Had a little trouble connecting for the first day. I would have internet for five minutes then it would drop out while I was still fully connected to my router; I just didn’t have internet. I probably had to reboot it ten times the first day to get anything out of it. Time seemed to heal this as by the next day it didn’t have any issues, kept a steady connection and has been flawless for 4 months. The modem is far faster than the internet that I pay for and the router I use, so it’s hard for me to say what it’s limits are as I’ll never reach them. In that respect, should be good for future proofing. The last good thing I’ll mention is the status lights are visible on the front but very small. This is awesome as some companies install night lights on these things that are all far too bright when the router is placed on an entertainment stand. I used to have to place tape over the lights on my last one to not have the lights strobing in my living room. I wish more products had lights like this. Only downside is the feet are not removable and the product must stand vertical. This cannot be set down flat.

    Awesome Modem!

I received the NETGEAR DOCSIS 3.0 High Speed Cable Modem (CM500-100NAS) from Netgear for free as part of a test and review program. I used the modem to replace my older modem which wasn’t able to handle the new speed of my internet upgrade, and I am very pleased with the results. My ISP recently upgraded our system and now supports 75MB down. The setup was relatively easy with the only issue coming from the ISP resetting the signal. They had to do this a few times in order to recognize the modem but once the signal was established, the setup was a breeze. All I had to do was hook up the cable connection, the power cable and attach the Ethernet connection to the device to get it up and running. After the modem was setup, I connected it to our Netgear router and we were up and running with high speed internet throughout the house. I am now able to receive the 75 Mbps easily. The modem is compact and sits up vertically which saves space. It is connected to my Netgear router to provide internet access to the Ethernet connections throughout the house as well as a wireless signal. It is able to provide high speed internet access to any device that I attach to the router (which is connected to the modem). It is able to support up to 680 Mbps so I can upgrade my speed even more, when the time comes. I’ve let it run now for about a week and it is running perfectly with no issues. This modem saves me on my monthly modem rental fee from my ISP. I would highly recommend this modem to anyone looking to upgrade to a higher speed.

Works great with Time Warner 200 or 300 Mbps

I purchased this to replace an existing modem that I had, which due to channel bonding, was not capable of achieving speeds higher than 100 Mbps on Time Warner's service. This modem's channel bonding is 16x4, allowing it to achieve the full 300 Mbps service (perhaps higher, if/when they offer it). It's also cheaper than the Motorola SB6183, the only other modem I am currently aware of that can support the 200 Mbps and 300 Mbps tiers. The modem was extremely easy to activate. I simply unplugged my old one, hooked this up to the coax cable, and connected an ethernet cable to my computer. Within a minute or two I was able to launch a browser and visit www.activatemymodem.com which was simple and painless. The modem started working right away and at that point I disconnected the computer and connected my wireless router, completing my network setup. The modem generally tests above the maximum bandwidth of my plan. I have the 200 Mbps plan with Time Warner and I have tested as high as 225 Mbps down and 23.5 Mbps up. It has been powered on and rock-solid since I connected it one month ago. The LEDs to indicate status are visible but not obnoxiously bright. I highly recommend this modem!

Now I can advantage of the speed I'm paying for

So far so good. My internet speed was just upgrade in my area so I looked into upgrading my equipment to take advantage of the speeds. I refuse to pay my ISP to rent the modem especially if you have phone service through them that is over IP, they will let you use the same modem for free. But I digress. Anyhow, my previous equipment was a Surfboard 6121 and Linksys EA2500. I figured upgrading my router would be sufficient so I when with the Nighthawk C7000. In addition to being a better overall and feature packed router, it increased my speeds by a lot. But the surfboard was still limiting my speeds. So I went with this modem and I gotta tell you, my speed went through the roof with this. Doing a speedtest before and after the modem showed a drastic difference. Surfboard + Nighthawk was giving me consistently 120 mbps all around my house. Netgear modem + Nighthawk is giving me 330 mbps. Modem is lightweight, lights aren't too bright on the front panel and it does what it says. I'll see to the longevity and update my review accordingly, but for now, works perfect.

I am a Time Warner Cable/Spectrum customer. The basic internet package speeds were recently doubled to 200 mbps in my area. I was consistently receiving only 100 mbps, and in talking to TWC/Spectrum I discovered that my older modem was not capable of faster speeds. I read Wirecutter reviews of the best cable modems, found this as their top-rated model, and purchased it. I did have to call TWC/Spectrum to finish setup (the online registration did not complete on its own) but after that my internet was up and running at 200 mbps. Since installation a few weeks ago I haven't had any disconnects or issues. Service and speeds appear consistent. The modem itself only stands vertically, which required a little repositioning on my part, but it is compact and cleanly designed. Best part: the modem lights are dim and virtually unnoticeable from a distance. Overall great purchase!

Great modem to replace Comcast leased modem

I had been looking to replace my Comcast leased modem and researched several DOCSIS 3.0 modems. I was focused on performance and reliability. I narrowed my search down to the Netgear CM500-100NAS and the Motorola Arris SURFboard 600 Series DOCSIS 3.0, Model SB6183. The performance specs were similar, although the Motorola had a slightly longer warranty. But the Motorola was also $30 more than the Netgear. I've owned products from both companies before and found both were well made and performed well. I opted to keep a few bucks in my pocket and went with the Netgear. Set-up was a breeze. The only negative (and why I gave it four stars instead of five) is that the lights are relatively small and can't be seen from a variety of angles. Not a big deal, but when my internet goes down, I typically glace at the modem to eyeball the status. Now I have to move to the modem to check its status if I'm working from my laptop in another room. This is only a minor issue as far as I'm concerned. But so far, great product and reliable performance. Recommended.

Given all the positive reviews, I suppose im probably an exception. My xfinity/comcast modem died so I figure I'd just get this as a replacement. Set up is easy - basically plug in everything as normal and give you isp a call to configure it remotely and I liked it because despite being a simple modem with no bells or whistles, it was 1/4 the size of the one from my cable company. Took the rep an extra try or 2 but it was set within 15 minutes. It worked great for about 1 1/2 weeks and then the connection went out and the "download" light is red and as I pick it up to power cycle, it was very hot to the touch. I let it cool off and about 8 hours later the same thing occured (it was downloading/uploading a fair amount but this was the first time I had issue with a netgear product and the first in general with overheating. It's happened once a day for the next 4 days since, and then twice today. If I exchange for another of the same modem then I'll update my score

I have my old modem for a long long time and the speed has not been great. I recently upgraded to a new router and the speed is faster now. After doing some digging, I found out that I have an old DOCSIS 2.0 modem which limits the speed I can get from Comcast. The setup for the Netgear CM500 modem is easy. Just plug it in and follow the instruction on the Xfinity web interface to activate. The whole process is painless and take less than 15 minutes for the modem to be up an running. This modem works great with Xfinity. After the setup, I test the speed immediately to see if it is much faster. With my old modem, I get about 20MBps. With the CM500, I am getting close to 50MBps consistently. This is insanely fast. In my household, I have 4 computers, 3 Ipads, and a few iPhones. Many times, I will be downloading stuffs, streaming video online, surfing the web by multiple people. The performance is much more consistently with this new modem even with multiple heavy use connection. Overall, I am very happy with the reliable performance and increase in speed for this modem.
