  • It obviously doesn't perform as well in low light as the G master 70-200, but the sony a7 series cameras perform so well in low light it's not a make or break for me.Aaron

I've been the owner of the top gear both Canon and Nikon have offered, along with their top L and Nikkor lenses. I will admit after shelling out for a A7RII recently I swallowed hard to get one of these, but was almost certain it would maximize the results I wanted at the longer end. I was right. This lens is built along the lines of the top larger "L" series lenses Canon is so prized for. This however on a A7RII for example is instant to focus and extremely accurate to say the least. The OSS works wonders at least 4 stops or more. The BEST part of it all is if you are using the A7RII you will get essentially a 400mm lens equivalent when cropping. So it's smaller, lighter but built to those high standards one would be accustomed to with L or Nikkor top lenses, but without the weight or size penalty. Even wide open at f4 it is sharp enough to need no sharpening. I can't say enough wonderful things about this lens. Sure it's a bit pricey but it most certainly DOES deliver the image quality.

I did a lot of research on this lens before purchasing and I was honestly on the fence as to whether to buy this one or the G master 2.8. I knew I would be using it indoors about 40% of the time so the low f stop of the G master would have been very useful, but I couldn't see spending right at $1100 more. Turns out I made a good choice! I am very impressed with the sharpness and color with this lens as well as the bokeh. It obviously doesn't perform as well in low light as the G master 70-200, but the sony a7 series cameras perform so well in low light it's not a make or break for me. This lens is incredible for nature and portrait photography and the quality of the image is beautiful

Thoroughly checked out the reviews of this lens before I laid down to dollars for it, given that it comes with a hefty price tag. I was definitely not disappointed by the quality. I used it at an air show (fast moving distant objects) and also for close up shots of flowers. Finally used it at a gathering of people and the quality is outstanding. From tack sharp images to beautiful bokeh, it's well worth the investment if you want to take your photography to the next level.

Purchased the Sony F4 telephoto to replace an old Nikon AI manual zoom lens which I adapted for use on a A7R2 camera. The lens has increased the number of keepers that I get due to lens stabilization and auto focus. The F4 speed is also not a limitation because the lens is primarily used for outdoor work where exposures are between F5.6 and F8. For extra reach, I often use the APS-C crop factor of 1.5 to extend the far range of the lens from 200 to 300mm (1.5x200), which is a nice feature for nature shots that I would have ordinarily cropped. All in all, I find the lens to be very good for my needs.

I use a Sony a7ii and Sony nex6. I took this lens out with me to shoot the strawberry moon in San Francisco and although the shots were decent at 200mm they were soft. If I throw my canon 135 L lens on it produces super sharp and great color photos. Don't get me wrong this is a good lens for all around shooting but if you are working it at 200mm most of the time you are better off saving your money because this costs double what you can get the similar canon f4 lens or if you want more zoom go with the 150-600 tamron for Sony with the adapter. I couldn't justify the price of this lens compared to the quality it provided.

I upgraded from my Nex7 to the Sony a7 this year. I needed a lens matched to the full frame a7. I used an 18-200 for a while, but it did not capture the full frame photo. When I became aware of this new 70-200, I looked at all the reviews and decided to give it a try. I immediately noticed that it was perfectly matched to the camera, was quick and responsive and my photo quality improved immediately. I will still watch for a 300 mm lens, but I am really happy with this lens.

the build quality is just way above what I have expected. the price just may not be the best but just holding it makes me impressed. even though most of the time I don't need to zoom that much I want to carry this thing around because it feels great and looks great and functions great. plus it makes me look like a professional. the zoom is just right for those locations that you would need to get in real tight. optical steady shot is very helpful for those zoomed in views. im not sure why its white vs black like all the other sony lenses in the alpha series but oohhh well. you should have this in your bag.

Amazing glass from the Sony G line. Definitely a lens to always have in your arsenal with the new A7 mirrorless lineup from Sony. Super tack sharp image quality and amazing color rendition. The optical steady shot works like a charm to keep your focus still and fast. With an aperture of f/4 all the way through you can't go wrong with this lens. Also even though it looks like it weighs a lot for being a big scary white style zoom lens like the Canon L series, it's actually really light and doesn't way you down. A perfect fit for the Sony A7 series.

Some may wish it had been f2.8 instead, but such lenses are much heavier and more expensive, and often don't perform as well as their f4 counterparts. I believe Sony's kept the apertures modest on its first batch of full-frame mirrorless lensesFull Review
