You left out one thing, you need a smart tv as well, or at least a devise such as amazon firestick plugged into the tv to make it "smart. " Need internet service at the location you are sending from as well as where you are sending to. You cannot watch different stations at each location unless you have multiple cable boxes and "dedicate" one to slinging. The firestick gives minimal control and I got poor picture quality, but I have slow internet at both locations. I bought a Roku TV and it worked a ton better. You can google slingbox website to get a list of devises that work with slingbox. THE CURRENTLY AVAILABE RETAIL ROKUs DO NOT WORK!!!! You would have to get a refurbished older one. The set-up process can be tedious, need to download Roku ap and slingbox for phone for free app(NOT SLING TV APP!!!!) I tried to upload the instructions I give my guests here but the website would not accept the documents. Sorry!

A:AnswerI believe sling tv...uses roku or chromecast to cast onto ur tv...the research I've done this is 9.99 or so a month...but with the sling box u don't pay each month...the apps that I downloaded from the setup are free with the hardware.. I used the slingbox cast onto my tv though chromecast and the android app on my phone. I have a smart tv..but had to use the chromcast.com or mirroring option..there seems to be a problem with age of my. tv...in theory I think it should work if you can download the sling box app onto your smart tv. great pur base. ..especially snowbirds travelling who would like to keep up with your own news and weather or shows from home.

If you change the channel on the TV your slingbox is sending a signal to, then you will also be changing the channel on the TV that slingbox is hooked up to in your house.

A:AnswerOther than a Roku TV, most of the Smart TV's I've seen don't have the Slingplayer app available. You need it to use it to run the Slingbox. However, you can hook a Roku, Firestick, etc to the TV to watch a Slingbox located at another location. You can cast to some Smart TVs using SlingPlayer app on your mobile device. You can't use a SmartTV as a source for the Slingbox because most (if any) don't have video outputs.

You have to get used to the response command time. At first we didn't think that our commands were going through.
It takes a few seconds to transmit the commands. If you become impatient and press the command again every command is memorized and keeps repeating.
It took us awhile to figure this out so exercise patience. It is worth it,especially for me to be able to watch my football teams game instead of the local broadcast.

That said, the Firestick software is kinda flaky. It works, but it's very slow to move through the guide to change channels.
