Battery backup protects my Internet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The other day my Internet went down while we were away and I couldn't access my home security system from my Cellphone. When I arrived at home, I found that the battery backup I use to keep my cable modem, wi-fi and security system hardware running during a power outage failed after less than 3 years. Even though that unit was still in warranty, I couldn't find the documentation to verify proof of purchase. I decided to spend a bit more and purchase an APC replacement supply instead of the brand I purchased originally. The APC unit happened to be on sale, so it was only $10 more than an exact replacement, and it is providing me with 25% greater capacity. I've only had it a week now, but it's operating fine. The only issue I have with these supplies is that most of the equipment I need to plug in have oversize power supply boxes making it impossible to use every outlet. Fortunately, I was able to plug in my two wifi routers and cable modem without resorting to a secondary outlet strip, but I lost the use of one of the protected outlets. The security monitor that I would like to have available in case of an outage is plugged into the unprotected side. If the monitor goes down, I can still operate the system via my cell phone app, so the system is still operational. Not ideal, but I preferred that solution to the hassle of adding a second power strip.. I only gave the unit 4 stars because they had the room on the exterior to spread the outlets widely, but chose to group three outlets together and set only one to the side. Had they divided the outlet space equally across the front of the device and relocated the power switch, I might have been able to use all four protected outlets.

APC protects my electronics at a great price!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got a great deal on this backup power supply on sale for $50 instead of $75. Have used APC products for decades and trust the quality, features and price. Protecting my electronics from power surges, short (30 min or less) power outages and lightning strikes. Have one APC unit protecting my cable modem, wireless router, printer, fax and backup drive. Have a second APC unit protecting my DVR/Comcast cable box, main TV and sound bar. Caveats: 1) In your planning, remember that all 8 outlets on this APC unit offer surge protection but only 4 of the 8 outlets are providing battery backup. So prioritize what devices you want to stay working if the main power goes out for a short time. 2) If your device has a normal power cord it will plug in just fine to the APC unit, But the outlets on the APC unit are close together. So if your device has a power block or brick with prongs coming out, it will plug in to the APC unit but it will block the adjacent outlet and reduce the number of usable outlets. The solution is to purchase 3-prong extension cords which are 12 inches or less in total length. They plug into the APC unit and then into your device's power block. Electricians/wiring contractors sometimes refer to them as "pigtails". You can easily find them in the aisle where they sell typical extension cords at a variety of home products, hardware or department stores for only a few dollars each. It is not a high priced item. If the price is high then look somewhere else and you will find them cheaper.

Reliable and works as it should
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used APC battery backup units for over 20 years. This particular unit does what it is supposed to - keep electronic items going when the power dips or goes out. This unit has our phone answering machine, a 17" HP multimedia laptop and a halogen lamp connected to it. When we have had power outages, even very short ones, everything connected to it stays on. That is especially good for the answering machine which is a pain in the butt to reset! Also, as soon as I plugged the unit into the wall socket, the faulty wiring light came on. Our apartment was put together years ago using the "corner cutting - money saving" method, so our landlady has been informed of what needs to be done to get this place up to required local specs. Thank you APC! I have never had any problems with APC battery backup units and this one is no exception. Having replaceable batteries is also a key feature of these units as batteries do wear out over time. APC replacement batteries are easy to find - another plus.

Decent UPS for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Satisfied with the APC UPS. One annoyance is the frequent cycles to the back-up battery when one of my printers is turned on or comes out of sleep. Originally, I plugged in my printers on the "Surge only" side and this caused nuisance trips. After contacting APC, I was told the high power draw of the printers will cause the unit to momentarily go to battery power and that the printers should ideally be plugged into a different circuit altogether. I ended up plugging them into a separate power strip from the other wall outlet and, true to what they said, the nuisance trips continue. I changed the sensitivity to a medium setting but it continues. Reluctant to go to Low since that setting is designed for a "dirty" power supply. The nuisance trips are actually a good thing, I suppose, but it's still a bit of an annoyance. Overall, pleased with the purchase and the PowerChute monitoring software is pretty good.

Check Dates
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The one I bought in December 2016 was actually manufactured in early 2014 so the battery was already almost 3 years old. I had a problem with another one (same make and model number) that instead of beeping when the power went out would just start making a clicking sound. I contacted APC Tech support and I received excellent service from them. They don't have the BN600G in stock so there are shipping me two of the new BE650G1 models as warranty replacements. APC is one of the few companies that stands behind their products. Best Buy should also check their stock so they don't ship out old out of date merchandise.

UPS: An Investment In Security
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love UPS units. I personally think they are the best investment one can make for their expensive electronics. UPS units protect your PC in an outage so you can power down normally and also having your TV and cable box on a UPS allows you some precious time to keep the TV on in case of severe weather alerts and also the same with PC's. UPS units come in a variety of internal battery sizes and outlet configurations for longer life. The one caveat I have is the internal batteries of each unit I have purchased from APC last only as long as the warranty does and when it goes and you need to replace it in a pinch, I have found it nearly impossible to locate the internal batteries and they do not sell them at Best Buy, causing me to purchase an entire unit. In the end if you split the cost by the years of service you get from the unit it is still pretty cost effective to just replace everything every three years. This is one of those things you never think you need until you need it and if you don't already have one it is bad news. Hope this review helps!

Good backup
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everyone should have a battery backup and surge protection for their computers. It is essential for me as I use my computer for work, and where I live, we have frequent power outages. It is a must for me so I can make sure I get my work backed up and then properly shut down. If I didn't, it could result in a loss of work when the power flickers or goes out completely. I have had that happen and it is not fun having to redo several pages of work. This is my second backup that I have bought. I have several things that I like to keep plugged into the battery backup and one was just not enough. And it is great with 3-year warrenty.

Q: QuestionCompatibilityIs this unit has compatibility with iMac? Please let me know. Thanks
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer With a quick look at the I Mac specs, it appears that this will provide reasonable support for just the computer and monitor. It has a capacity of about 360 watts, (I Mac G5 = 180W) which should be adequate. The I Mac shows a frequency range of 47 to 63 Hertz, so the stepped wave form should not be too damaging. The UPS is an off line unit so "normal" operation does not use the inverter. That being said, there may be issues with the transition from utility to UPS power according to the ability of the I Mac to withstand a sub-second wave form disruption. This is a simple, inexpensive UPS. If you use the I Mac for serious use you may want an online, double conversion, sine wave unit, which is much more expensive. Home use is probably OK.

Q: QuestionMy telephone & security system is attached to TWC's modem, TG1672G. Will the APC 600VA system backup the phone/security function during a blackout?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer It depends on the power consumption of your equipment, the capacity of the UPS and the duration of the power failure. First, add up the wattage ratings of all the devices you want to connect to the UPS. Next look at the specifications of various UPS's and select one that can deliver that much (or more) power for a period equal to the longest blackout you anticipate. Example: if you need 50 watts, a UPS that can deliver 100 watts for 60 minutes will provide 50 watts for about 120 minutes. However, I recommend buying the highest VA rating you can afford. The higher capacity UPS's are better built, have better surge suppressors, often have replaceable batteries, and they run proportionately longer. Reserve capacity is always desirable.

Q: QuestionPowerChute Management Software ?How does the Included "PowerChute Management Software" work on this APC - Back-UPS 600VA -Black
Asked by DJ.
- A:Answer When plugged into your PC via the USB cable, when the software detects that there is less than a certain percentage of battery remaining, it will shut down your computer for you

Q: QuestionWhat do you do when the red light is flashing on the unit?It is an APC brand.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer That indicates that the battery needs replaced. If it is under the manufactures warranty contact APC to get the battery replaced (Don't bring it into best buy, they have no way of honoring the manufacture warranty and no obligation to). If it is not under warranty you can purchase a new battery from APC but you likely will spend more then purchasing a new one.
