press during setup. SimpliSafe offers three paid plan levels from the basic self-monitoring (unlimited cloud recording if you have cameras in your system), to their Fast Protect plan with emergency dispatch, push notifications, and built-in cellular connection. A one-month free trial can be activated after setup. Note that without a subscription, emergency dispatch will not be contacted automatically. To get the system up and running, download the SimpliSafe mobile app on a smart phone or tablet. Once registered and signed in, the app will guide you through installation starting with the base station. You’ll plug it in, select a 4-digit Master PIN code, connect it to your WiFi network, and it’ll automatically download any firmware updates, if available. You can also complete setup without the use of the app by simply powering on the keypad and base station which should pair automatically. Once the keypad is paired, you can add additional devices/sensors via its menu screens without using the app. All configurable settings in the app are also available directly on the keypad, but without the app you won’t be able to remotely arm/disarm or monitor your system. All keys on the keypad are backlit to make them easier to see at night. To navigate the menus on the screen, you’ll press/click the sides of the screen. There’s also an accelerometer in it that will light up the screen if the unit is picked up, and it comes with a bracket for wall mounting. Installing the motion and entry sensors is very simple and only takes a few minutes. You can choose to use the pre-installed, removeable, damage-free stickers to mount them to your walls, door, and windows, or use the included screws to more permanently fix them in place, however, this will require some drilling. It’s recommended to install the motion sensors within 100 ft of the base station in the corner of a room about 6 ft high for the best coverage. I found setting them higher, near the ceiling, not ideal as some motion close to and under the sensor was missed. For the entry sensors it doesn’t matter which piece is stationary and which one moves as long as the centers are aligned and within 2 inches of each other when the door or window is closed. They can be installed vertically or horizontally. I found the pieces don’t need to sit on the same plane as long as they are within 2 inches, as my jambs and window frames are outset from my doors and sashes about a half inch. As all the sensors operate on replaceable batteries, they can be detached from their brackets by sliding them upwards. The entry sensors use a CR2032 coin cell battery, while the motion sensors use a CR123A Lithium battery. The keypad operates off 4 AA batteries. The base station is the only component of this kit that needs to be plugged in via the included A/C adapter, although it does have 4 rechargeable AA NiMH backup batteries as well if your power goes out. Inside the base station is a cellular SIM card that is only used if you subscribe to one of the professional monitoring plans as backup coverage in the event of a power outage in order to contact emergency services. The motion sensors have a pet mode setting that will allow your pets to move freely throughout rooms without triggering the sensor. I also found this setting useful for rooms that have robot vacuums cleaning on a schedule, to avoid accidental detection. When the two pieces of the entry sensor are moved apart more than two inches (door and windows), a chime will sound on the base station in all modes to notify you of an entry. There are two armed modes you can set, ‘Home’ and ‘Away.’ Though technically all 3 modes, including ‘Off,’ are able to trigger the alarm siren and contact emergency services; you can set different parameters for each mode to suit your needs, for example, longer or shorter entry/exit delays, and whether or not specific devices will trigger the system at all. You can also choose "secret alerts" (with a subscription) that will send registered devices a notification but will not contact emergency services or activate the siren. By default, motion sensors are disabled while you are home so you can move about freely but entry sensors will be active, so you’ll be alerted of unauthorized entry. The siren can be set to sound for 30 seconds up to 8 minutes. Your sensors can be set to trigger the alarm and alert emergency responders instantly or after a delay of your choosing (5 seconds up to 4 minutes and 15 seconds) unless the system is disarmed on the keypad or via the app. Note that in the later case, you will receive a phone call for verification prior to any dispatch action being taken. Since there is only one keypad, and we have two entrances, I found setting the entry delay slightly longer allowed us to reach the keypad in a central location more easily with enough time to disarm the system. You can also get an additional keypad for each entrance for convenience. During the entry delay, the keypad will beep and a countdown will appear in the app letting you know how much time you have left to disarm the system before the alarm goes off. You can either use the Master PIN or a user PIN, the latter which allows you to disarm the system but not change system settings. If disarming via the app, you do not need to enter a PIN. You may also choose to setup a Duress PIN which shuts the system off but also silently sends a notification to emergency responders, for use if you are forced to disarm the alarm by an intruder. Additional PINs can only be registered on the keypad, and not in the app. Overall, I found this security system to be quick to install and setup, easy to use, and the sensors triggered reliably. With ‘Pet Mode’ you don’t have to be worried about false alarms and being able to arm and disarm the system via both the keypad and app is pretty convenient. This kit comes with enough basic components to get started protecting your home, and it is expandable to meet your specific needs. I've already added a Simplisafe wireless indoor camera that I can monitor remotely from the app, and it works great. The no-contract subscription plans offered are a nice option to enhance the system with emergency services for fast responses in case of an emergency and 24/7 peace of mind.

Reliable security system with great expandability.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is by far one of the easiest pieces of security system I've ever installed. It's the renter-friendly option when landlords don't have a system in place. It is due to the wireless nature of the entire system, which is a welcome sight to some and technical difficulties for others. My system arrived a little weird; in one box, you get your base station and sensors. While in another, cameras. So we won't touch on the aesthetics of the packaging. IN THE BOX Upon opening the box, I was first met with instructional material and window stickers. You get the standard manuals, extra adhesive tapes, and yard signs with a box of stakes. Then your base station, 4x entry sensors, 2x motion sensors, a keypad, and a camera. SETUP Setup to bring the system online, you really only need WiFi in your home and an outlet for the base station. After plugging in, the instructions direct you to download the Simplisafe app, which then instructs you to create a free account. At this point, you're spammed that your system includes a 30-day trial of professional monitoring, but declining this at this point doesn't disqualify your system from the offer. Once on the home screen, you can begin adding individual devices, including motion sensors, door/window entry sensors, cameras, remotes, and keypads. The instructions call for pulling the battery label and pressing a button found on the sensor device. Then within seconds, the base station says it's paired. The most difficult portion of all this, primarily for those that aren't tech-inclined, is creating a SimpliSafe account and downloading/linking with the app. PERFORMANCE Every piece of hardware has multiple customization options to suit your use case. For me, I've set up different motion sensors with and without pet mode. Arming the system takes about 25 seconds in "Home" mode and 60 seconds in "Away" mode. You can change the amount of time it takes to arm from the settings window in the app in case your selected location for hardware isn't in an optimal place to exit, or in case you're trying to make it more difficult to access by a would-be thief. With pet mode active, I can move slowly across a motion sensor without triggering its detection. This might be related to your placement of the motion sensor. The cameras detect quickly, and within 30 seconds, your alarm triggers. Enabling instant trigger will make the alarm go off as soon as an event occurs. Picture quality in both light and dark is phenomenal. The camera really surprised me, as it functions as a wired device and a battery-operated camera. Installing is a breeze; there are 2 screws for the baseplate of the camera, and the base slides right over. The sensors come with pre-applied adhesive strips and screws for a more permanent install. The audible alarm, while reasonably loud, isn't as loud as I was expecting. According to the documentation and upon a visual inspection of the base station, there is an internal battery and a SIM card under the top cover. As for the SIM card, it's easily visible once you slide off the top cover; however, the same can't be said of the battery. In fact, no piece of hardware that includes a replaceable battery has any instructions or details on the hardware to access said battery. The potential issue here is with the wireless nature of the unit. According to the instructions, the base station needs to be close to the router but not next to each other. I assume they can cause interference with each other. From there, all your connected devices talk with the base station wirelessly. If you have poor WiFi in your home, this can create issues for you. While excessive wireless interference may limit the range or performance of your connected devices, i.e., sensors, cameras, smoke detectors, Keypads, etc. TAKEAWAYS In my home, this system has performed admirably. I have come across several mentions of the base station suddenly disconnecting from monitoring, but that isn't something I can complain about as of now. Labeling of the products to detail how to service the units would be something I would have expected from a unit like this. While I like that the base is wireless, it would be far more reliable if it were wired or included the option to hard wire or WiFi. The camera has terrific video quality, but without a subscription, all you have is a motion sensor that you can view. There are no offline recording options, but cloud-based motion recording with a sub. The privacy shutter is a welcome surprise, as it opens automatically when you arm the system and shuts when disabled. Viewing a live stream while disabled opens the shutter for the period of time you are viewing. Real-time audio has very little to almost no latency. Every piece being wireless means the installation time of a DIY system is incredibly fast. Upon linking the app to the base station, the setup process includes the use of a safe word. With a subscription, should the alarm trigger and the monitoring center reach out to you, they'll want that safe word to disable the alarm. This makes using your home's landline a viable telephone contact, as it makes it difficult for a burglar to provide this safe word to disable the system. Overall, a great choice if you don't mind some installation work yourself and have at least a basic set of technical skills. While fully functional as a disconnected, self-monitoring system, it doesn't truly shine unless connected and monitored. This is worth 5-stars.

An easy setup home alarm system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The SimpliSafe Indoor Safety Security kit is arguably the easiest alarm systems to install. This review focuses on the eight piece kit which is sold as a standard package. As a bonus, I will also add my thoughts on the SimpliSafe Indoor Smartcam as well. The Simplisafe Safety Security kit (8-piece version) comes with a base station, a control panel, four entry sensors, two motions sensors and some stickers and a sign and the usual QuickStart documentation. Setup is primarily easy. Download the SimpliSafe app from the app store (iOS or Android) and create an account then follow instructions on the app. The first thing to do is to setup the base base station by connecting it to wi-fi. Upon setup, the app can now allow you to add peripherals in any order. With this kit the peripherals include the control panel, entry-sensors, and motion sensors. While the app can pretty much do anything for the system, the control panel comes in handy as a physical control which can be accessed by any member of your household who does not have access to the app. Installation of the control panel is easy as it has 3M adhesives to install. No more screws. The same thing applies to others. But screws are also included. There are four entry sensors included and I have installed three sensors in the three doors of our house. I might as well install the last in a window. I have installed the two motion sensors in our dining room and living room. Once setup, the use of the system pretty much easy. There are generally three control buttons namely Off, Home, and Away. When the mode setting is set to Away, all sensors are activated including motion sensors. (Note the motion sensors can be set to pet mode to minimize alarms.) When in Home mode, the motion sensors are deactivated so as to minimize fans alarms. Off mode is pretty much obvious. A PIN is required for the control of the system for added security. SimpliSafe offers two plans. One is the free plan which only sets off the siren from the base which by the way emits 80db sound and a paid plan (99 cents/day) but that includes a professional staff who will coordinate with your local law enforcement officials in case of emergency. A free trial of one month is provided for you to try the service. There is no hard sell in this unlike other alarm companies. Unfortunately, the city that I live discourages alarm systems that integrate with law enforcements as there are many false alarms. As such I cannot even try the trial period for that service. As mentioned earlier, I will include the indoor smart camera. The indoor smart camera is basically self contained device. It has its own alarm, mic, motion sensor and power supply. But it can also integrate with the base station as well. Upon integration, the indoor smart camera works perfectly and the images are crystal clear which IMO are better than other systems. I also has motion sensing too. So this camera is situated in our receiving area. But do note that if you want storage, you have to subscribe to the plan. Overall, the system works as advertised but I do have some nitpicking to do. First I wish it has geocaching so that the alarm will activate when I’m gone. And I cannot find a way temporarily activate individual devices. But then again, this is nitpicking and should not be a dealbreaker. I highly recommend this system to everybody.
