A:AnswerI had the same issues several times. The short answer is: this unit is a piece of crap. Do like I did and throw it in the garbage and buy a model a couple steps up. This was the first time I had purchased the entry-level unit from APC and I should have known better. My last higher-end units lasted for years with zero issues. This was nothing but trouble. APC should be ashamed of themselves for producing such an inferior product.
A:AnswerNone. This is stand alone. I would purchase one that can shut devices like a PC down safely without user intervention. APC offers some with USB and downloadable software to accomplish.

To cut power to the surge only outlets you would need to disconnect the UPS's power plug from the wall. Unfortunately the option to turn them off would not be programmable on this unit either. it beeps for 10 seconds and no charge. you would think surge and some form of protection but instead it just killed my 200.00 router once power came back.

The 4 battery-backed outlets are spaced apart to accommodate "wall wart" or transformer-type plugs, at least those that are not really large.
The 2 non-battery-backed outlets are close together, so they will accommodate only plain (non-transformer) plugs.
